Illustrator :: Scale Multiple Text Boxes On Time Scale Without Scaling The Text?
Jun 12, 2013
Im working for a geological firm that use timescales to describe their work (depths at times etc). I need to compress the time bar but not alter the text but cant find way to do it. Im only scaling in 1 direction.

I have lost the ability to free scale objects/text boxes etc. in Illustrator CS5. I have to use the scale tool every time I need to adjust the size of something and it is not a sustainable technique in terms of time/productivity/function.

Why can't I adjust the scale of my text by clicking and dragging the corner boxes? Why I have the text selected, all it does it let me highlight it to change font, size, etc, OR all I can do is move it throughout the artboard. Why can I click and drag the corner box to adjust?

I would like to find a way to edit multiple text boxes in inventor instead of one at a time.
For example, in autocad, when multiple text boxes are selected, any values that are different in the properties window are represented as "varies".
Is there a way to select multiple text boxes and do things such as change the text height, justification, font, etc, just as it works in autocad?

I'm using Illustrator CS6 with a file that someone else produced. Many of the area text bounding boxes are way bigger than they need to be. In Freehand, I used to be able to double-click on a corner of the bounding box and the box would automatically resize itself to just fit around the text (loved that feature!). Is there something similar in Illustrator? Or do I need to go through and manually resize all the bounding boxes by dragging them smaller?

I want to convert a single text box to two separate text boxes (not multiline text). Let's say after the fifth character.
For example:
"Hello World"
And I want to change it into:
"Hello" "World"
And I will move them separately like:
"Hello" _______ "World"
or
"Hello"
_______ "World"

Is it possible to do a multiple-records data merge that doesn't generate multiple text boxes? And if so, how?
For publications such as a directory with contact information, it would be easier to manage the layout by merging multiple records into one text box. However, it seems like the only option in InDesign is to merge the records into each of their own text boxes.

I want to do a glow effect on a logo that I am working on.. the problem is that all the tutorials I've seen are for single text boxes. I will need to have different sizes and fonts so it requires more than one text box. I can edit the first text box to where I can "path from text," add a new layer, "select from path," create an outline using the "grow" effect and then blur the it so it looks like a soft edge with a different color than the text. I would like to do this for each text box, but when I add a new layer for a new letter and attempt to "select from path" it will only highlight the letter that I've already completed with the glow effect. I'm thinking I will have to save the file each time I create a new glow letter and reopen as a new file to add one more glow letter... but is there a faster way? I've attached a screen shot... the whole logo will read like this:
Affiliated
Wellness
Group
The A,W, and G will be larger and in a different font than the lowercase letters when its done. SO I will have 6 text boxes total.

I'm designing some photo frames and as they come in loads of different sizes, I'd like to be able to make the frame design bigger, in illustrator, but keep the width of the actual border. i.e. at the moment it's for a 10cm x 15cm photo with a 3cm wide border going all the way round - I want to keep it 3cm for larger photos.
and here's a link to the .ai file: [URL] I have loads of other frame designs which will need similar treatment so I'm looking for a general solution rather than something that is totally specific for this design.

I am having a problem with a blueprint for a house. the plan was sent to me dwg. We use pdf factory to print the plans. This leaves a black spot where ever the dwg has mask on the dimensions. Which happens to be throughout the plan and it will only let me take it off one text box at a time. There is way too many dimensions in the plan for this to be practical. how to remove this mask from all? I am using autocad lt and pdf factory to print.

Scale Stroke and Effects Option Odd Behaviours. If multiple objects selected and they're scaled in only one dimension, Illustrator assumes this to be a scale in 2 dimensions.
Is there a work around for this?

I'm using Inventor 2011.
Is it possible to edit text formatting (e.g. font, font size, alignment) on mulitple text boxes, rather than having to right click each and click Edit Text? Ctrl+right click doesn't bring the option up to edit text.

Using AutoCAD Map 3D 2012 Im exporting a few subdivisions to MapInfo after doing my steps on a MAPEXPORT command to create a .TAB or .MIF / .MID which are the steps do below.
MAPEXPORT --> select format_ .TAB or .MIF ---> select my drawing manually ----> do my coordinate conversion -----> DONE..
When in MAPINFO and ready to open / import the exported .TAB it opens and places the drawings (subdivisions) in its correct coordinate I gave it, but the TEXT and ARC / CIRCLES do not come in to scale at all they are extremely large to a point where they can't be seen till I do a zoom all.

I am trying to set up my template for architectural drawings. I would like to use annotative text and dimensions and leaders. I have selected a font and am trying to set my Paper Space text height to 3/32" so all drawings in all scales have text of 3/32". When I type in 3/32" it returns a value of 1/8". How do I get it to recognize the 3/32" value. Also if I save this in the dwt file will it always be set for this?

When I create new drawing, for example, the drawing looks good in 1:400 scale and text I use 1mm height for bearing & distance and it looks good and readable(not too big or small). However, when I create the new drawing and scale it to 1:2500, I don't know what size should I set for my text so it will looks good and readable. So, my method is to set random size so it would look good in model and paper size the print it out. But, sometimes, the text will looks big or too small on actual paper. Then I need to repeat the process till it readable.
My question is, can autocad scale the text size automatically when I create new drawing at different scale .

I am having trouble scaling my drawing. I remember that 1/48 xp is 1/4" scale. 1/64 ?? is that 1/8" scale?? 1/24 is 1/2" scale.

It's very large. The Mtext changed to the correct scale but not the Multileader text. Where do I need to make a change?

I've got a problem with a title panel that we've created. We're using a new type font - VAGRounded-Thin - however when in paper space and we zoom in and out the text font enlarges or reduces as we scroll in and out with the mouse wheel. It's still coming out fine when printed [pdf and hardcopy] it's just on the screen.

How do I scale dim arrows and text not the value itself to be bigger. if the dim is 1" I want it to stay 1" but just be larger. In autocad there was a variable I could set to scale to different sizes. does this exist with inventor or do I have to go through style editor and manually change the sizes and save off to a new style.

i have a structural xref drawing that has all the text 10"high. I xref (overlay) that drawing into another one, but that drawing is going to have a scale 1/4"=1'-0" is there a way to auto scale all the text in to xref to become 4" high?
a bit more information
the structural drawing that im xrefing in will be overlayed over my floorplans, then printed at the 1/4"=1'-0"
I need the structural base drawing to keep the 10" text height because some times i have to print off the entire structural plan separate.

I have a 50 scale drawing and my section views are 10 scale. The text size is correct in paperspace viewports, but is much too large in model space, and makes it difficult to work on the sections in model space. (I've attached a pdf of sections in model space).

I am using CAD LT 2005 but also have access to AutoCAD 2005.
I am unsure about the best way of dealing with text in drawings. Originally I used to put my text in model space - which was fine until I started using multiple layouts in paperspace at different scales. The text would come out either to big or too small.
Others in my office say they put the text in paperspace ONLY at the right scale for that layout. This is fine until you realize that if you have to put text in 4 different layouts at 4 different scales 4 different times it takes forever.
So - I looked up about a command called SPACETRANS which seems to offer a way of working out the right scale for the text in paperspace. EG. Working in mm in model space a good text height for me was 1000. By using the spacetrans command in paperspace I worked out that the text height to be used here was 9.2. This basically gave me my text in paperspace at the relatively same height as it looked in model space.
I now realize that although I can scale my text happily to the right size in all my layouts it hasn't negated the need for me to type it all in many times over. Basically, I still have to type the text into paperspace at the right scale - in this example at 9.2.
How you can type your text in once anywhere (probably model space) and then scale it in all the different viewports without having to retype it all in?

I have successfully created one drawing using annotative dims and text - I have set my text to 1:1 scale, height = 30 in paperspace (although I don't get what this refers to when it automatically says it's 30 in modelspace too) and my viewport is 1:20 scale. It's all good, the dims and text look great, which is what I want at the end of the day, however I got there.
But, when I want to set up another detail at 1:40 scale, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the same dim and text style appear the same size as it was for the 1:20 detail.

First, when I have a drawing to scale in millimeters and want to put its attributes, the amnotations come out extremely small. It's caused me so many headaches. the units have been set to millimeters, limits from 0,0 to 200-150 ish. Drawing a small drawing within those limits tried very, very small annotations that you can't see unless you zoom 200 times in. I don't have that problem when drawing in inches though. Annotations come out great in inches.
The second problem is that, after I complete a drawing in millimeters and I want to copy and paste it onto my template (also drawn in millimeters to fit a 12-9 paper) the drawing comes out HUGE. At least 100 times bigger than the 1:1 scale should be. When I draw and plot in inches, the 1:1 copy onto a template comes out perfect, but for some reason it always does that in millimeters. I tried placing a block over the template with the "model" to scale and that looks closest to the proper 1:1 scale. I double checked on both the drawing and the template that their 1:1, they seemed fine so I printed. When I measured with a ruler it was still off by a bit.
What I can do to make annotating and plotting in millimeters as easy as with inches?

I have a string of text that I'd like to animate in a way, that the text is already visible, and then one letter after another grows a litte and then scales back down to it's original size. The only way I would know how to do it is manually typing every letter, but that's a lot of work! So I thought, maybe there is something else (I already looked at the presets, but they didn't really work..

I've tried ltscale, psltscale and the actual linetype scale of the line to no avail. I'm sure this is a simple problem, i just cant work it out.
