Illustrator :: Any Way To Incrementally Scale Series Of Objects?
Aug 7, 2012
I have a series of triangles along a curved path in Illustrator CS6 (mac, if that makes a difference). I want to make the triangles large as the approach the middle of the path, and smaller towards the ends. The triangles' lower-most corner must remain locked to the path. I've tried pattern brushes, but not only do they distort the triangles, but there's also no way to scale the triangles reliably (to my knowledge).
I have a long, serpentine, 3D solid that also changes elevation. It's "S" shaped from the top and "U" shaped from the side. I need to place objects perpendicular to one surface and at a specific increment. The 3D Solid is about 3000 feet long and I need to put the perpendicular objects (3D solid or a block) at 4' increments (this is the linear dimension and not an aligned dimension) and they must always follow the orientation of the long solid. Imagine a railroad track twisting and turning as it goes through a valley and trying to put a post, aligned to the bottom of the track, every 4’ as seen from the top.
I would like to animate a serie of objects I made with the blend tool in Illustrator. It is an object that transforms into another one, I am trying to put this into a small animation like a gif.
I have also Photshop but I know better Illustrator, so I tried to export each of these objects in separate jpg files but couldnt find a way.
How does one remedy this Adobe error message? "Can't scale the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects too small to use." This one always gets me. I'll spend more time trying to find the object in question. This has happened in almost al versions, but this time it's CS5.
you know if it's possible to scale a image in differente sizes automatic. f.e. I have a image 1200x2000 an I would like to get 3 new images like 800x1000, 500x700 and 350x500 AUTOMATIC and without programming. It would be possibe with photoshop?
I just installed CS6. I have found a resizing problem that seems to exist relating to both objecgts and type.
For example, I was changing the leading in some text. I typed in 11.8 and the next thing I know the leading is set as 2 pts. I have changed other thiings within the text window and had the type rescale its width. It is a bit like "whack-a-mole" in that you fix one thing and it resets something else.
When I have typed in numbers to proportionately resize an object, the next thing I know, the computer makes it much smaller. If I hit command-Z to try to get back to where I started, it resizes it in even increments (like .125" or something).
Is this some kind of maddening helper function (like the spelling correction in mail program) that can be turned off?
Scale Stroke and Effects Option Odd Behaviours. If multiple objects selected and they're scaled in only one dimension, Illustrator assumes this to be a scale in 2 dimensions.
I have multiple icons placed in a document, from several different sources (all are vector objects) -- see the included image. They vary in size and what I would like to do is find a less onerous method of resizing all the heights to a specific size, while scaling the width proportionately. I have found several scripts that come close to a solution (see links below), but none that allow me to input a height (or width) in inches and have all the objects resize to that height proportionately.
Change Width to the Width of the narrowest object --> Script01 Change Height to the Height of the shortest object --> Script02 Change Multiple Attributes (JohnWundes) --> Script03
icon image (couldn't place via Adobe Forum) --> click
I have lost the ability to free scale objects/text boxes etc. in Illustrator CS5. I have to use the scale tool every time I need to adjust the size of something and it is not a sustainable technique in terms of time/productivity/function.
Hard to explain this one, but I want to make a series of lines that run horizontally, but as they descend downwards, the spacing between them gets thinner.
I have been working on a series of drawings for a catalogue. I am using solidworks, creating a sheet, all line thicknesses are changed to 0.05mm and then exporting the sheet as .AI. Every drawing I create is saved using identical settings.Out of say 10 only 3 of them are okay and can be edited as vectors. The rest seem to turn themselves into a series of images.
Is there any way of setting up an automated process/es? What I want to try to achieve is to move a layer incrementally along an axis,by say a few pixels at a time, whilst saving the frame generated,up to say 20 frames or more ?
I'm using a Javascript that will export as JPG a series of images from an AI file (that part is working fine), then rename them (that part isn't working). Writing and troubleshooting with Extendscript.
Trying to eliminate as many possible places to go wrong, I came up with the following:
myfile = new File; myfile = myfile.openDlg(); var newName = "NEW.ai"; myfile.rename(newName);
When run targeting Illustrator, it does nothing.
When run targeting ExtendScript, for some reason this blasts the file into oblivion, never to be found again.
Just draw a rectangle and a circle, then give them different colors. Choose AI menu "Object | Blend | Make", before this step you could set "Specified steps" to an integer in "Blend Options...", now you get a series of blended arts. Using Direct Select Tool you can select the rectangle or circle you drawed at first.
how to know if the art object you selected is one part of the blended series? I looked into the document but cannot find a proper API to get the infomation in AIArtSuite.

My question is, how to write code to know if the art object you selected is one part of the blended series? I looked into the document but cannot find a proper API to get the infomation in AIArtSuite. (for CS5 & CS6)
I have a series of very basic closed paths, doodles which intersect on another. I'd like to remove part of the intersection so that it'll appear that there's a whole devided into doodles, with no double lines. I know it might be simple but I can try here until the end of time...
I wanted to use annotation scale objects long time ago, but I was scared…why? In the office no one knows what annotative objects are.
I already start to imagine the "curses" I'll get when they open my drawings in their computers and see that the dimensionin the drawing are not scaled the way they used to.
I was thinking about telling them a command that will do the magic.
I recall a scale command where you could SSX a set of objects and you could scale all of them at once and they were able to keep thier insertion point and all obects were scaled up or down, recall the command inside scale command?
Smart Objects previously created no longer scale properly. These objects have live type and vector shapes in them, but they behave just like raster elements. These objects scaled properly in the past, and I can only think a setting has broken somewhere.
I've tried restarting, trashing the prefs and creating a new object just to see what would happen, but to no avail...
I have a function that uses AcadApplication.ActiveDocument.SendCommand to allow the user to scale the inserted lines and text before the next step of the process, but AutoCAD does not display the scale prompt until after the entire program finishes. The prompt works well, but needs to be displayed before I end the sub.
How do I get the command to be sent immediately? Is there another way to allow users to scale the items I insert? The screen needs to be refreshed before the scale command is called, so that the lines and text I just added shows up. I have attached the code for the Send Command call and for the function that calls it.
I'm creating a large scale banner (12' by 8') which includes a photographic background image with vector based logo elements and typography on top of it.
I am creating the document in photoshop, and wanted to know if using Smart Objects is the best solution for placing the logo elements and typography, but I don't know how they will be affected when the image is scaled for printing.
Is there a proper way to gray-scale objects in a drawing? What i have done is turned off layers and point groups that I want to remain in color and selected the rest and changed the color in the properties box. Any way to move back and forth from gray to color.
I'm using a transformation matrix to adjust objects scale.
Sub Scale() [...] ''Definition of the matrix Dim ScaleMatrix(0 To 15) As Double
ScaleMatrix(0) = X_ScaleFactor ScaleMatrix(1) = 0
[Code] ......
If X_ScaleFactor = Y_ScaleFactor all works fine, but if X_ScaleFactor <> Y_ScaleFactor (e.g. X_ScaleFactor = 2 and Y_ScaleFactor = 4 I get the following exception: eCannotScaleNonUniformly.
It isn't possible to define different scale factors for X and Y axis? It seems a strange thing.
Im working for a geological firm that use timescales to describe their work (depths at times etc). I need to compress the time bar but not alter the text but cant find way to do it. Im only scaling in 1 direction.
