View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday I download Gimp 2.8 and after eyedropper bug I found out that can´t move text layer during editing it. I don´t think to move layer tool.
I can´t move the layer during editing. I can move only with the borders of the text range. When I want move with active text layer, I must do it through the "move layer tool".
Is there a way to get the move tool to pan only to the edges of the layer and thus not show me the gray area outside the layer?
I'm making a math video and I want a way to constantly return back to the top left corner of the image.
I have created a layer group - I want to move it butit seems I must still move one layer at a time. Is there a way to move a layer group across an image?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there an option to move just a portion of a layer (with the Move, Scale, or Rotate tools, for example) without having to first copy the portion, then delete it, and then paste it as a whole new layer?
For instance, if you have a picture of a house and there's a tree off to the side, and you want to shrink the tree a bit so the house looks bigger. Currently, I would ( a ) copy the tree, ( b ) delete that selection, and ( c ) paste the tree as a new layer....and then finally (d) shrink that.
But could I simply select the tree and shrink it on the same layer?
A friend of mine got a new computer with Windows 8 (64).Intel Core i7-4770, NVIDIA GTX 645...Now he has installed GIMP from GIMP-org Everything works well, but it can not rearrange the layers with the mouse.Even he can not adhere Register to other docks with the mouse. He also tried it with GIMP Portable and Partha GIMP Portable (64) with the same effect.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to move a text layer from one open file to another. I left-click on a text layer in one file and drag it to the tab of the other file. It seems to be successful, but there is no layer added to the other file.
If I try copy and paste then there will be another layer in the other file that I have to anchor or set as a new layer. If I anchor it then it becomes a part of the default layer. If I set it as a new layer then there is some sort of success, but I can’t edit it with the text tool as I can if I copy it within the same file.
Is it not possible to copy text layers between open files and continue to edit it with the text tool?
I often have an issue when trying to move an object on a layer crowded zone.
I select the right layer through the layer dock. But when I try to move my object, some auto selecter is probably ON and it selects another layer (that probably was right under my mouse) Any way I could disable that ?
When I used to use photoshop that was an easy obvious option "AutoSelect Layer" I don't get it how to do this in gimp
I want to move a layer or a selection in a straight line.
for example: I have a layer and only want to move it horizontally and NOT vertically.
Is it possible in GIMP? If yes, how?
Is there any way of setting up an automated process/es? What I want to try to achieve is to move a layer incrementally along an axis,by say a few pixels at a time, whilst saving the frame generated,up to say 20 frames or more ?
View 2 Replies View Relatedthere's nothing in that dropdown menu for you to select your source image/layer in the Move Path plugin.I am using an XCF (Gimp) file, with many layers. I selected a particular layer, then I opened the Move Path plugin.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI try to select and move a layer using the Move Tool, another layer is immediately selected and moved instead.
Also, if I have layers inside a folder and try to move one of those layers, the entire folder is selected and all layers within that folder move.
I have not grouped any layers together.
I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8 with PS 9.0.1
I am using the trial version of CS5 (probably going to upgrade at the end of the trial), and I've only found one thing about it that I don't like more than CS3. This is VERY VERY annoying, and I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or just a preference that needs to be reset:
When using the move tool, I will move something and it will just snap back to where it originally was. When it snaps back, it might move a few pixels over in the direction I was dragging, but it is definitely not moving to where I want it to go. The only way to get things to move the way I want to is by Free Transform...but it's annoying, when you're trying to design a layout, to have to free transform every element you want to move, first.
I'm guessing that this is a glitch because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't...it's pretty random. I've tried turning Snap on and off, and nothing changes.
Say I have 2 items, one is on layer "M-Duct" and the other on "M-Pipe" (they are in the same drawing). Any lisp routine that would create the layers "M-Duct-New" and "M-Pipe-New" (based on the same color and LT as the original layers) and then move those objects to the newly created layers?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI could have sworn that in previous versions of Photoshop, before version CS4, that if there was a link icon between the layer thumbnail and the layer mask on that same layer, if you move one or the other, they both move. In CS4, how do you move the layer pixels and the layer mask at the same time so that they stay lined up?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a GIF image that I need to add something to, but I don't want to add it to every single individual layer. Is there a way to add it over or behind the entire GIF so that it remains static while the GIF's frames cycle - like a watermark or something?
Or if not, is there maybe a script-fu that copies and merges a selected layer over every other individual layer automatically, without messing them up?
I know I'll probably have to just end up manually adding it to each layer, (so many layers...).
How do I make the edges of the top layer blend in with the bottom layer so you cannot tell that there is a line??? I want to make it look like a heart but I don't know how to smoothen the edges to make it look like it is part of the bottom layer so when I merge the layers there is no goofy lines looking like someone cropped another fire picture out...

I've got a project where the same set of paths, all on a same layer, repeat multiple times, forming a sort of spline. Is there any way to select a whole layer, and only that layer, then move it about the canvas?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two similar images where the subject has moved between the images. I have them in the same file as two separate layers and am using the subtract layer mode to identify where they differ, (roughly!).
I want to be able to use the subtract layer as a completely new layer so that I can make edits to it. The only way I have found to do this at the moment is to 'copy visible', but this still brings other elements that I don't want from where the layers overlap.
For the projects I'm working on, I use the same template beneath the different layer groups of each different project. When I move a "color" layer into the group, however, it doesn't show up like it's supposed to. It behaves as if the 'color' layer is a blank layer, and has no effect. Is there any way to get this to work or?...
ALSO: I can't open images by URL.
Why can't I align a single layer that is inside a layer group? The align tool would always select the top most layer group as the 'boundary' for alignment, thus automatically selecting the whole layers inside of it and align them as a group.
Is this a bug or just GIMP's weakness? It definitely reduces the layer group's usefulness.
Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?
I just downloaded GIMP 2.8 (on Windows 7) and was using the layer groups to organize a project I'm doing. I noticed that whenever I put the layers into the layer group, nothing I do to them actually affects the image (for example if I change the opacity of the layer, it doesn't actually change). If I drag them out of the layer group they function perfectly; sometimes if I edit them and then drag them into the group they also work fine.
As I was writing this post I tested dragging a layer set to "dodge" into the group and it didn't work. It kept the dodge setting, but it looked as if it was on normal; however, I drug another layer set on dodge into the group and it worked fine.
Is this feature just broken on Windows, or does it not work like I thought (where you can drag them in and edit them individually, or edit them all by editing the layer group itself)?
I have the latest gimp.

So, I have a layer which I made a rounded rectangle and then used ctrl + alt + t to transform and set it to 30 degrees and used alt + drag on the transformation pivot point
then I used ctrl + alt + shift + t to duplicate the rounded rectangle around that point and then ... I relocated this layer above an other layer w/a circle on it and used ctrl + alt + g to create a clipping mask
Now ... is where I am stuck ...
I'm suppose to "split each path into a separate layer" .... um. what?
Okay, I realize that each of the rounded rectangles has its own path ... but how to go about putting each one on a separate layer and I cannot find it in the manual
how do i move the object i selected with magic wand to another layer in a different page like i tried but when i tried it didn't let me instead it didn't even move the other layer look for yourself.

I tried doing the same thing this guy did in this video

Skip the video all the way to 1:25 where he moves the object.
currently I'm working on a picture that consists of many other pictures and their layers. Now, if I want to cut edges of pictures with the same angle, it would be great to see the angle in the lasso mode. Sometimes this can also be handy when selecting rects.
edit: How can I move more than 1 layer at the same time?
edit: When saving/reopeneing the project, the pictures in the layers loose their original pixels, so I cannot resize them to their original width/height wihtout losing quality. What can I do about that? I.e. I think a picture needs to be bigger I have to delete it and reimport it?
I have separated Illustrator images for a character, I applied the puppet pins to one of the layers and tried to rotate it. The puppet pins stay stationary, they don't move with the layer. THis is frustrating, because all the instructional videos I've seen says to "just rotate and move the mesh" but that doesn't work. Even when moving the pins, the image gets cut off and warped what is only inside the mesh.
