I am using the dinosaur version of autocad 14. I know it is old but is working great for what I want to do. I learned on 12 and was using 14 when I stopped working 10 years ago.
I am having trouble scaling my drawing. I remember that 1/48 xp is 1/4" scale. 1/64 ?? is that 1/8" scale?? 1/24 is 1/2" scale.
Im working for a geological firm that use timescales to describe their work (depths at times etc). I need to compress the time bar but not alter the text but cant find way to do it. Im only scaling in 1 direction.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst, when I have a drawing to scale in millimeters and want to put its attributes, the amnotations come out extremely small. It's caused me so many headaches. the units have been set to millimeters, limits from 0,0 to 200-150 ish. Drawing a small drawing within those limits tried very, very small annotations that you can't see unless you zoom 200 times in. I don't have that problem when drawing in inches though. Annotations come out great in inches.
The second problem is that, after I complete a drawing in millimeters and I want to copy and paste it onto my template (also drawn in millimeters to fit a 12-9 paper) the drawing comes out HUGE. At least 100 times bigger than the 1:1 scale should be. When I draw and plot in inches, the 1:1 copy onto a template comes out perfect, but for some reason it always does that in millimeters. I tried placing a block over the template with the "model" to scale and that looks closest to the proper 1:1 scale. I double checked on both the drawing and the template that their 1:1, they seemed fine so I printed. When I measured with a ruler it was still off by a bit.
What I can do to make annotating and plotting in millimeters as easy as with inches?
I have a drawing (attached) with the following settings: LTSCALE = 1, MSLTSCALE = 1, PSLTSCALE = 1.For some reason the linetype is not scaling based on the annotative scale. It will update correctly if I change the LTSCALE but for some reason it wants to ignore the MS and PSLTSCALE variables.
As a note, the drawing was converted from a Microstation drawing and the linetype is a converted Microstation linetype.Is there something in the linetype that is doing this.
So I create a block on layer 0 and then create the block as a 1 inch by 1 inch block so it is easy to scale up to the size I need but when I try to insert the block at the scale I need it wont resize it to the correct scale. It stays at the 1 inch by 1 inch original block.

1)When switching between the Drawing and Annotate option to the AC Classic option a menu would appear with options to use the civil menu, mechanical or architectual. This has now dissappeared and I do not know how to acces it again.
2) Coming from a manual drafting background scaling appeared to be easier. I want to change the template scale shown in the title block from 1:1 to 1:5. This seems to be able to be done as it is highlighted. All my efforts save to enter it hard does not work, but this does not change the sheet scale. Changing the scale on the menu bar does not affet the sheet scaling
I love annotative scaling of objects it is a great feature. I am however having one problem that I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or something. Is there a way to prevent civil 3d from scaling your annotative objects based on the view scale you are looking at? For example if I zoom out (in model space or max viewport) to show my entire drawing and regen, civil 3d scales all my text and blocks to an enomous scale esentially blocking my entire drawing with solid colour. also if I zoom into a small area to do some detail work all my text becomes microscopic and unuseable. This makes adjusting text so it doesn;t overlap other text very difficult if it never appears at the correct size. Is there a way to freeze annotative objects at thier correct scale (for the current viewport scale) so they dont scale simply because you zoom in or out on a drawing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.
I am having some problems getting the hang of applying the drawing scale to my assignment. I understand the scale factor that is applicable to the printing only and that AutoCAD doesn't care about the units used...but something is not clicking here and I'm sure it is pretty simple. My assignment requires me to draw 3 simple structures at 1/8" scale on 11X17 paper. Each house is 20' long with 10' walls and each is done in absolute, relative, and polar. I actually completed the work with all 3 formats without specifying the scale or paper size, just to get familiar with the commands. But now that I am trying to set the dimensions correctly, I cannot replicate my work because I'm getting lost in the way things are defined. I am using AutoCAD 2005, also have a 2002 version to which I can defer.

When I upload a drawing from the internet I save it as a wblock.when I insert it into my exixsting drawing it is not scaled to the same dimensions as the rest of the drawing.
I change the units to the same as the drawing befeore I save it as Wblock. But Im still having this Problem.

I have a dxf file that consists of multiple rectangles (filled). I need to keep the X-Y position of each rectangle / entity the same but scale the size of the rectangle.
So for example, scale by -10%. If its a filled rectangle centered at (1,1) size (2,2) I need it to be centered at (1,1) and size (1.8, 1..
DXF is a text file and I can write a piece of VBA code to go through, decode the text, find the rectangles, scale, save the text file back to DXF.

I downloaded a free PDF to DWG converter and converted a land survey PDF to DWG, subsequently i imported the file to ACAD 2006 LT.
I would like to be able to dimension the drawing using the dimensions from the PDF, this would require some form of rescaling.
I've attached the file, you can see the line i've dimensioned is 80,6 units whereas the drawing is detailed 312.63 feet - how do i make them match?
Scale in Layout. I drew my drawing in mm , and I want to use Layout to print it like I saw in a video, but how do I scale my drawing? For example, the counter and shelf I drew is 1:1 in the Model workspace(1600 by 2000mm) but in Layout, for printing on to an A3 sized paper how do I get it to print in 1:40 or something of that sort?
Right now I'm printing by using Fit To Paper with the dimensions included, but I notice our contractors are using 1:30, 1:40 etc. , my boss doesn't mind since I include the dimensions but I reckon it might cause problems in the future.
And is it possible to just select anything in my selection window, even 3/4 of a line? Because right now, I can only select the whole line no matter what, I only want 1/2 of it because I want to cut the whole drawing in half and move it apart.
By the way, is it possible to customize the panel? Instead of switching between tabs constantly, can I make my own panel? I googled this and tried using CUI but it is confusing. I just want certain sections grouped into 1 bar. Like... Draw/Modify/Attach/Windows all on the first panel.
I really want to be able to type in certain commands without hitting Enter, is that possible? If I hit M, it will move the object without me hitting Enter. Can that be done? Maybe not M, maybe Alt+1 to move, Alt+2 to Scale etc. etc.
When trying to scale the print size, after clicking inside the scale box, the sizes just keep increasing, even though I never got a chance to enter anything.It just keep getting bigger and bigger. How do I turn this "feature" off?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm working on a drawing started by someone else. They do everything in model space...no paperspace and no viewports. drawing and border are both in model space. I'm not used to just model space.
How do i set the scale of the drawing in model space? do i need to use different size borders to get the correct scale? I'm drawing everything 1:1 and i need my final prints to be on 11x17 paper.
on a previous drawingi see that they used a scale of 1/16"=1' but how they determined this scale. going thru other sheets in the setd of drawings it seems that they used different border sizes (but all are printed on 11x17 paper)...some are printed not to scale if they have no set scale...like details.
example of what i need to do:
I need to show a building rooftop plan view (the entire rooftop) on one sheet. on the next sheet i need to zoom into a portion of the rooftop.
normally i would use viewports to do this. but in model space i dont see how this is done. do i need to have a set of different size borders? but how then can i print them on 11x17 without using "scale to fit"?

I work in both metric and imperial dimensions. I specify european cabinetry, and most of the architectural drawings i receive are for US clientelle so they're in ft and inches. When dimensioning, it's important that the cm dimensions are accurate for the factory, but the inches are accurate for the contractors.
So my drawing had 1 plan and 4 elevations. All drawn correctly. All scaled together, never one at a time. Yesterday morning everything printed correctly with this drawing.
Randomly, after some very minor changes to the drawing, 1 elevation remained at the correct scale and the plan, and 3 elevations randomly scaled down and at different scales from each other. Also, when i plotted this to a printer it matched what was on the screen. When i plotted it to PDF immediately after, the PDF's reflected 5 totally different scales where all 5 drawings and didn't match the screen or print. For example: a cabinet height in one elevation was 87cm, the next 86cm , and the next 83.9cm. Printed to pdf at totally different dimensions (see attached).
The file was closed and reopened, and the plan, and 2 different elevations were at an even different scale, smaller scale than before. They more closely matched what I got when plotting to a PDF.
I purged, and audited (no errors found), I copied only the bare bones necessary info into a new document, and scaled everything by reference to the size it needed to be. Most of the drawing automatically corrected themselves to the correct dimensions with the one step.
However, certain lines on my plans scaled at a far greater scale, while one wall was accurate, and one wall was off just a fraction. So even though i selected the entire thing and scaled it up together, different layers scaled differently. Basically i had to redraw the plan almost entirely.
The same happened with 3 of the 4 elevations. One section scaled correctly, one section scaled more than it should have and made that portion off.
So i had to redo that elevation as well.I created guidelines and set them where they need to be to align every single wall and cabinet and locked the layer in the hopes that if things move again, the guides will remain.
This has happened randomly with drawings previously, but only by a degree of .1 to .3 cm. I figured this was from scaling the drawings and dimension accuracy. While that was annoying, it was minor. This time we're looking at 2-8 inches difference which can really mess up a job if unnoticed.
what could cause only portions of drawings to scale differently than the rest and at random times even when the scale command hasn't been used? And between closing a document and reopening it? AND from printing to a printer and to a PDF?
I have a building plan that needs to be in 1:100. When put my drawing into the new layout its there. Then when I change the scale, my drawing disappears.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm designing some photo frames and as they come in loads of different sizes, I'd like to be able to make the frame design bigger, in illustrator, but keep the width of the actual border. i.e. at the moment it's for a 10cm x 15cm photo with a 3cm wide border going all the way round - I want to keep it 3cm for larger photos.

In 2000 I could set or change the scale for the drawing being created. I don't remember the path now, but the screen included text size, dimension line standoff, decimals or fractions, tolerances, etc. So far I have not found a way to set or change the scale of the drawing being created in LT2013. I discovered drawing properties but that's not it. Where such can be found?

It looks like I should Engineering units though I am not sure whether the connectors and switches that will be on this faceplate will allow for decimal partial inches.

I get PDF's of A1 drawings all the time some hand drawn (Paper and pencil how primative lol) that I would like to add to but when I attach the pfd's I seem to have problems with the PDF drawing being blurred, If I zoom in on the PDF drawing in model space I can get it to become clear, but when in paper space it isnt clear even when it is scaled to the correct size of A1.
Is there a correct way of inserting the pdf in the first place ? (ie scale etc that I should be doing )

View 9 Replies View Relatedjust done a job for a client and when they get them printed they are not to scale (slightly smaller), i have checked my drawing and it is scaled correctly. i plot to a pdf and the client gets the pdf printed locally. when i print i print to extents and plot centred. i also sent a shopfit drawing from another company using the same method except their drawing was set to plot the layout, their drawing plotted correctly to scale so i am wondering now if plotting to extents is the cause of the problem?
