May 8, 2012When dealing with a single image in its layer I could use "pick tool" to select image and move it with accuracy using keyboard arrows.
I created a mask from a vector (PSP created by itself a group with two layers => raster + mask). After that I am unable to move the group layer using keyboard arrows. I don't know whether this behavior is common to all type of layer groups, but not be able to use the arrows is annoying! Am I missing something? Is it possible to move layer group using arrows (keyboard)?
Ps.: Another "problem" happens when I select two raster layers and try to resize them drag'n'droping. It is impossible and I need to create a group layer to move them together. Is it the PSP common behavior?
GIMP :: Align Single Layer In A Layer Group?
Jun 7, 2013Why can't I align a single layer that is inside a layer group? The align tool would always select the top most layer group as the 'boundary' for alignment, thus automatically selecting the whole layers inside of it and align them as a group.
Is this a bug or just GIMP's weakness? It definitely reduces the layer group's usefulness.

When i put the group of letter on top of the group of shapes it looked great. Then i tried to group this bottom and top layer together and lost the top layer of letters...how can i stop this from happening?

Jul 25, 2013I have a floorplan of a building and am labeling exits of the building for evacuation routes. Each exit label is on its own layer. I need to show the floor plan from different perspectives/orientations and therefore need to rotate the exit labels in place on their own individual axis. So far I have been going in and selecting the image (label) on each layer and rotating it 90 degrees and then repeating the process for the next label. When I group the layers they all rotate on one axis and therefore are not near the exit they are supposed to be near. Is there an easier (quicker) way to rotate the labels as I have to do this for four different perspective for each of four floor plans?

Jul 25, 2012I've created an image with several layers and want to group some of them buthave problems.
As stated in the docs, "You can add existing layers to a layer group byclick-and-dragging them."
And also, "The hand representing the mouse pointer must turn smaller beforereleasing the mouse button.
A thin horizontal line marks where the layer will be laid down"
However, I don't see neither a hand, nor a thin horizontal line.
I see a small scaled preview of a layer, and the mouse cursor turns to acorner, not a hand.
I use GIMP 2.8 on windows 7 64 bit.
I've created an image from several PNGs. I've opened one of those PNGs, saved it as .xcf, and then opened others fromFile->Open as layers...
Then I've created new Layer group by right-clicking on the Layers tab andselecting the respective menu item. Then I've run in the problems, describedabove.
Seems I'm doing something wrong.What?

GIMP :: Moving / Resizing Whole Group Of Layers
Jun 16, 2011I suggest having the ability to group layers, such that operations performed on the group would act on all the layers in that group simultaneously. This would allow making a whole bunch of items (each on their own layer), then moving/re-sizing/whatever the whole group of layers.

Aug 7, 2012I use a lot of Group Layer Filters so I can turn things on/off quickly. My problem is I have been creating my Layer Filter Group by right clicking on the Layer Group Filter>going to Selection>then click Add> then go back to my drawing or Layout tab and select all of the layers I need then click enter. One day my AutoCad would not let me do that anymore, and even after I click on enter it gives me an error message saying the command is still active. Now from my Layer Properties Manager I can select any layer and drag/drop it into any filter and it works, but I really need to be able to select things within the model space or paper of each layout tabs.

Mar 3, 2012After pasting a new object in order to create a new layer, in thelayers menu there should be Floating Selection ("pasted Layer") like Burnie wrote. Forme, I right-click the "pasted layer" and select "New Layer", and the pasted object showsup as a new layer. From there, I make sure I deselect everything (SELECT > NONE), andthen use the move tool (making sure the cursor is over the pasted object) to click onthe object in your new layer in order to move it.
You can move it first too though (then press ctrl+shift+N to turn itinto a regular layer). I find that quicker, but whatever floats yourboat. Layer. Whatever.

Mar 12, 2012working on Layers and Layer Mask to obtain see through multiple Layers effect.Below is the description of my problem that I am looking forward towards resolution in this forum. I will be glad if some expert can guide me on this.
I have three layers of different colors as below.
Layer 1topmost layer) with Red color filled rectangle.Layer 2(below Layer 1) with Green color filled rectangle.Layer 3(bottom most layer, below Layer 2) with Blue color filled rectangle.When I erase something with brush on Layer 1 using masking Layer 1, it hollows the erased part and start showing the Green color of Layer 2 in hollow section of Layer 1.
What I want to achieve is that, when I erase Layer 1 using layer mask, then it should hollow Layer 1 as well as Layer 2 and should show Blue color in the hollow section of Layer 1.i.e: Hollow section made on Layer 1(using Layer Mask on Layer 1) should also be applied on Layer 2 so that Layer 1 and Layer 2 becomes hollow using eraser and I should see through Layer 1 and Layer 2 and Blue color of Layer 3 should be visible from the hollow section.
Though I can do this by Flattening Layer 1 and Layer 2 together so that it forms one single Image, and then when I hollow this Flattened image using Layer Mask, then it will show me Blue color. But I do not want to do this, as I would lose the flexibility to unhollow/recover the hollow region on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 independently in the future.

Aug 16, 2012PS CS6 .I have two items on a top layer (lets say the left and rights of a pair of earrings), and their accompannying shadows on a layer below. I'd like to be able to highlight both layers, draw a marquee around the right side earring (top layer) and shadow (bottom layer), and CDM+SHIFT+J them each to their own new layers, thus making four layers: left earring, left shadow, right earring, right shadow.This doesn't currently work,?
On a related note, one slow down to doing each layer at a time is that the command: CMD+SHIFT+D, to renew the last selection, only works sporadically for me (sometimes it simply doesn't renew any selection at all). What are the rules for when it should work and when it shouldn't?
