GIMP :: Window Closes By Itself - Histogram Always Gone
Dec 24, 2012My Histogram is always gone when opening Gimp. It says "recently closed" but I never close it. I want it to stay open the way it used to.

View 2 RepliesI was unable to even open After Effects CC when I upgraded to OS Mavericks. Once I realized adobe released a patch for it (the 12.0.1 "trial" update), the program opened. I thought all was fine, until I attempted to import a new video clip. It would not let me even move the clip, let alone edit it, before giving me a "grouping" error, and then abruptly crashing. Today Adobe released the 12.1 update, which seems to be running ok, except the window for importing footage automatically closes once opened. I can no longer just drag a new clip in to my composition either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Mavericks, I can no longer link files in illustrator CC as the finder window closes by itself after one second or if I click on anything. It was happening with save as also, but that seems to have rectified itself by reinstalling the program.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to Gimp, but love it. I am a marine biologist and I would like to use this program for my research. I do need to export the histogram values as I need to do some calculations (pixel count and value). Is there any way I can do this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf I save an image I'm working on, GIMP closes on me. It's merely annoying if I save as an xcf. If I forgot to do that first (I try not to, but it happens), I have only that final image, which usually isn't the only one I wanted.
Today I was cropping photos for various closeups. I copied and saved a selection I wanted to a new image and saved as a jpg, then both the old and new image closed. I then opened two photos in separate images. Cropped one, saved it and it was okay. Undid the cropping and cropped another section and saved it and Poof! Gone again along with the other photo that I had not touched, yet.
When I used GIMP in Windows it never did this. I'm now using Ubuntu and it is almost always doing this. I was under the impression that GIMP and Ubuntu worked well together. This is not what I'd call working together well.
What do I need to do to fix this problem? I have checked my settings, reset them, returned them to default, put them back to my preferences, all to no avail. Size of the image seems to make no difference as it happens to small kilo images as well as multi gig images.
I have a nice image that has lost the red channel histogram data for about half of the image. It can still be viewed, and the preview is correct.
Can I copy the histogram data from the red channel of the non-corrupt portion of the image? I know it's the red channel because when I open the color data from the corrupted portion the red channel is literally non-existant.
My GIMP 2.8. closes down immediately after exporting an image. When I overwrite it, it doesn't happen. How can I prevent GIMP from closing down after exporting images?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to replicate the problem, but it appears to be intermittent. It happens on multiple computers, we're using 2.8.4 on Windows 8 at the moment.
Scenario: GIMP is open with multiple files.
Browse a folder in explorer and select OPEN WITH GIMP or just OPEN. And a GIMP startup splash screen appears and reloads the GIMP application automatically closing and losing any work that was in progress on the prior GIMP screens.
As a new user I really prefer the single window mode but have a real problem in that every time I open a filter the window/box that open opens up underneath the single window and I cant see it without minimising the main gimp window. I've played with the preferences windows management options and seem to have all the file options curves etc on top now (these were opening under the single window at one point) but nothing I do seems to want to make the filter boxes open where I can see them - It's making GIMP quite unpleasant to use.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with images that I save appearing to be more saturated and have more contrast than the edit looks in the GIMP window. I tried playing around to figure out what it might be and found that when I open an image in GIMP, the image displayed in the program is less saturated and less contrasty than the original image without any changes made. When I save the unedited image, the new image looks like the old image, both more saturated and contrasty than the image displayed in the GIMP window. Because of the color change in the GIMP window, all of my edits are pointless because it is not showing me the correct outcome. My images are originally JPG format and I save/export in JPG format. Attached is a screencap. The original image/what the unedited saved image looks like is in the preview window on the right. The image on the left is the unedited image opened in the GIMP window.

Is there the possibility to resize the GIMP window to fit on my screen?
How do I get the toolbox and the layer window attached to the main window? Right now they're hidden behind the main window and it's extremely annoying since I like to have the main window maximized.
View 2 Replies View Relatedpopup boxes like the one that occurs on export to set compression level, as well as the notifier of colour profile (option to keep or convert) appear behind the main window of Gimp, so I need to alt+tab over to the new window.
Is there a way to adjust this so that they pop up on top of Gimp?

Not sure what I did but Gimp is now showing up as 3 separate panels as it did in versions pervious to 2.8. How do I get it back to a single window?

When I try to rotate an image with only one layer, the image rotates but the "window" which contains it does not! I end up with the image rotated 90 degrees, but it's cropped because the window it's in, did not move. That window sticks out with a checkerboard pattern. I've looked in the GIMP manual and gone to YouTube for an explanation on how to use the rotate tool but I couldn't understand the tutorials. how to use the rotate tool successfully? I'm a severe dyslexic with low vision so usually, standard tutorials don't work for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if Gimp developers are able to assist, but running Gimp inUnity seems to be a bit problematic at times. Because of the global menu, focus on the correct toolbox / area is needed. Furthermore, Unity / Gimpseems to apply the focusing a bit unintelligently. For example, if I moveto another workspace and return to the Gimp workspace, the focus is nolonger on the main window, but rather on the toolbox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to select all the layers in the Layers Window? is: I've got a GIF animation that's comprised of 590 individual layers, and to work on specific layers, It'd be convenient to be able to hide all the layers other than the layer I'm working on - maybe with a dialog under Layers>>Stack>>Select all Layers>>Hide, or an "eye" checkbox at the top or bottom of the Layers window that would select all layers, thereby allowing me to "unhide" the selected layer by checking the "eye" ,(show), checkbox of the relevant layer.
Currently, the only way I know of to work on a specific layer within such a stack is to move the layer to the top of the stack so it becomes the visible layer, perform the work, then return the layer to its original location.
I have somehow detached the tool details window from the dialog window. You know, the one that normally is part of the tools window at the bottom when you click a tool like a brush showing opacity, size, type, etc.
I got it somehow where I have to double-click the tool to make it appear, and it appears in a separate window. I tried dragging it back into the tools dock but it only places the window on top of it. How in the world do I get it back as part of the tools dock? (vers. 2.8)
How do I expand the view of the brushes “window” / Gimp 2.8

I've got a problem with basic image editing in GIMP.The screenshots should give understanding. I have GIMP 2.6 on Windows 7.GIMP wont allow me to move anything around in the darker area of this image("IconOverlay.png" - attached).
I've tried reinstalling GIMP as well as deleting the user preferencesfolder. I've also tried copying the image into a new GIMP window and editing it inthat, but it doesn't work. This has never happened before on any other image I've edited.
I downloaded Gimp the other day, but some windows where missing when opening Gimp for the first time. Left toolbar and photo window, tried to look for i but nothing.

The newest version of Gimp no longer maintains the marching ants for the selection window when you select an image that is on a transparent layer (my observation). It seems to only select the (smaller) image(s) that are contained therein; the selection is restricted to the outline of the image only. I am trying to maintain proper spacing etc. and the marching ants selection window was wonderful for that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a Macbook Pro running X11(ver 2.3.6) and Gimp 2.6.11 and have had no problems with either until recently. I'm a professional artist with about 5 solid years of experience using Gimp and I love it. I actually own Photoshop and spend more time overall in the Gimp. But now, all of a sudden, I have no ability to do anything it it except rifle through the menus. Absolutely nothing works in the image window because the mouse will not click anywhere inside it. Its the same whether I use the build in touch pad, a USB 3-button mouse or my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I know, or at least strongly suspect, that its a focus issue because I can click on a menu item and drop the menu, but clicking outside the menu onto the image area does not collapse the menu! I've searched and searched and I'm at a loss. My Gimps BROKE!
