Is there a way to edit layers without deleting them and starting a new layer?
Example: I am creating a border on a separate layer. When I created the layer I set the X and Y sizes. As it turns out, I need to adjust the X and Y sizes. So far the only way I've been able to adjust this is by deleting the border layer and creating a new one.
Basically just want to make the middle separating line in the following image:
Identical to (same degree of horizontal fadeout into transparency):
I have spent hours on it trying to edit the original layer below the alpha transparency or adding layers, getting nowhere.
I'm making a .gif image but the video clip frames I imported have an undesirable rectangle at the very end (it's just starting to fade in). So I'm trying to go frame by frame and edit each layer individually to erase the rectangle. I only have a handfull of frames to edit and then I should be good to go but figuring out how to switch to editing other layers has proven difficult. So far if I turn off the top layers when I try and edit the underlying layers it only draws on the top layer. I didn't want to move any of the layers since that would be much harder than just editing them where they already are.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI exported a few png's out of Avid that I want to edit in Gimp and bring into After Effects. It's a process I've done many times before. However, none of my tools seem to be working. They either give me the circle with a line through it or have no effect at all. I've found a few similar posts on various websites, but none of the solutions have worked for me. It's a brand new file, I'm opening for the first time., which is the only variable I can think of.

I often create images were the canvas size is fixed (e.g. display resolution). I then add layers to it that are often larger than the canvas. I would now want to select the superfluous parts of the just added images (e.g. to make them transparent), but I can't select parts of the layers that are not on canvas!
I also can not see any layer content that is off-canvas. A workflow I'd prefer would be copy everything somewhere (not necessarily inside the canvas) and then align it layer by layer, which is hard when one can not see the content of the off-canvas layers.
How do I edit multiple layers or frames?
I am working on a GIF and I want to change the brightness, saturation settings etc but it seems that I have to edit the frames one by one, which is extremely tedious. Is there a faster way to do this?
I'm using CS6 and noticed that whenever I delete a layer that was a dupe of another layer with links (although not linked specifically to the deleted layer), the undeleted original layers become invisible on the canvas even though they are still visible in the layers pallette. I've been able to recreate this several times. Nothing I do will make the layers visible -I've tried moving them all to the top of the layers palette, making sure their opacity is 100%, making sure there are no layer effects, etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to select all the layers in the Layers Window? is: I've got a GIF animation that's comprised of 590 individual layers, and to work on specific layers, It'd be convenient to be able to hide all the layers other than the layer I'm working on - maybe with a dialog under Layers>>Stack>>Select all Layers>>Hide, or an "eye" checkbox at the top or bottom of the Layers window that would select all layers, thereby allowing me to "unhide" the selected layer by checking the "eye" ,(show), checkbox of the relevant layer.
Currently, the only way I know of to work on a specific layer within such a stack is to move the layer to the top of the stack so it becomes the visible layer, perform the work, then return the layer to its original location.

So this would be the equivalent of duplicating one layer multiple times and then moving each duplicate between all the layers below and then merging the duplicate layers down to each original individual layer.
It could be seen as putting an ace on top of the deck, duplicating that ace 51 times, and then putting a duplicate ace in between each of the cards below and then merging each duplicate ace card down to each of the other individual 51 cards below in the deck.
I've found allot of nice multi-layer plugins (Like "LayerGroups") on the GIMP plugin registry that have worked doing things that I need, but now I'm looking for this one on the GIMP plugin registry and I'm not having any luck.
I'm trying to create a nice example of a paintscheme. In order to do this correctly I need to cut lots of pieces from a picture taken from the original truck end make them in to several layers.
Now I have done this, as you can see here, not very well. There are a lot of lines that aren't cut very nice and smooth. Most of this cuts I did with the scissors tool. The tank I cut with the path tool.
What is the best way to cut pieces from images?
ps the coloured pieces are experimental
In the context of an animated GIF, or any other context where I have a multilayer image, I would like to see a single one all by itself. How do I do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to develop an animated GIF to use as a web-ad, I have readthe docs and googled but still having problems :-(
The ad (portrait format) is very simple: a background logo at thebottom of the ad, and three different text messages which rotate. Ithus created a bottom layer with the logo covering the bottom third; asecond layer with nothing but the first text message on the upper2/3rds, another layer with the second text message also in the upper2/3rds and finally a layer with the third text message in the upper2/3rds. While the logo at the bottom should be displayed at all timesthe three different text messages are shown one at a time.
After reading the docs I then expanded each layer with a text messageto be as large as the ad itself. My next step was to try to create alayer mask - for each of the three layers with the text messages, saidlayer mask to cover only the lower 1/3 where it would be transparent.
This is where I ran into problems, no matter what I tried, I could notaccomplish this. There must be something very basic I have yet tounderstand!
Last, in order to create the animated GIF, I exported all four layersusing "replace" in the dialog box. I also experimented with "combine"to no avail. No matter what I tried, I either ended up with an animatedGIF where the logo and the three different text messages over timebecame overlaid, or, an animated GIF where only one thing was shown atone time.
What have I missed?
I have a small image imported from a PDF 1.2 X 2 centered on a 8.5 X 11 inch White background.
I simply want to select the black portion of the image, copy - duplicate a set amount around the existing image.
I thought this would be select, copy paste, paste..... done, save. but no not that easy.
I assume I have 2 layers a FG and a BG layer. I believe that FG is Black ? I have tried rectangle select then paste but that is not working.
How do you get a listing of layers?

I wanted a picture-editing program but wasn't prepared to buy photoshop, so I saw Gimp as the answer! I got it, used it to colorize a black and white picture of a B-29 and it worked great! Next thing I know, Gimp is having trouble starting. I restarted the computer and Gimp would then work. After a while though, even re-downloading Gimp didn't work.

So, i try to delete duplicate layers.. or Layer's and it continues to give me errors... stating every time:
The following layers cannot be deleted:
Layers 0 and Defpoints
The current layer
Layers containing objects
Xref-dependent layers
Well, its not Layer 0 or Def Points, Its not the current layer and i even deleted all pages except the one mandatory and CTRL+A - DEL... Zoom extents on model and do the same thing, and i cannot get rid of the layer....
How do i get rid of the pesky layers? Can i type a command that changes all XXXX layer to XXX layer and can dump the ones into such as "0" layer and be unconcerned about it freeing it up to delete the unwanted un used layer?
problem in photoshop when selecting a layer and deleting it from the layer beneath...
Layer #1 is on top of layer #2....holding down the apple key and clicking on layer #1 to select everything in that layer, then deleting that selection from layer #2 underneath it....this always results with thin ghost lines of everything that was deleted...
How do you delete a layer from a layer and not get those thin outlines off what you just deleted?
I have been using GIMP for a few weeks now and all of a sudden I cannot start the program anymore. During start up of GIMP 2.8 it displays a window saying it is loading data files. It gets as far as loading 'Tool presets' when it crashes. I tried restarting the computer and also uninstalling and re-installing GIMP with the same end result.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I'm trying to create a fairly simple script that will measure the size of art on the artboard for making printing plates. That part I have working. But once I have made one file, I have to delete the measurements layer manually (which is where the script puts them) so that I can make the next one. I need the script to check and see if there is a layer called "measurements" delete it and then create a new one called "measurements" in which to put the dimensions of the (new) artwork. This way I can keep making files and "saving as" with a new name.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy production workflow involves about 20 PSDs that are updated on a weekly basis. Each PSD has 4 groups with new product images added every week. Every few weeks, to keep file size down, I like to delete all but the most recent product image. I'd like to automate this. I'm curious if this can be done without scripting? As is right now, each layer is given a distinct layer number - If I record an action to delete layers, it only deletes the layers with matching numbers... ie if I record the action to delete layer 147, layer 147 has to be present to make the action work.

I scan images to go into my website on a regular basis. I scan them bring them into photoshop, use the marquise tool to move individual images to be corrected and made ready to put in website, then I save them and delete that layer from photoshop. I then go to the next image and when I use the marquise tool the previous image keeps coming on the screen.
I am unable to delete permanently that first image so I can move on to the next image. Then I ran into the problem of not being able to more an image from the clipboard. It isn't highlighted so I can click it. Don't know what to do and I have to resolve this ASAP to keep up with my work.

When I run it I saw my message from Erase method but... layer is deleted. This method works fine for any objects as Line or Circle, but doesn't work for layer. How I can reject layer deleting?

Is there a way in AutoCAD 2012 to select all the blocks on layer 0 and delete them so that it would leave me with just the one set of blocks?
