AutoCad :: Scaling Annotations And Plotting To Scale In Millimeters?

Oct 16, 2011

First, when I have a drawing to scale in millimeters and want to put its attributes, the amnotations come out extremely small. It's caused me so many headaches. the units have been set to millimeters, limits from 0,0 to 200-150 ish. Drawing a small drawing within those limits tried very, very small annotations that you can't see unless you zoom 200 times in. I don't have that problem when drawing in inches though. Annotations come out great in inches.

The second problem is that, after I complete a drawing in millimeters and I want to copy and paste it onto my template (also drawn in millimeters to fit a 12-9 paper) the drawing comes out HUGE. At least 100 times bigger than the 1:1 scale should be. When I draw and plot in inches, the 1:1 copy onto a template comes out perfect, but for some reason it always does that in millimeters. I tried placing a block over the template with the "model" to scale and that looks closest to the proper 1:1 scale. I double checked on both the drawing and the template that their 1:1, they seemed fine so I printed. When I measured with a ruler it was still off by a bit.

What I can do to make annotating and plotting in millimeters as easy as with inches?

AutoCad 2D :: Changing Annotations From Meters To Millimeters?

Mar 22, 2013

Is there a way to change the annotations so that they become millimeters and not meters?

I dont really want to change my entire drawing to millimeters because i have other drawings in my model space which suit meters. It's just this one section I have drawn is so detailed and zoomed in, it really should be in millimeters.

If there isn't i'll just change the whole drawing, but thought I should ask on here first in case I was missing something obvious

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2012 Scaling Error When Plotting Profiles

Apr 23, 2012

When plotting profile plan sheets, there is an error in the scaling of the grids.  I can not seem to figure out why the plotter is not plotting correctly.  I did try creating a pdf of the plan sheet and plotting, but still have the same scale error.  It starts to get off scale after about 500 feet, so the error in scale is small, but still there.  It is off by about 2 or 3 feet at 500 feet on the profile grid.

AutoCAD LT :: Changing Scale On Menu Bar Does Not Affect Sheet Scaling

Dec 6, 2012

I use AC 2013 LT.

1)When switching between the Drawing and Annotate option to the AC Classic option a menu would appear with options to use the civil menu, mechanical or architectual.  This has now dissappeared and I do not know how to acces it again.

2) Coming from a manual drafting background scaling appeared to be easier. I want to change the template scale shown in the title block from 1:1 to 1:5.  This seems to be able to be done as it is highlighted.  All my efforts save to enter it hard does not work, but this does not change the sheet scale. Changing the scale on the menu bar does not affet the sheet scaling

AutoCad :: Why Drawing Is Not Plotting To Scale

Apr 2, 2011

I have drawn a 2D 'ruler' 250 units by 50 units and drawn 10mm marks along the edge of the ruler with the last section divided into 1mm marks.

When I plot the drawing, setting the scale in the properties box to 1:1 or 1:2 (or whatever scale I choose) then selecting File, Plot etc, (leaving the scale in the 'Plot Scale' section of the dialog box as shown - normally 1:1) the resulting plot is slightly smaller than expected. What should be say 200mm is more like 199 mm.

I am using AutoCad 2007 and a local domestic type printer (HP type) connected via a USB line.

AutoCad :: Plotting Correct Scale To PDF?

Jan 25, 2011

I am putting together a catalog with some drawings from AC 2010. I am drawing in model space and printing in paper space. The view port scale is 1:1. If I print directly from Autocad to the printer, everything is fine. If I first plot to PDF from Autocad and then print, the dimensions are off by about 1/8". The dimensions read correctly, but they do not measure correctly. The paper size is 8 1/2 x 11. I would like these PDF files to be accurate in case someone needs to print them.

I have tried saving to dwf and then printing and printing out of Design Review but it doesn't make any difference. My settings in Adobe are 1:1 as far as I can tell.

AutoCad :: Finding The Right Scale For Plotting

Apr 15, 2011

I am attempting to plot a site plan for a large single family home property (2 lots at 200'x329') to an ARCH D (24x36) sheet and have set up the paper space and a title block template to fit this. I set up a new viewport inside the tile block template to take up all the open space inside it.

Our professor provided us the survey from which we're doing our drawings and has asked for us to plot in 1:20 scale(1"=20'), so I have input 1:240 (1" = 240") in the layout scale menu. The site plan to be plotted fits, but much too small to be acceptable. It takes up only maybe a third of the viewport, when it should fill the viewport (the sheet) for the most part.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Annotative Objects Scaling To Current View Scale?

Jun 26, 2012

I love annotative scaling of objects it is a great feature. I am however having one problem that I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or something.  Is there a way to prevent civil 3d from scaling your annotative objects based on the view scale you are looking at?  For example if I zoom out (in model space or max viewport) to show my entire drawing and regen, civil 3d scales all my text and blocks to an enomous scale esentially blocking my entire drawing with solid colour. also if I zoom into a small area to do some detail work all my text becomes microscopic and unuseable. This makes adjusting text so it doesn;t overlap other text very difficult if it never appears at the correct size. Is there a way to freeze annotative objects at thier correct scale (for the current viewport scale) so they dont scale simply because you zoom in or out on a drawing?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Plotting To PDF With Correct Scale

Mar 13, 2013

I've got a question about plotting to a measurable PDF with the correct scale.

Currently, if you plot to PDF (ARCH full bleed D 24x36 paper size) using 1:1 scale of the Layout area (including viewport, title block, etc) you get a nice PDF of the appropriate plan which would print to paper at the correct scale (1/16" = 1' 0'). If you set the plot scale to 1/16" = 1' 0' then preview/plot it then it appears completely tiny (like 2% of the page size), in the bottom left corner.

However, I want to make the PDF measurable. At the moment, if you do this using a 1:1 plot, the default numbers given by the measure tool are way out of proportion (a 29' dimension in the drawing is measured as 48,294 with no units). To get it to give accurate measurements, you have to tell Reader/Acrobat to ignore document scaling in preferences, then "Change Scale Ratio" to the appropriate scale ratio (0.625 in = 1 ft). This means you can measure to scale in Reader or Acrobat BUT these options disappear once you close Reader/Acrobat.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Plotting To PDF Scale Not Working?

Aug 21, 2012

I'm trying to plot a simple site plan to PDF through the DWG to PDF.pc3 option.

The scale in my model space is 1-1 and in my viewport in paper space 1-200.

The issue is I plot to PDF, and then the scale is way out. For example an object that should be 10,000mm long in model space appears as 59mm (11,800mm scaled) on the PDF. And of course when I print from the PDF to a printer this scale error carries over.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Automated Scale Bar - Title Block Text To Reflect Plotting At Half Size

Any way to get a scale bar/title block text to reflect plotting at half size?

We use the common (24x36) sheet size for all projects, but when plotting we send out half size (12x18) as well.  This means the scale bar reading 1"=40' is no longer correct. It should read 1"=20'.  I would like to automate this.

AutoCad :: Units From Inches To Millimeters

Dec 15, 2011

I have this problem with units. I am using 2012 Autocad drafting. I want to work with millimeters, for instance usually when I type 1000, that is usually refereed as 1 meter. Now in the new model space when I type 1000 the line is so long, I even have to press regenerate so that I can see the line. I checked the units, they are set to millimeters, I also checked from options - user preferences they are also set to millimeters.

When for instance I will open an older file that I worked on in autocad 2010, in autocad 2012, it will work fine, when I will write 1000, it will actually come up as one meter. The settings in units and options - user preferences are the same.

I also copied a table from the 2010 file to the new one, and the chair comes up very big in the screen, so again I use regenerate to zoom out.

Also every time I open a new file, I have to go to units and change it from Inches to millimeters. Is there a way to do it once, so that you don't have to do it every time you open a new file in autocad? I know you can customize your workspace, and I have, but that doesn't seam to do it.

AutoCAD :: Setup METRIC Project That Uses Meters Instead Of Millimeters

Oct 11, 2013

I am trying to set up a METRIC project (that I want to make template) that uses meters instead of millimeters.

So I created a new project, without the use of any template. I copied from the default Autocad templates folder the Model and Sheet templates to the new project folder and I set the units, scale and grid to meters and changed the path in project properties to these files.

Everything seems to work fine, except creations of sections/elevations.

I edited the SectionStyles (Metric).dwg file in default styles folder and It works fine.

But I donțt want to change that file in the default folder, but to change the path of the section styles in the project. The only way I could do that was to change it in the tool palette - right click on callout.

So how can I make the SectionStyles to load from a specific location for a project without having to right click on every callout that I want to use and change it manually?

There are some other things to do/change for making the project template that I want? (I am referring to the units setup).

AutoCad :: Drawing To Draw Some Manifold Adapter Plates In Millimeters

Nov 5, 2012

I've been using cad for a while but only for simple layout drawing for parts I need made.

Autocad 2010 I want to set up a drawing to draw some manifold adapter plates in millimeters. I can set it up for inches but I'm having a problem setting up for mm. I start a new drawing and select the template initial setup-manufacturing-metric.dwt In drawing unitDecimal and precision is set at 0.000 Units is set to "millimeters"

I draw a circle to test it. I draw a circle of 5 radius. Should be a circle 10mm in dia, correct? But it is huge, my guess is that it's 10 inches. I'm basing the size on what is printed out when I set my print to no scaling, 1:1, plot window. The same as I have for all the drawings I do in inches.

Second question.

How can I get circle centers to show on prints without actually drawing them or putting in dimensions?
