After installing Mavericks, I can no longer link files in illustrator CC as the finder window closes by itself after one second or if I click on anything. It was happening with save as also, but that seems to have rectified itself by reinstalling the program.
View 11 RepliesI create a file, save it and can't see it where I saved it. I go back to Ilustrator to resave and it asks if I want to replace the file that's already there. I press OK and go where the file should be and again it's not there. I open InDesign to see if I can access the file from it's "place" dialogue box and I can't see it. I tried renaming the file but Illustrator asks me if I want to replace the file with the one using the name I never used in the first place.
I don't know where I put my files when I save them. I've been doing this for 20 years

In the Finder, all my .AI files show up only as a generic AI file icon. Trying to Preview the files in the Finder also only show the generic icon.
I've tracked down the QuickLook Generator locations, and found that I've got a generator named "illust.qlgenerator". But when I run in the Terminal.app this command: "qlmanage -t <ai file>" tells me this:
[WARNING] Plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/ is 32bit
[ERROR] Can't load plug-in at file://localhost/Library/QuickLook/illust.qlgenerator/: The bundle “PDF” couldn’t be loaded because it doesn’t contain a version for the current architecture.
That Quick Look Generator is only 32-bit, which seems to be causing problems.
When I moved it to a different folder to disable it, then the native PDF.qlgenerator takes over, and puts the obnoxious grid behind the previews.

Is there a native Illustrator QuickLook Generator? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall CS6 just to find there's no difference. Does CS6 install any better previews than I'm getting? Another Mac user with the same setup shows beautiful full-color previews of the same AI sample files without requiring PDF compatibility or the obnoxious grid.
My LaCie external drive does not show in my Finder window on a MacBook Pro.It (LaCie) does shows up under the Apple icon (USB) port. How can I make it show in the Finder? Computer is running/working fine.The upshot is that my photos all have question marks now. Are my photos lost if my external is broken?I have no pictures on the hard drive of the computer--all on this external drive.

If so, how can I navigate to /usr/discreet in the TM backup using the finder window? The only way I know how to get to those directories is using a Terminal shell window. There are one or two projects I'd like to recover, if I could.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was unable to even open After Effects CC when I upgraded to OS Mavericks. Once I realized adobe released a patch for it (the 12.0.1 "trial" update), the program opened. I thought all was fine, until I attempted to import a new video clip. It would not let me even move the clip, let alone edit it, before giving me a "grouping" error, and then abruptly crashing. Today Adobe released the 12.1 update, which seems to be running ok, except the window for importing footage automatically closes once opened. I can no longer just drag a new clip in to my composition either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm on Windows 7, and need to be able to open .eps files with Illustrator CS3. Since installing CS6 yesterday I'm no longer able to associate EPS files with Illustrator CS3. When I right click an eps and go to "open with", only Illustrator CS6 is listed. When I "choose default program", only Illustrator CS6 is listed. If I "browse" and manually select the Illustrator CS3 executable, it still defaults to CS6. Using the same process with .ai files works fine, there is no issue. However these .eps files are not behaving like .ai files.
Also, attempting to set the default program through the "set associations" control panel doesn't work, after selecting the Illustator CS3 executable it still shows up as CS6.
Every since I installed CS6, whenever I try to open files in Illustrator (all files, not just the new downsaved from CS6 files), the program goes into "Not Responding" and I can't do anything until I crash out. It also will not let me create new files.
I've tried deleting my Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder as I saw suggested in another discussion, but it did not work.
Since my CS6 trial is ending soon and I'm not sure about upgrading yet, I really need my CS4 to be functional.
I'm running WIndows Vista 64 bit. Never had any problems with Illustrator before this.
After Updating OS X (Maverick) Illustrator CS6 is not able to open .svg and .svgz files with SVG text under the condition, that the fonts not installed on the system. Is there any solution available to open such files without installing the fonts?

When we open a PSD file, then save the file overwriting the previous version, the file becomes invisible. I can use Terminal to set the file to visible, but when we save it again it becomes invisible again. We were initially working on a network, but it also happens when we try to save it to the desktop. When the files are saved under a new name, or in a new location, they are visible, it's only when overwriting. We have 14 Macs working on the same network, but it's only happening on one. We tested it with the same files on another Mac overwriting on the network, and it worked fine. Files that are overwritten and become invisible are then invisible to every computer, not just the one causing the issue.
This is happening with both CS5.1 and CS5.
The only work around we've found is to either individually set the files to visible, or set all files to visible. We can't leave all files set to visible because several people work on each computer every day, and one of them is bound to start deleting every file that they don't know what it is...
Virtually all of my DNGs from the last four years do not display properly when previewed in OSX's Finder or opened in the Preview app. Everything in Lightroom works just fine. I note that the "linear" option is off (seems to be the default) when I import from the SDHC card to LR. I have LR "Copy as DNG" and I apply nothing other than a renaming of the file (filename.date.dng).
I've dumped the files in Library/Quicklook but that doesn't do anything.
All the importing has been done with the latest version of ACR (Camera Raw 7.1 is the latest I have).
When I use Quicklook (spacebar) in the Finder or open the file using Apple's Preview app, all I see is a large black rectangle sometimes with some "noise" appearing in the frame. Yet LR has no trouble and I can export as jpeg or tiff without any issue.
I'm running 10.8.4 fully updated. I've dumped all the caches and cleaned everything using Onyx and restarted. Still not working.
The only thing I've noticed is my older DNGs (which came from a Fuji S9100) are 12-bit (and I -can- see those files in Finder preview and the Preview app!) whereas the newer DNGs (from 2009 and newer) which were shot with my S100fs are 14-bit. All the newer DNGs have the problem.

Is there a way to link many Illustrator files (say about 200) to the styles of a single master?
The goal is to set up all of the 200 files in such a way that they can all be modified by a master setting. For example, I would like to control font size, line weight, etc. in this "master". It could simple be a file with settings or another AI file.
I would also need to "break the link" at some point (or just have it such there is not dependency that would make it unusable). That way I could disseminate each file without the need for the master.
I'm running PS CS6 on a new 27"imac. When saving documents in CS6, the majority of times no icon is saved only the file name when viewed from the finder. Around 10% of the documents saved will have an icon, the remainder will not. This is across the board with all file types. If I open up a document through CS6 I can see the file icon in the CS6 as I search, it's just through the finder that I can't.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've found a repeatable bug in Adobe Illustrator CC..I assign a custom tag in the finder to any Adobe Illustrator file, say "current work" in yellow. It appears in my current work tag folder correctly.I open the file and make any change, save it and the tag is removed and replaced with just a generic tag saying "yellow".The file is of course then removed from my Current Work tag folder.
One of the main things in the new Apple Operating system that I was looking forward to in order to organize my work was these tags. The finder and Illustrator are not playing nicely together. This happens every single time in Illustrator with any file I tag, consistent, repeatable on both my computers. Illustrator removes the tags which removes one of the main features I was looking forward to in Mavericks.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to render a project file on VS Pro X2 using files from my new Immortal Video Eye Gear sunglasses. The files are in the following format:
Resolution HD 1280 x 720P
Recording Speed 30fps
Video Format H.264
Video File .MOV
I have loaded them on the timeline with no problems, but when I try to play back the project or try to produce an mpeg file to upload on YouTube using "Share - Create Video File" VS closes down with an error message. This is the first time I have used HD in VS Pro X2, and so I am not sure what option to select when using the Create Video File option...
Previously I have only ever used SD video files from my Sony Handycam, and this is the first time I have tried to produce a movie from the video sunglasses footage...perhaps I am not selecting the correct output file format (or maybe it is related to the MOV files being 30fps and not the UK standard 25fps?). The data rate for the files is approx. 6550 kbps and the Total Bitrate is 7062 kbps. Audio is mono 512 kbps (32 KHz).
Unfortunately the error message is not useful ...it just says VS had to close - no clues whatsoever.
Is there a way in javascript for AI to access the pathfinder tools?
If I were using the actions it would be SELECT ALL - PATHFINDER/MERGE.
I am using Javascript for a good amount of other batch processing and it would be great to just have one process.
I'm having trouble importing images in Illustrator CS6. Dragging from finder doesn't work, nor does the "place" option. When opening an image in illustrator, all i get is a blank document.

On occasion I'll get the error *** -[_NSArrayM objectAtIndex:]: index 39 beyond bounds [0 .. 38]
Other times the error will say Could not complete your request because of a program error.
Other time there is no message.

Why can't files opened from AI CC created in AI CS4 be reopened after closing the window?–They reopen only if you quit and relaunch AI CC. Why can't anything be copied or pasted from keyboard commands or drop down menu open in AI CC? Why can't a new window be created in AI CC–only receive error code ID-1(Can't create a new illustration. Problems occurred while saving the print file.).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded from Photoshop7 to CS2 and have noticed that the 'link' option have been removed from the 'Layer Window' (the little box which was next to the 'eye' that you could check to select certain layers and then manipulate those particular layers together like free transform, flatten etc.)
I normally use this feature alot and cannot find another way of doing it, is it possible to reinstate this feature or does anyone know a way of still doing this within CS2?
I have recently 'downsized' to a sanyo xacti vpc-cg100ex camera to lighten my load on holiday! this produces mpeg-4 video files which I copy straight to a folder on my laptop from the SD card.
I can put these into the vs library and tranfer them onto the timeline and add trnsitions, titles etc. however VS is closing down with increasing frequency.(same files on my old xp machine seem to work ok albeit depressingly slowly!)
I have been searching the forum and wonder if I should be converting the files to some other format before doing any editing....does that involve using the share option straight after loading the files, and if so, how?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to the Character panel and from there, I opened the list of installed fonts on my system. As I browsed the list, I spotted two fonts that I wanted to delete. When I tried to delete them, Windows 7 displayed a “Can’t delete — fonts in use” message. I closed Illustrator, and tried again to delete the two fonts. Again, I got the same message. I’m going to have to reboot to delete those fonts plus some others I’ve since identified. Doing that is a pain in the xxx because I’ve always got a bunch of stuff open.
Illustrator needs to release all fonts except those in use in the current document. I should be able to delete any other fonts at any time. If Illustrator or any other Adobe program is displaying a list of fonts at the time I delete a font, it should dynamically update the list.
I have been working with some illustrator files for a while and all of a sudden I cannot open them anymore. I do not even get an error message. I tried opening them on another computer. They open, but then when I order to re-link the images, the file just shuts down. The files are quite large, but even when I make them smaller (smaller then when they were before this problem started), I still cannot open them. I thought it might be related to the images, but also older files with no new images have the same problem.

Now I can't open or save files without it closing itself. I would uninstall and reinstall it but i lost my code. I have to make vector images for a couple of clients of mine!
