I'm looking for a script to paste an object (paste in place) on top of all other layers in a file. Â I know I can position a single object on the top layer and then turn the bottom layers on and off, but for my needs (and in this situation) I need to actually paste that object onto each layer.
I am having trouble with the Paste in Front/Back function. I will copy my selected layers and then want to paste them in place on the selected artboard next to it and often times it pastes it back on the artboard where it copies from. Sometimes the function does what I want, but often times it pastes in a different location, either on the same artboard, or next to the artboard where I want it pasted. It also tends to slightly move the X and Y values (again, sometimes). Each time I go to paste, I am creating a new layer and selecting the artboard where I want everything pasted, but sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. I am using CS5 on MacBook Pro.
I recently created a script that reads the layer names of an Illustrator file, and uses the name to identify a swatch to use to pattern all elements on that specified layer. The script works well, and is a real time saver for our mapping staff, but it requires duplicate swatches to exist, where the only difference is their colour.
To improve the script I want to duplicate a swatch and modify its' colour before applying it to a specific layer. I think the only way this can be done is via the "placedItems" command. So the code I'm trying to write looks likke this:  for(var s=0; s<slib.length; s++){                               // search swatch library    var pat=slib[s].name;                                            // get swatch name
[Code]... Â However I'm struggling to find the correct syntax to make this work.
I have been working on a script to place a psd file onto only one visible layer (document has multiple hidden layers). This java code has worked so far: Â var doc = app.activeDocument; var onFile = File("C:/Users/Desktop/Desktop/ExportedArtboard-01.psd"); var mydoc = doc.placedItems.add(); mydoc.file = onFile; mydoc.embed(); Â however this works with only the top layer visible (eye turned on in Ai). if top most layer isn't visible i get "target layer cannot be modified" error.
For instance say i have 1,2,3 layers. layer 1 (top most) and 3 (bottom most) would be hidden, layer 2 (middle layer) would be visible and then running the script would place the psd file on to layer 2.
I've been doing PS for 10 years, it's time I learn how to do this... Paste in place? Anybody know how to do it? I'm running PS 7.0 on Windows XP. I make a selection, ctrl+x (cut), ctrl-v (paste) and it always pastes it somewhere other than where I cut it from.
I have attach one drawing if you open and copy this from one place to place then dimension is automatically increases. can i know how this increase or what type of this dimension it is.
I've been using the Creative Suite since CS4,I'm building a psd file with vectors from an ai file. I recall that in CS5 and CS5.5 I had no issue copying a vector from Illustrator and then using "paste in place" to land it in the same relative spot on the Photoshop canvas. Today, my world has crumbled! Try as I might, I cannot get my vector shapes to "paste in place". Â I am using Windows 7, service pack 1, and CS6 64 bit edition. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were entirely up to date as of today, I have already tried dumping the preference file, to no avail. Â it seems that Illustrator's clipboard has been handling data differently somehow, and I'm pondering whether this might be the culprit of my issue. However, copying and pasting in place within Illustrator seems to work fine, problems only arise when I copy from Illustrator into Photoshop.
The old "paste in place" function seems to be missing in CS2 (gosh i miss Shop 7 sometimes).. any idea of workarounds that aren't more than 2 steps?
moreover: I have a selection, want to cut out or copy and place in the exact same place (either in same layer or new). Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. I can't tell why it works only some of the time.
I am using Photoshop cs6. I purchased a template for magazine advertising purposes. The images have been taken out but there are custom designed objects (masked shapes) where I am supposed to place my images. When I attempt to place a photo into one of the shapes, using the Place Command, it does not work.Â
If I copy something from one later and paste it onto another layer, it puts it dead centre and then I have to move it to align it with where it was. This is a bit of a hassle. Is there a way to copy from one level and then paste that item to the exact same place on another level?
I am using Photoshop CS6. I have a question about Photoshop command Place.(File- Place) . Here are some pictures below. It shows the problem.
I opened the PSD file that has a green circle(picture 1) and using Place command to import other PSD file that has a red circle(picture2). Those 2 PSD files are same size, same canvas size, 1024x1024. So it should place the red circle precisely on the green circle, but as you can see, if I import the red circle PSD into Green circle PSD, Place command won't place the red circle pensively on the green circle. There is a gap between those 2 circles.(Picture3) It's really frustrating, because I have to move the red circle layer manually to place it just onto the green circle. Â This command "Place" isn't reliable, so usually I don't use this command, and use Duplicate layer or group to import contents of other PSD, but if Place command can import other PSD file without this gap problem, I will use it because it's much faster than duplicating.
Do you know why and how to place those 2 files without the gap? Is it a glitch? I should not use Place command to import other PSD file?Â
This is in regards to the LIP command in Toolpac. The layer properties for a selected nested object (LIP) used to default to nested. Now you have to select nested from the list of options. Why they would change LIP. My whole company had gotten so used to it.
I want to create a routine that will place selected objects on a the corresponding demo layer. Â Here is the outline:
enter command select object extract layer name of object (i.e. "CS CURB") if demo layer exists  (i.e. "CS CURB CD") >put object on demo layer >else create demo layer, and place object on layer
I could select multiple objects on different layers.is this possible with lisp? any good starting point for lisp programing?
I've been using Illustrator CC from the cloud on Mac OS 10.6.8 fine for months and today after Placing some jpegs into my document it's stopped letting me place anything! I can't even re-link the images that are already there. I've also tried to make a new document.
All of a sudden I cannot place a PSD file into Adobe illustrator? When I drag it in nothing happens. If I use the menu and try to place one nothing happens. If I open up an old file that use to work fine the images now don't appear and just show X'd boxes in keyline view as if the linkage is broken but it's not?
Recently updated to CS6 but one thing very frustrating is that File>Place does not work. When I select it a window will pop up, but as soon as I select any image from the window the entire Illustrator application stops working. Â I was forced to switch back to CS5.
I try to place a jpg or psd graphic inside a normal Illustrator document. Illustrator tells me the graph has no color profile (what is not correct - it has) but whatever option I choose nothing happens - no graphic is placed, I get no cursor to place the graphic. Or Illustrator just crashes. This used to work just fine in earlier version... I use CS6 cloud version.
I need a way for Photoshop to place an object like Illustrator does. Sure, Smart Objects are nice but I need a method where I have a PS file and 1 or more layers in it are referenced. When these references are updated the PS file should update automatically (yes, I will have to have the file open and save ...). Illustrator does this ... page layout apps do this. I need for PS to do this or find a work method that will help do this. Any thoughts? The specific details:We have several hundred images of our app's interface. The images are composites of generic interface and language-specific interface. To make things easier when updating or translating docs we snag the local parts of the interface. We would then place and align the separate images in FrameMaker. We're moving to a new tool and output and we need to put all of the images together in a single image file but want to retain the ability to only update the localized sections. Smart Objects are not smart when trying to do this as they require you to either (essentially) re-import the object (using Replace) or edit the object from the composite image. This obviates the ability to simply replace the target image and have the composite update. So ...
I have been using CS5 Illustrator for over a year now and have had no problems until yesterday when I opened illustrator and was unable to place any images. Â I can click on 'place' and go find the file, it appears to go through the right process then there is no image on the artboard at all, anywhere. Then I decided to open up previously made files that contain placed images and all they have is a bounding box with no image. The Links panel recognises the name of the file but no image is visable, even as a thumbnail.
I imported a jpg picture of a man's face. It is bigger than the A4 page. I like that since there are parts of the original image I don't want. I want to make his lips move.  When I use the Selection Tool, the whole jpeg moves. If I move the image off page, then the selection tool makes a little box when I hold down the left mouse button, but that box goes away when I release the mouse button.  When I use the Pen Tool, I get to trace his lower lip and then a little box forms around that, but then the copy command just copies the outline, not the section of the imported image that was under it.  The cut command removes the trace. I have tried a lot of other things, but obviously I'm clueless since nothing works.
I attempted to place text on a path. I drew an oval, selected text on a path tool. The text start is at the very top and wraps around the path clockwise. I try to select the path 'handle' but I cannot.Â
I was able to do this once but I need to add more images and it won't let me. I've tried saving the JPEG images on my desktop. I've tried saving my document on my desktop. I've done the update.
Carlos, you created a script i believe called AI_openMultiPagePDF.However i was wondering if you could change it just a bit and instead of opening the files, could you use the PLACE command instead? Â The problem i have had is that some PDF's have embedde fonts that i dont have but if i place it, then flatten transparency>Convert Outlines i can use the PDF excatly as it was and not have it convert the fonts. Â Is that an easy script change? Â #target illustrator #targetengine session // script.name = AI_openMultiPagePDF_CS4_CS5_v1.02.jsx; // script.description = opens a multipage PDF; // script.required = requires CS4 or later // script.parent = CarlosCanto // 01/07/12;Â v1.2-01/15/12 // script.elegant = false; Â I didn't try opening a ridiculous amount of pages, I "only" open 35 pages....in about a minute and a half. Use with caution, save everything before running, script is memory intensive... Â // Lion fix by John Hawkinson 01/15/12 START UI CODE, create user interface var win = new Window ("dialog", "MTools - Open Multipage PDF"); Â [code]....
If I want to place an object in illustrator cs6 on a specific place (for example rectangle, left above corner on X=14mm) and I fill this value in the transform field and I tap the enter button, illustrator places the object on X=14,033.
Why does illustrator do this and how can I avoid that illustrator adjusts my specific X / Y values?
When I go to place an image in Illustrator 5.5 the application quits. Do I have to reinstall the application? I haven't changed any preferences recently.
