I have been using GIMP for a few weeks now and all of a sudden I cannot start the program anymore. During start up of GIMP 2.8 it displays a window saying it is loading data files. It gets as far as loading 'Tool presets' when it crashes. I tried restarting the computer and also uninstalling and re-installing GIMP with the same end result.
View 2 RepliesI have had GIMP 2.8 up and running the last month or so. Just last night, it wouldnt load up. It got to the: tools preset and, says it has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I havent updated anything lately, and havent installed any new fonts, scripts or brushes in weeks, with the exception of saving some brushes with the: paste as brush command.
I am running the version 2.8.4 on my compaq Notebook, Windows 7. GIMP 2.6 works fine if i downgrade.
I am creating lots of tool presets. Considering I could want to format my computer, in which Windows folder are "tool presets" stored in order to make a backup of them? I am supposing that in a new GIMP installation I could copy the saved tool presets to the correct folder and all my presets will be load, without the need to recreate all toll presets again. I

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust installed elements 12 (on windows 8), built a catalog but can't load jpg files taken on an LG phone. The pictures load into picture viewer and into elements editor (at which point they are then in the catalog), but I can't import directly.
nothing was imported, the file or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog.
the files are jpg and they are not in the catalog.
Ive noticed (scanning the forum) that other people have had issues with LG phones in previous versions of elements

I got it, used it to colorize a black and white picture of a B-29 and it worked great! Next thing I know, Gimp is having trouble starting. I restarted the computer and Gimp would then work. After a while though, even re-downloading Gimp didn't work.

Example: I am creating a border on a separate layer. When I created the layer I set the X and Y sizes. As it turns out, I need to adjust the X and Y sizes. So far the only way I've been able to adjust this is by deleting the border layer and creating a new one.
I get no error messages, no console messages. Just fails within a split second of trying to run.
What is gimp-console-x.x.exe?
I tried running both with verbose and this is the output:. note gimp returns instantly, having died? gimp-console blocks, after mentioning it would load script-fu. Does this imply it crashed there?
As stated in the thread, my Gimp program had just started to stop loading today, after it was working fine earlier this afternoon. I either select the program itself or an xcf file, and it starts to load with the green bar and everything. At about 3/4 into loading, right when it gets to "Tool Presets", windows informs me the program has stopped working and says it will notify me if it finds a solution.
I run the program on Windows 8.
I've never asked about this but I've succeeded in doing this many times over the years. I have this habit of flying through my keystrokes and sometimes hit a key or a series of keys causing the entire Tool bar and Window presets to disappear.
Until now, I've reset each window to show my actions, history, etc. and re click on Tools in the Window scroll to have them show up again. The question is two-pronged: What am I accidentally hitting on my keyboard to make all these disappear at once and is there a keystroke I can use to bring them all up again?
Every time I reboot, all of my tool presets are lost:
Brushes, dodge and burn tool, smudge tool - all
revert to default settings. Sure, there is a Save Tool
Presets in the tool pallet but do I really have to
reload my tool presets every time I reboot?
There's mention of a "tool presets" function. e.g. you set up your box tool just so (colors, alpha blend, thickness etc) and could then save this as "my blue box #2" etc to be recalled later instead of a ton of clicks to set it up the way you want. Is this possible to do somehow & I just missed it? are there any plugins or something that could enable a feature like this?

I used eyedropper tool(shift-click/normal-click both gave the same result) on the background and it gave me a strange result. As you see the back ground is blue-to-black gradation but the color picked is green-ish from nowhere.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a list of brushes in the Tool Presets. I go to the Preset Manager and organize them in an order that makes sense to me, then I Save the presets with a name in the Tools presets. Just to be sure, I save the workspace with a new name.
If I close PS and reopen it, the tools appear in the Tools Presets, but not in the order I saved them earlier. They are all in alpahbetical order again.
I've gone through this several times, and it seems I am doing it right. I must be missing a step somewhere. This is on Windows 7, 64 Bit, Photoshop 5.
I'm trying to import Actions and tool presets from CS5 to CS6. I've read the FAQs, done the Import Presets, the pop-up box says they have been imported, I've re-started CS6, but there are still only the default sets. I looked at:- Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets, it is there, but has 0 bytes.

The Photoshop 6 beta program froze while using the crop tool on an image size of 8052x5368. I tried to save a file in another program while waiting for the crop to finish (usually about 1 second) and got an out-of-memory error. I checked the D: driv where the file in the other program was saved.
I have a flash C: drive and is not selected in the scratch disk preference. Two scratch disks, E: and G:, are selected with a total of about 800GB free space. After closing PS6Beta, the D: drive recovered about 164GB. The D: drive is not selected in the Scratch Disk list. I work with larger files and anticipate this problem again.How can I trap information for Adobe next time?

Using transform tool to rotate, often gradients do not rotate. In the example below only the "w" gradient did. Good news is the rotate tool works fine.
Appears this has something to do with compound paths, as this normally does not happen on a new single path. Releasing the compound also rotates the gradient unexpectedly.
a few of my various custom lines and shapes in the Tools Presets saved in CS4 and loaded in CS6 do not transfer with the correct Fill and Stroke they had in CS4. Examples are simple things like a red hollow ellipse, a red arrow, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a jpg of a Pokémon picture that the filename is Japanese character text, and Gimp ALWAYS give a "failed to open '?????????????.jpg'" error message when opening files containing Japanese characters!!! I can put Japanese characters using the text tool into a picture using gimp so I KNOW it knows the Japanese charset, but that error message ALWAYS occurs with images with filenames containing Japanese characters.
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe hole tool will not let me complete the holes if I delete the cross part references & re-create them again.
Note that I had to change some adaptive hole locations to follow a part that was moved & I couldn't get adaptivity turned on for all components involved (adaptivity grayed out on actual part to change). Not sure why I could turn adaptivity back on. So I opted to just recreate the cross part hole references in the parts hole sketch.
I find I have to now delete the holes completely & start over which causes extra work in IDW & IPN files downstream.
Is this as planned or am I doing something wrong. This used to be easy in 2012.

Error loading PSD file: Unsupported compression mode: 58596
i've done this before and opened 3 and even 4gb files and never had a problem do you know if there is a cap on file size?
When trying to print in Elements 11, after clicking "Print/Page Setup/Presets/Show Presets", the box freezes. Clicking Cancel or OK does not work. I then have to Force Quit Elements to clear it. Apple say that it is a problem with Elements. Using the same procedure in other applications, clicking Cancel or OK does work.

They are still in develop presets but there not showing up and Ive tried deleting them and adding them again then closing out of lightroom 4 and going back in but I can not seem to get them to show up again.
