GIMP :: How To Export Histogram Values
Feb 9, 2012
I am fairly new to Gimp, but love it. I am a marine biologist and I would like to use this program for my research. I do need to export the histogram values as I need to do some calculations (pixel count and value). Is there any way I can do this?

I'm currently recording the median luminosity and standard deviation of luminosity values in various photographs. This has been an ongoing project so I've been working on it for probably the last 4 months. Today I resumed my work and had to go back and check a previous photo that I had already recorded luminosity values for and noticed that the luminosity values that I had originally recorded were different than the values I'm seeing today in the histogram.
The attached picture shows the histogram I'm using (and have been using since I started this project). It is showing a median luminosity and standard deviation of luminosity for a photo that originally gave me this median luminosity value: 75 and this standard deviation: 27.87
I accidentally changed some setting in photoshop that affected the luminosity readings, or if the luminosity values of a photo are estimated by photoshop and thus aren't always the same etc. ?

definitive function and use of the X/Y split colour numbers in the LR soft proofing histogram?
It's the only function inside of Lightroom that I can't figure out - is it a point sample between original and proof, or an area sample?
And whatever it is, what are you supposed to do with the info; you can't "lock" a sample point a la Photoshop can you.
There must be some prescribed method of usage for the info, otherwise why is it there?

I have a nice image that has lost the red channel histogram data for about half of the image. It can still be viewed, and the preview is correct.
Can I copy the histogram data from the red channel of the non-corrupt portion of the image? I know it's the red channel because when I open the color data from the corrupted portion the red channel is literally non-existant.

As long as a cmm is set up it is not possible to me to measure the same color value on screen (with an external color picker) that I entered in Corel's color definitions. This only works, when I turn off any cmm in Draw.
Plus it is not possilbe to export a pdf in which I can measue the RGB values that I defined in Draw. The closest I get is without a cmm (see above) but I still get readings that are off by 1 in most cases (I don't figure why rounding issues should be acceptable here).
The only export that works for me is to export for "Office" .. only then all values are exactly how I had defined them.

When I export vector graphics to RGB/sRGB and open the pdf in another software (like Serif Page Plus, Adobe etc.), the color values are variying a little bit.
For example, my gray value of a logotype in Corel was 118, 115, 113. Now I export as pdf (many logical!! setting of CM tried!!!), any other software that opens the document - also CORRECT CM settings - values are 117, 115, 112. --- The same light variations nearly anytime with any RGB color. Not possible to create vector pdfs of logos for my clients correctly this way! Really bad.
Instead of starting a discussion about Color Management Settings, could any professional, maybe a Corel member check this behaviour in practice and give me a feed-back!? - In the best case let me know the complete settings for Corel CM and pdf Export to get the RGB pdf export done correctly.
(I am currently using X4, but know that same behaviour from X3 and passed again hours to try really all reasonable CM and export combinations, at least I think so. Windows7 and WindowsXP)

I need to look at the pixel intensity of a gray scale image to write some code. I have used some trivial softwares like paintshop pro earlier where you can see the pixel intensity being displayed along with the co ordinates of the pixels as you slide your mouse pointer across. In Gimp 2.8 for windows, i can see the co ordinates but not the intensity. My image is a grayscale image.

Im sick of writing the value of brushes i want to use like example: brush size 10 or brush size 20 or brush size 5 or less..
Whenever i touch to adjust brush size by mouse it always is like this: brush size 334 or brush size 554.. Why it is so easy to pick 400size brush and almost imposible to pick 40 size brush?
Brush are? its like 500px wide.. since when small brushes are obsolete?? i never use bigger brush than 50! and most of the time i use brushes that are less than 10(value)
So its pretty important for me(i hope not only for me) to easily pick small brush sizes..

I have a map of a city which is segmented into different areas (based on post code boundaries). i have 5 sets of data for each area and was wondering how to display this data. one way is to present an image for each set of data. lets say the data is numbers of people. is there a way how I can relate the density of a co lour to the actual numeric value? e.g . very light yellow for 10 people, darker for 90 people and dark yellow for 350 people ( i would prefer a more defined range!!). Also, how might I use speckled colors?

GIMP 2.8.4 Windows 7 64-bit
Using the native GIMP rotate function to rotate a rectangular image about its center (for instance) the corners of the image which are exposed by the rotation are set to RGB 0x000000 with an alpha value of 0.so that these areas are transparent.
If the same operation is performed as a GEGL operation the corners have RGB values of 0x000000 but alpha values of 255 - i.e. they are solid black.
Is there a setting to cause GEGL to use alpha values of 0 for these pixels? This also applies to GEGL operations such as shear.

What I'm trying to do is create images (PNG) that are populated with text values and images from a database. Something I could best describe as being like a mail merge. Can I write a Gimp script to do this? Let me give you some examples that demonstrate of what I want to do:
1 - Create randomly generated Lolcat images where I pull random cat images from a database and random funny text imposed in a layer on top of the cat image
2 - Create address labels where I pull names and address from a database and impose them on top of an image of the state I'm shipping it to.
3 - Create iconography for an e-commerce website that pulls from the product catalog to display the image with text of the category, product name, and size on top if it.

I notice with GIMP 2.8 that I can't type in numeric values if I want to scale/rotate/etc. a selection. I can use the mouse to manipulate my selection freely, but I'm pretty out of luck if I want an exact value (though I know that I can hold Ctrl for certain snapping, which is extremely useful).

I'm trying to bind the number keys to specific values for opacity/transparency of brushes, so I embarked for the shortcut key editor where I found that the "set transparency" does exactly the same as "completely transparent".
Is there a way to define what value "set transparency" sets it to? what I'm trying to do even possible with GIMP?

Gimp is NOT removing ALL color values in transparent pixels!

I'm trying to show, using the eyedropper tool, the actual values of pixels in an 8-bit grayscale image (Mode command confirms that's what's there). In the Info panel, the eyedropper tool displays percentages for every type of color information (K, CMYK), while the "8-bit" field remains blank.

I sometimes see a razor
thin line on the right edge.
Is that clipping?
I mean it very clear when I see the mountain slamming up to the right, but many times I see a normal mountain rise and fall, and then seem to see this razor thin blue green or red line on the right edge.
