I'm trying to bind the number keys to specific values for opacity/transparency of brushes, so I embarked for the shortcut key editor where I found that the "set transparency" does exactly the same as "completely transparent".
Is there a way to define what value "set transparency" sets it to? what I'm trying to do even possible with GIMP?
I always used the number keys to set opacity in brush tool. Suddenly it now affects flow, not opacity. At the same time this functionality changed I started having to click on a mask for the [ ] keys to change brush size. I used to be able to change size without selecting the mask. Did I inadvertently change some setting? I am using CS5 12.0 x 64 on Mac in 10.6.8.

Whenever i touch to adjust brush size by mouse it always is like this: brush size 334 or brush size 554.. Why it is so easy to pick 400size brush and almost imposible to pick 40 size brush?
Brush are? its like 500px wide.. since when small brushes are obsolete?? i never use bigger brush than 50! and most of the time i use brushes that are less than 10(value)
So its pretty important for me(i hope not only for me) to easily pick small brush sizes..
I'm starting to learn a bit about GIMP and in this process I downloaded some brushes.
For the most part I found brushes with file type gbr and gih. These are recognized by GIMP 2.8.10
Some of the brushes come with file type abr and ggr. These are not recognized by GIMP 2.8.10
Is there some way to make abr and ggr file types work under GIMP?
Working with GIMP under Windows 7.
I installed my photoshop brushes in the gimp brush folder, almost 2.0 GB of Brushes. Now GIMP crashes.
GLib-ERROR gmem.c:165 failed to allocate
And shuts down with a run time error.How do I get around this and is there a limit on the number of brushes that GIMP can handle?
I've just installed GIMP to see if it can replace Photoshop for me. But I experience some weird troubles. When I try to use the text tool I can't type anything because all the keys acts as shortcut keys. Aren't these supposed to be overridden when using things like the text tool? I also have the same problems with dialog boxes. The tab key is used to hide toolbars, but when I open dialog boxes I would rather want to use tab to jump from one input box to another. Plus I couldn't enter numbers because the number keys was shortcuts for zoom level.I guess I'm just doing this all wrong? I'm on OSX Maverick.

In PSP X4 when I go to adjust the opacity of a raster layer using the opacity slider on the layer palette toolbar. I click on it and I can't use the arrow keys to adjust the value. My arrow keys have no effect on the opacity slider at all. how I can get it working? It has never worked for me in PSP X4.

When you merge two identical layers (with solid black-filled shapes) and with, say, 30% opacity both, the resulting layer will be a layer with 100% opacity but with 30% transparent black-filled shapes. How will you make this 100% opaque?

I was just wondering what the practical difference was between the Opacity of a layer and the transparency of a layer. They seem to have the same effect, but I reckon that Adobe wouldn't have seperated them for no good reason.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy brushes suddenly won't work at 100% opacity. The opacity will change if I change the slider but never actually reaches 100%. For instance if I'm using red one click will get me pink like I'm at 20% opacity, it will get darker as I increase the opacity slider but never quite reaches 100%. At 100% it is still a shade of pink.I have to click like 10 times to get it red. Everything else works fine, pencil,eraser, etc. I have checked all my settings and can't figure it out.

The reason that I need to change the description is to comply with certain standard codes from an outside entity but I do not wish to change the filed coding that we use in house. I cannot seem to find a parameter that would allow me to keep the number behind the DFL descriptor
Where do I find the Transparency/Opacity settings? I can't see them in either the Text Module or in Axis? Where do I need to look?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, as it says; I'm unable to preserve the apperance of my image as the Layers get Merged.
I have an Object which I intend to slap onto a background, I want the Object to be Faded from one side to the other with 1/4 Solid to the Left and the remaing 3/4 fading out to about 120-140 Opacity in the furthest Right Part.
I've failed to achive this when I use the Rectangle Selction to; select, copy, delete, make new layer, paste.
Repeating that process across the the 3/4 and then changing the Opacity Value of each layer in order to create a Fade effect.
Now here's the issue, when I try to merge the Layers the individual "Strips" change their Opacity Value as the Merge with the other Layers.
I want to Preserve the Appperance the Image have before the Layers are Merged.
I've tired switching Blend Modes but wihtout Success.
I've also tried to without seperating the Image into "Strips" in Layers, using the Gradient to cause a Fade, however it ends up fading all of the Image to some degree (and not just the 3/4), additionally I can't control the exact Opacity Value of the Fade.
I'm in the process of drawing a site plan which contains buildings, roads and wooded areas. I want to draw roads which go through the wooded areas. I want both the road and the woods to be opaque except where the woods overlaps the road (I want the wood to be partially transparent at the overlap). Example of the effect I want is shown below. I don't get this effect when trying to use blending transparency modes. I'm sure it can be done with the opacity mask but I've tried all sorts of combinations and not managed to get this effect.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have line drawings in a layout that I scanned in. I'd like them to be the same or close to the black cmyk value of the text in the document. I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I tried channel adjustment and replace color,
putting in the specific value I wanted (I read that c50 m40 y40 k100 was a good black for print), but nothing seems to work correctly. I would like to keep some kind of greyscale value (not make everything black), but I want the darkest shade to be that specific cmyk value. How do I do this?
What I want to know is if there is a way to make a hotkey or at all save specific options for specific tools. Let's say I'm using the 'Paintbrush, Opacity 70%, Hardness 075, Size 4.00' as my "standard outline tool". Can I some how save that preference (and any other tool such as "Specific Eraser Op. 100%, Hard. 100, Size 10.00) so that I can easily switch between "Ouline Brush" and "Specific Eraser" . In Photoshop, when I make a selection of an image, the rectangle selection tool stays within the bounds of the image (layer). I would like to do this in GIMP, but the selection is allowed to extend beyond the photo, and basically select blank space.
Basically, I would like to do this so that I can have a fixed ratio box and be able to move it to the very edge of the image without having to worry about making sure the cursor lands exactly on the edge. I'm sure it is a simple option to select somewhere

I know in Photoshop, Custom Brushes are done with opacity maps With white being transparent and black being full color and all the greys in between being different levels of transparent. I've tried doing that with custom brushes mini and I've also tried making the images transparent, but I just cant seem to make it work. I can get either completely solid and completely transparent. There are no other points in my drawing, yet everytime I start the process, it begins at 1. I have set 5000 at my Next Point Number under Point Identity in the Create Points toolbar. I have also verified that the 'Save Command Settings" is set to yes under the 'Commands-Create Points'. We cannot get this to behave as desired.

I would like to apply a transparency to some brush strokes. But when I click on a group of brush strokes, or select a single brush stroke, I can not start a transparency, or I get an error that there are too many objects.

I've seen they are arranged by name, so how do you rename the brushes since renaming the file name don't rename the brush.
I currently have a LISP routine that will replace the value of a specific attribute name with sequential numbers in the order that the blocks are selected. Like TCOUNT for attributes - and it only looks for a specific attribute Tag Name called "ID".
However, what I want it to do now, instead of just putting the number into the attribute value, I want the number to be a suffix to the existing default tag value of the tag named "ID" which is "ADDRESS:" for some blocks and "ELEVATION:" for other blocks but the tag name that the routine always has to filter for is "ID". That way the user can pick anywhere on the block - not being forced to pick the tag we want to add numbers to.
What I need the new LISP to do is append a space and then a number to the existing tag value in the block, so that the result would look like "ADDRESS: 1", "ADDRESS: 2", "ADDRESS 3" or "ELEVATION: 1", ELEVATION: 2", etc. depending on whatever the default value for the tag "ID" is.
there are several hundred different block names - but they all have a Tag Name of "ID" - whose default value is sometimes "ADDRESS:" and sometimes "ELEVATION:".
I just started using GIMP last week
I'm trying to put a watermark on an image using the opacity bar for the text. However, the text remains 100% opaque until I get down to 50% opacity, at which point it completely disappears. I thought there may be something wrong with the text layer (not sure if that's the right term.. layers and paths, etc. are all new to me), so I tried it with other tools such as the eraser and the same problem occurs. Is there a bug in my program or am I just really new at this?
When I move the opacity slider, it doesn't change until it hits 50% - then it disappears. It also shows up as pure solid or purely missing, when I try to use it on my website.
How do I get 60% opacity on an image?
I've imported some linework from sketchbook, and despite the tool being set to draw at 100% opacity, my lines are partially transparent.
I want to increase their opacity, but drawing over all the lines again would be terrible.
The lines are all a solid black (although I have another layer with various colors) so there should be some simple operation I can do to adjust that opacity, but I can't figure out what.
