I've got a project where the same set of paths, all on a same layer, repeat multiple times, forming a sort of spline. Is there any way to select a whole layer, and only that layer, then move it about the canvas?
View 4 RepliesIf I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.

I have a script that measures the repeat interval and gap between print impressions printed using a print cylinder (for the production team to know which print cylinders to use, and what to expect once it prints, when looking at the proof sheet). Basically it just measures the distance from the beginning of one print impression to the beginning of the next (these are printed with a cylinder, so every time the cylinder rotates a new print impression happens) as well as the distance in between prints. That part works great.
In order to get these meaurements, Illustrator is measuring the distance from a zero point on the artboard to the left side of a marker I made called "repeat", and it is assigned a variable called rawRepeat. What I'd like to do is have the script take that rawRepeat value and use it to move a copy of the print impression to the right by exactly that variable amount and paste it beneath the marker called "repeat". I have been doing this part manually, but haven't been able to figure out how to get illustrator to do this for me.

I am trying to grab specific spot colors and move them to separate layers for our cutting software. In this case I am trying to grab "perimeter cut" and move it to a layer called "tc 1" I get the following error when I try to run the script.

Also, if I have layers inside a folder and try to move one of those layers, the entire folder is selected and all layers within that folder move.
I have not grouped any layers together.
I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8 with PS 9.0.1
I am using the trial version of CS5 (probably going to upgrade at the end of the trial), and I've only found one thing about it that I don't like more than CS3. This is VERY VERY annoying, and I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or just a preference that needs to be reset:
When using the move tool, I will move something and it will just snap back to where it originally was. When it snaps back, it might move a few pixels over in the direction I was dragging, but it is definitely not moving to where I want it to go. The only way to get things to move the way I want to is by Free Transform...but it's annoying, when you're trying to design a layout, to have to free transform every element you want to move, first.
I'm guessing that this is a glitch because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't...it's pretty random. I've tried turning Snap on and off, and nothing changes.
Say I have 2 items, one is on layer "M-Duct" and the other on "M-Pipe" (they are in the same drawing). Any lisp routine that would create the layers "M-Duct-New" and "M-Pipe-New" (based on the same color and LT as the original layers) and then move those objects to the newly created layers?

In CS4, how do you move the layer pixels and the layer mask at the same time so that they stay lined up?

Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. So, I have a layer which I made a rounded rectangle and then used ctrl + alt + t to transform and set it to 30 degrees and used alt + drag on the transformation pivot point
then I used ctrl + alt + shift + t to duplicate the rounded rectangle around that point and then ... I relocated this layer above an other layer w/a circle on it and used ctrl + alt + g to create a clipping mask
Now ... is where I am stuck ...
I'm suppose to "split each path into a separate layer" .... um. what?
Okay, I realize that each of the rounded rectangles has its own path ... but how to go about putting each one on a separate layer and I cannot find it in the manual

currently I'm working on a picture that consists of many other pictures and their layers. Now, if I want to cut edges of pictures with the same angle, it would be great to see the angle in the lasso mode. Sometimes this can also be handy when selecting rects.
edit: How can I move more than 1 layer at the same time?
edit: When saving/reopeneing the project, the pictures in the layers loose their original pixels, so I cannot resize them to their original width/height wihtout losing quality. What can I do about that? I.e. I think a picture needs to be bigger I have to delete it and reimport it?
I have separated Illustrator images for a character, I applied the puppet pins to one of the layers and tried to rotate it. The puppet pins stay stationary, they don't move with the layer. THis is frustrating, because all the instructional videos I've seen says to "just rotate and move the mesh" but that doesn't work. Even when moving the pins, the image gets cut off and warped what is only inside the mesh.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's a problem occurring frequently If the contents of a specific layer is comprised of thin, short or small objects, brush strokes etc. and I need to move them.
When I try to select them (in order to move them), many times the mouse goes a little to the side of the objects (because they're so thin/small) and clicks on the object(s) on the layer beneath. This also has the unwanted side-effect of automatically deselecting the current layer.
Isn't it possible, once a layer is selected, to click and drag anywhere on the canvas to move its contents without deselecting it, like in Photoshop?
If I drop a layer so that part of it is off the canvas, the layer will move back to the place that i dragged it from.

After creating a duplicate layer of a stroke, I then click the thumbnail of an existing layer (where I want to move the copied layer to) while holding the control key, I see the image with marching ants border, and attempt the move the copied layer.
