All of a sudden I cannot place a PSD file into Adobe illustrator? When I drag it in nothing happens. If I use the menu and try to place one nothing happens. If I open up an old file that use to work fine the images now don't appear and just show X'd boxes in keyline view as if the linkage is broken but it's not?

Until about four days ago when I made edits to the the source TOC the articles would signal that an update was available. They no longer do this. And Yes the link to the text shows up in the links panel. The source file name has not changed and the location is the same.

I've been using CS5 for a few months and have been able to import Freehand 10 files without any problems. About a week ago, I tried importing a Freehand file, and it won't open in Illustrator. I still get the "Freehand Import Options" pop up window, can still click the OK button, but nothing happens. I've tried re-installing Illustrator, but it hasn't changed anything with the issue.Â

i have illustrator cs6. i can no longer increase size of object. i do not get a box when selecting object with pointer to stretch and when using the object/scale i get a reading that it would make the object too large
View 3 Replies View RelatedI signed up for Adobe Creative Cloud, so that I could evaluate the latest version of Illustrator and Photoshop. I downloaded and installed Illustrator, however my computer crawled after the install. So I had to do a System Restore back to before the download and install of Illustrator.

After the System Restore, I again downloaded and installed Illustrator. The program showed up in the programs menu. I then downloaded and installed Photoshop and Dreamweaver. But after that, two separate versions of Photoshop show up - regular and 64 bit (I only downloaded and installed one version of Photoshop), and Dreamweaver. Illustrator no longer shows up in the Windows 7 Programs menu. How is this possible???

I looked in C:Program Files, and a 342MB Illustrator CC file is there. But I cannot find a .exe file in that file, and so cannot start Illustrator.

Worse still, when I try to download and install Illustrator once again, Adobe Creative Cloud shows me as having downloaded and installed it already, and that it is working perfectly - which is of course, NOT TRUE! Creative Cloud will accordingly not allow me to download and install Illustrator again! So while Creative Cloud thinks I have a worling version of Illustrator CC to try out and evaluate, I in fact do not!
What happened, and why the version installed in Program Files folder is not showing up i the Programs Menus of Windows 7, and or what I can do to get Illustrator to start up.
Previously when editing a group in isolation mode you could double-click a group and then the individual objects in that group become editable. Now in CS6 a group remains grouped in isolation mode, so to edit individual objects the group needs to be manually ungrouped while in isolation mode, then you have to remember to group them again before exiting isolation. This is a very un-useful new development. CS6, Windows 7 x64.

As I recall, you used to be able to change the artboard size when you first hit shift + O. There was a window for it at the top of the screen. Now,..for some reason that option is not there. It only gives me the ability to change the x and y coordinates. I have to double click the artboard tool to change the size of the artboard(s). How do I get back that ability?
My coworkers and myself have recently updated to Illustrator CS6, but one glaring issue we are currently dealing with is the loss of this feature. Manually invoking the 'merge swatches' command from the swatch panel options does still work, but when trying to assign this function into an action, the action simply does not work. This was possible in CS4 (not sure about CS5), so I am left to conclude that this may be a bug in the software?

I have also tried to utilize the javascript and applescript API, but short of re-writing the entire function from scratch, this functionality does not seem to be implemented natively through either.. One thought I did have was to replace one swatch's color information with another selected swatch's information, but this seemed only to update the swatch it'self and not the artboard as well.

I try to use it to duplicate an empty circle with a coloured path while scaling it down (with the intention of using Ctrl D to continue the progression). The shortcut simple resizes the path without duplicating it.
I recently upgraded to Illustrator CS6, and suddenly clients have been remarking that the file sizes are wrong or there's "a ton of white space around the logo." I checked it out, and sure enough, it appears that whenever I export a file, it does not crop it to the image boundary like it used to, even if I had manually adjusted the artboard to fit closely around it. After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that I have to click "Use Artboards" on the Export dialog each time. The super annoying part is that it doesn't STAY checked, AND it adds a number to the end of the file name. So I often forget to check it (not used to the extra step in workflow), and if I make a modification to the file, I can't just export over the previous version. It requires me to export it, go find it in finder, and manually delete the extra number off the file name. The extra steps are adding way too much time when I'm saving out many files. I'm about ready to go back to my previous version just from this alone. Â

I was forced to switch back to CS5.
I try to place a jpg or psd graphic inside a normal Illustrator document. Illustrator tells me the graph has no color profile (what is not correct - it has) but whatever option I choose nothing happens - no graphic is placed, I get no cursor to place the graphic. Or Illustrator just crashes. This used to work just fine in earlier version... I use CS6 cloud version.

Sure, Smart Objects are nice but I need a method where I have a PS file and 1 or more layers in it are referenced. I can click on 'place' and go find the file, it appears to go through the right process then there is no image on the artboard at all, anywhere. Then I decided to open up previously made files that contain placed images and all they have is a bounding box with no image. The Links panel recognises the name of the file but no image is visable, even as a thumbnail.
I imported a jpg picture of a man's face. It is bigger than the A4 page. I like that since there are parts of the original image I don't want. I want to make his lips move.

When I use the Selection Tool, the whole jpeg moves. If I move the image off page, then the selection tool makes a little box when I hold down the left mouse button, but that box goes away when I release the mouse button.

When I use the Pen Tool, I get to trace his lower lip and then a little box forms around that, but then the copy command just copies the outline, not the section of the imported image that was under it.

The cut command removes the trace. I have tried a lot of other things, but obviously I'm clueless since nothing works.
I attempted to place text on a path. I drew an oval, selected text on a path tool. The text start is at the very top and wraps around the path clockwise. I try to select the path 'handle' but I cannot.Â

The problem i have had is that some PDF's have embedde fonts that i dont have but if i place it, then flatten transparency>Convert Outlines i can use the PDF excatly as it was and not have it convert the fonts.

I didn't try opening a ridiculous amount of pages, I "only" open 35 pages....in about a minute and a half. Use with caution, save everything before running, script is memory intensive...

If I want to place an object in illustrator cs6 on a specific place (for example rectangle, left above corner on X=14mm) and I fill this value in the transform field and I tap the enter button, illustrator places the object on X=14,033.
Why does illustrator do this and how can I avoid that illustrator adjusts my specific X / Y values?
When I go to place an image in Illustrator 5.5 the application quits. Do I have to reinstall the application? I haven't changed any preferences recently.

I then tried to open them in Illustrator to finish up the project, but when I tried to place the images a box pops up that says "unknown error has occured" and when I try and open the images, all you can see is a blank artboard.
