Mar 22, 2013When I try to rotate an image with only one layer, the image rotates but the "window" which contains it does not! I end up with the image rotated 90 degrees, but it's cropped because the window it's in, did not move. That window sticks out with a checkerboard pattern. I've looked in the GIMP manual and gone to YouTube for an explanation on how to use the rotate tool but I couldn't understand the tutorials. how to use the rotate tool successfully? I'm a severe dyslexic with low vision so usually, standard tutorials don't work for me.

Jul 1, 2012I've got a problem with basic image editing in GIMP.The screenshots should give understanding. I have GIMP 2.6 on Windows 7.GIMP wont allow me to move anything around in the darker area of this image("IconOverlay.png" - attached).
I've tried reinstalling GIMP as well as deleting the user preferencesfolder. I've also tried copying the image into a new GIMP window and editing it inthat, but it doesn't work. This has never happened before on any other image I've edited.
GIMP :: 2.6 Has Lost Focus In Image Window
Apr 26, 2011I've got a Macbook Pro running X11(ver 2.3.6) and Gimp 2.6.11 and have had no problems with either until recently. I'm a professional artist with about 5 solid years of experience using Gimp and I love it. I actually own Photoshop and spend more time overall in the Gimp. But now, all of a sudden, I have no ability to do anything it it except rifle through the menus. Absolutely nothing works in the image window because the mouse will not click anywhere inside it. Its the same whether I use the build in touch pad, a USB 3-button mouse or my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I know, or at least strongly suspect, that its a focus issue because I can click on a menu item and drop the menu, but clicking outside the menu onto the image area does not collapse the menu! I've searched and searched and I'm at a loss. My Gimps BROKE!

May 19, 2012If I'm editing an image and I click the toolbox (or, say, the docked layers dialogue), if I hover my cursor back over the image and press and hold spacebar so I can scroll around the image, currently I have to click within the image window before it registers my keystroke.
The more intuitive behavior and what I want to be able to do is just hover my mouse cursor over a window and and keystrokes or scrolling I perform happen within that window. This currently happens if I scroll using my mouse scroll wheel, but not with keystrokes.
I'm using single window mode in Gimp 2.8, though I've also experienced this issue in non-single window mode when using Gimp 2.6.

Sep 7, 2013I just upgraded to GIMP 2.8.4 for Mac after spending months using an older version. At the bottom of the image window are tips for using whatever tool one is currently using. Unfortunately, these tips are TINY! I can barely see them! Is there any way to increase their size via GIMP preferences?
Note that I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to editing program code so if this is required I will need specific step by step instructions.
EDIT: Additionally, I've noticed that image windows always stay behind the toolbox and layer windows. Is there any way to reverse the ordering? (So that image windows can move in front of the toolbox/layer window?) With multiple image windows open on a small screen I need all the space I can get.

Nov 17, 2012I wanted a picture-editing program but wasn't prepared to buy photoshop, so I saw Gimp as the answer! I got it, used it to colorize a black and white picture of a B-29 and it worked great! Next thing I know, Gimp is having trouble starting. I restarted the computer and Gimp would then work. After a while though, even re-downloading Gimp didn't work.

Mar 11, 2013As a new user I really prefer the single window mode but have a real problem in that every time I open a filter the window/box that open opens up underneath the single window and I cant see it without minimising the main gimp window. I've played with the preferences windows management options and seem to have all the file options curves etc on top now (these were opening under the single window at one point) but nothing I do seems to want to make the filter boxes open where I can see them - It's making GIMP quite unpleasant to use.

Aug 8, 2008I am currently using Adobe CS3 Design Premium with Windows XP Pro as the operating system. The computer is a self build and has 2GB of RAM, 450GB of onboard HD storage and 6x500GB of external HD storage.
As a photographer I frequently end up with anything between a 100 and 300 RAW images after a days work and convert them to DNG, Tif and JPEG files.
With CS2 I ran an action which opened the image in Camera RAW which then enabled me to make adjustments before opening the image in Photoshop and completing the other elements of the action. Since upgrading to CS3 I have been unable to create a similar action and having read the "knowledge based" information and looked through the topics in the forum have failed to find anything that is of help. As each image and the conditions under which it has been taken differ it is quite important to make corrections in Camera RAW before completing the action in Photoshop and fixed settings applied by Camera RAW would be inappropriate.
It is always possible that I am making a fundamental error in writing the action but given my previous experience it seems unlikely. Incidentally I usually bring up the images in Bridge and then select the best images to process and start the action from Bridge.
Photoshop :: RAW File In Lightroom Stays Up-to-date With What's Being Used As Starting Image
May 1, 2013how the whole connection between everybody with Smart Objects is supposed to work... Is this a Photoshop thing, a Bridge thing, or a Lightroom thing?I have a RAW image in Lightrom... I make adjustments. I open it in Photoshop as a Smart Object. Add layers, fiddle, do normal Photoshop stuff. Then I realize I goofed on the original RAW in Lightroom and had sharpened it BEFORE I went into Photoshop.
So, I open the RAW back up from Photoshop, which of course, opens in Bridge, NOT Lightroom, and fix the sharpening. Then back to Photoshop where I finish fiddling and save the .psd file.EXCEPT, as near as I can tell, I now have a RAW file in Lightroom that doesn't know changes have been made.
And, since I haven't written the metadata to the RAW file on disk, I have a file in Lightroom that doesn't match what's on disk, a .psd file that doesn't match the RAW file that's in Lightroom,and changes made in Bridge that don't seem to be anywhere...
How do I make sure the RAW file in Lightroom stays up-to-date with what's being used as the starting image in Photoshop? And how do I get Lightroom updated with whatever changes got made in Bridge?
Photoshop :: Superimpose The Window Frame Image OVER The Gif Image

I want to have a gif animation working on a web page - and I want to put a window frame around it so it seems like you are watching the animated image through a window looking into a house. (like a window peeper)
What I need to do is take out the four window pains (or all if I have to) to make the actual pains transparent to show the gif image working.
I am not sure how I can get to superimpose the window frame image OVER the gif image.
GIMP :: Color Change In The Window?
Apr 10, 2012I have been having problems with images that I save appearing to be more saturated and have more contrast than the edit looks in the GIMP window. I tried playing around to figure out what it might be and found that when I open an image in GIMP, the image displayed in the program is less saturated and less contrasty than the original image without any changes made. When I save the unedited image, the new image looks like the old image, both more saturated and contrasty than the image displayed in the GIMP window. Because of the color change in the GIMP window, all of my edits are pointless because it is not showing me the correct outcome. My images are originally JPG format and I save/export in JPG format. Attached is a screencap. The original image/what the unedited saved image looks like is in the preview window on the right. The image on the left is the unedited image opened in the GIMP window.

Because of the global menu,focus on the correct toolbox / area is needed. Furthermore, Unity / Gimpseems to apply the focusing a bit unintelligently. For example, if I moveto another workspace and return to the Gimp workspace, the focus is nolonger on the main window, but rather on the toolbox.

Aug 21, 2012Is there a way to select all the layers in the Layers Window? is: I've got a GIF animation that's comprised of 590 individual layers, and to work on specific layers, It'd be convenient to be able to hide all the layers other than the layer I'm working on - maybe with a dialog under Layers>>Stack>>Select all Layers>>Hide, or an "eye" checkbox at the top or bottom of the Layers window that would select all layers, thereby allowing me to "unhide" the selected layer by checking the "eye" ,(show), checkbox of the relevant layer.
Currently, the only way I know of to work on a specific layer within such a stack is to move the layer to the top of the stack so it becomes the visible layer, perform the work, then return the layer to its original location.
