GIMP :: Adjust Size Of Text Layer Without Its Conversion To A Bitmap?
Mar 27, 2012I have a text layer with width given at its creation. When I later open text editor and enter some wider text, it is wrapped to second line. So I would like to enhance the width of the layer to prevent this. When I add width to the layer using "Layer Boundary Size" menu item, text layer gets converted into standard bitmap layer . I don't understand the logic why a text layer isn't preserved on change of its size .
Is there a way how I can adjust size of text layer without its conversion to a bitmap?

Nov 17, 2011I added text to a new layer on a photo, I was able to adjust the angle to fit what I wanted but I am unable to move the text to where I want it on the photo. I would expect that there would be a select tool so that I could select objects and move them around but all I find is tools to paint with and such. Surely there is a way to move a text box around.

Dec 16, 2011Is there an option to move just a portion of a layer (with the Move, Scale, or Rotate tools, for example) without having to first copy the portion, then delete it, and then paste it as a whole new layer?
For instance, if you have a picture of a house and there's a tree off to the side, and you want to shrink the tree a bit so the house looks bigger. Currently, I would ( a ) copy the tree, ( b ) delete that selection, and ( c ) paste the tree as a new layer....and then finally (d) shrink that.
But could I simply select the tree and shrink it on the same layer?

Mar 7, 2013I am trying to move a text layer from one open file to another. I left-click on a text layer in one file and drag it to the tab of the other file. It seems to be successful, but there is no layer added to the other file.
If I try copy and paste then there will be another layer in the other file that I have to anchor or set as a new layer. If I anchor it then it becomes a part of the default layer. If I set it as a new layer then there is some sort of success, but I can’t edit it with the text tool as I can if I copy it within the same file.
Is it not possible to copy text layers between open files and continue to edit it with the text tool?

Feb 5, 2012I often have an issue when trying to move an object on a layer crowded zone.
I select the right layer through the layer dock. But when I try to move my object, some auto selecter is probably ON and it selects another layer (that probably was right under my mouse) Any way I could disable that ?
When I used to use photoshop that was an easy obvious option "AutoSelect Layer" I don't get it how to do this in gimp

Aug 19, 2008I am unable to adjust my Viewport sizes in anyway, (wont allow me to grab handles to adjust size & or move entire view port) after they are changed to the defposits layer, I cant change them back to any other layer because when I try to highlight them, it says "0 objects found". Wont even let me delete them, I don't think they are locked, as I am the creator of this drawing and have done no such thing.

Jan 14, 2013I am using the trial version of CS5 (probably going to upgrade at the end of the trial), and I've only found one thing about it that I don't like more than CS3. This is VERY VERY annoying, and I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or just a preference that needs to be reset:
When using the move tool, I will move something and it will just snap back to where it originally was. When it snaps back, it might move a few pixels over in the direction I was dragging, but it is definitely not moving to where I want it to go. The only way to get things to move the way I want to is by Free Transform...but it's annoying, when you're trying to design a layout, to have to free transform every element you want to move, first.
I'm guessing that this is a glitch because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't...it's pretty random. I've tried turning Snap on and off, and nothing changes.

Feb 10, 2005I have several shots like this and of course the flash is entirely too bright, and an awful red background to boot. I just caught my dog under the covers so I really didn't have much choice in lightning. It was this or solid darkness.
I've played with brightness/hues/levels and I just can't figure out how to make these turn out decent.
They are dramatically reduced in size.

When I click on adjustments > curve, I should be getting a new layer linked to the curve icon in my layers box. Feb 19, 2012I'm trying to clone from one layer (photo) to another layer (photo), and simply want an exact pixel-to-pixel replacement. For instance I'd like to copy pixel (10, 20) from the first layer to pixel (10, 20) on the second layer.
I've found that I can set the upper, left corner of Layer 1 as the "source" (using Alt+click), and then go to my "destination" layer, and click on the same upper, left location, and then subsequent click-and-drags will then be aligned, but that is not an elegant process. I'm assuming that there's just a button click or option that I'm not aware of that will make all of this much simpler.
PS: I'm using PS CS5

Aug 29, 2012I'm having trouble adjusting the levels on a layer after I've previously added noise to it. Basically I'm trying to add a simple snowstorm effect to a painting I'm currently working on.
The way I normally do is: create a new layer, then fill it with solid black, after that I go to filters>noise>add noise, then I add about 150% noise and check monochromatic, press ok, after that I go to image>adjustments>levels and adjust it so it leaves only a few white spots and then I press ok, but this time nothing happens after I press ok in the levels window and the image stays the same.

GIMP :: How To Adjust Pen Sensitivity
Jul 22, 2012I have figured out how to turn on pen sensitivity. I use Gimp at work on a Mac, and at home on a PC. I teach HS art, and we've been using Gimp exclusively in our computer graphics classes for the last year, and plan to continue with it in the future.
The issue I'm having is the poor sensitivity to pressure with Gimp. I'm using an Intuos4 tablet, and the level of sensitivity in Gimp is roughly 10-20% of what it is in Photoshop. I'm wondering if there is a way to increase/adjust the sensitivity of the pen pressure in Gimp.
GIMP :: How To Adjust The Location Of The Text
Jul 22, 2012I've been trying the new 2.8 version of Gimp and find I don't like it. Is there a way to disable some of the new features. For example I don't like the use of group layers. I've gotten used to just seeing all of my layers in a single list and being able to move each one independantly if necessary. Is there a way to disable this feature? Second, I really don't like the need to "export" just because I need to change the file type. I'd rather just save in the file name I need it to be in as it has been done in past versions, this ads extra steps for simply saving a file. Can this also be a disabled feature so that I only have to click save and tell gimp what file to save it as? Third I don't like that the text box shows the font, size etc when on the workspace. It gets in the way when I'm trying to adjust the location of the text. I rather it just have the box and control the font size,color etc from the tool box. Is this a feature that can be disabled as well? In otherwords is it at all possible to revert those features to what it was in 2.6 as far as UI. If not I think I'll have to reinstall 2.6 until I have no choice but to update it and just live with these features despite the fact that they actually make what I do problematic.
