I'm looking for a method of deleting unused layers (in this instance, all layers that don't contain "w2g") with script, is there a way of doing this? Or am I going to have to find a different way to specify the surplus layers?
View 3 RepliesSo I'm trying to create a fairly simple script that will measure the size of art on the artboard for making printing plates. That part I have working. But once I have made one file, I have to delete the measurements layer manually (which is where the script puts them) so that I can make the next one. I need the script to check and see if there is a layer called "measurements" delete it and then create a new one called "measurements" in which to put the dimensions of the (new) artwork. This way I can keep making files and "saving as" with a new name.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using CS6 and noticed that whenever I delete a layer that was a dupe of another layer with links (although not linked specifically to the deleted layer), the undeleted original layers become invisible on the canvas even though they are still visible in the layers pallette. I've been able to recreate this several times. Nothing I do will make the layers visible -I've tried moving them all to the top of the layers palette, making sure their opacity is 100%, making sure there are no layer effects, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run into the problem where I copy from one project to the next to save time, also from templates and what not. Well there isn't really a uniform nature to my drawings as i started doing them under necessity rather design.
So, i try to delete duplicate layers.. or Layer's and it continues to give me errors... stating every time:
The following layers cannot be deleted:
Layers 0 and Defpoints
The current layer
Layers containing objects
Xref-dependent layers
Well, its not Layer 0 or Def Points, Its not the current layer and i even deleted all pages except the one mandatory and CTRL+A - DEL... Zoom extents on model and do the same thing, and i cannot get rid of the layer....
How do i get rid of the pesky layers? Can i type a command that changes all XXXX layer to XXX layer and can dump the ones into such as "0" layer and be unconcerned about it freeing it up to delete the unwanted un used layer?
Is there a way to edit layers without deleting them and starting a new layer?
Example: I am creating a border on a separate layer. When I created the layer I set the X and Y sizes. As it turns out, I need to adjust the X and Y sizes. So far the only way I've been able to adjust this is by deleting the border layer and creating a new one.
I scan images to go into my website on a regular basis. I scan them bring them into photoshop, use the marquise tool to move individual images to be corrected and made ready to put in website, then I save them and delete that layer from photoshop. I then go to the next image and when I use the marquise tool the previous image keeps coming on the screen.
I am unable to delete permanently that first image so I can move on to the next image. Then I ran into the problem of not being able to more an image from the clipboard. It isn't highlighted so I can click it. Don't know what to do and I have to resolve this ASAP to keep up with my work.
How do you crop extraneous elements from your work with Xara? I've tried the advanced clip tool, but it doesn't do anything. Well, that I can see.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm new to this company and still learning the ropes on there standards and how they do things. I have a floor plan and when I was cleaning it up, I noticed some extraneous linetypes and text styles. Being the good drafter that I am, I tried to clean it up, but to no avail. I even tried to make a new file, but when I copy clipped it in, it brings in the extra linetypes and text styles. Ran audit, but didn't find anything unusual. I even deleted everything but can't seem to purge out the extra linetypes and text styles. How to remove them? see attached for the drawing file. running autocad architecture 2012 on windows 7 64 bit machine. and the files was originally created in revit, that was converted out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from PSE 7 and I absolutely cannot stand that they made the parts circled in my image un-moveable (as far as I can tell). Any fix for minimizing these? In my opinion the "Open/Quick/Guided/Expert" panel is an utter waste of space.

When I insert a drawing from ACAD into an Inventor sketch I get the geometry I want but also allot of points or blocks are inserted also that are not in the original ACAD drawing at all. I cant pick these points to delete them even though they highlight when picked.......

Accessing files on a shared network drive
I have been working on a file for a number of months now with no problems at all. Right at the point of it being signed off today I opened it to prep for printing (outline fonts, check colours etc.). When I opened it I noticed a number of the graphics (embedded graphics, not linked files) and areas of text were missing. Completely missing. No text boxes, no sign of any images having been there, just GONE. I closed the file without saving and opened it in CS5 - neither the graphics or the text appeared in CS5 either.
Nobody except myself and the other guy has access to these files (nor the softare to open them). The file has not been opened since June 6th when I last made a change (and everything was fine!).
This is not the only file we have discovered this problem with - there was another occurence of this with a completely different file yesterday which we put down to a small glitch, but this is now getting worrying. Yesterday it was graph items, so we thought it was something to do with those. Today it is bog standard graphics and text (no font issues either).
Now, I have also noticed something else with this particular file - it is acting more like an imported PDF than an original Illy file in that items are linked together (un-linked by right-clicking and selecting 'release clipping mask'). I don't know if this could be related? It was definitely created from scratch in Illustrator, and none of the items were linked in such way, or imported from another file.
Because I'm unable to invoke the "Select All Unused" menu item of the Swatches panel menu I'm trying to attack it programmatically.
What I'm trying to determine is if it's sufficient to compare the Fill and Stroke Color of each Path Item (every path item of current document) or are there other items that should be examined to achieve the same results as the command in the Swatches panel menu? Page Items doesn't appear to contain a Fill Color property. I've got AppleScript code that appears to do the trick, but I'd like to get input so as to make sure I'm not missing something that my testing might not have uncovered.
I made a bunch of custom brushes and created a new brush library for each group in Illustrator 5.5. A couple of libraries are basically dupes and I no longer need them.
Is there a way to delete the "whole" user defined library pallet.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a logo that employs a stippled texture (a half-tone) in various sections of objects comprising the logo. I've placed the stipple where I want it, created a clipping path to capture the area. Now I have all these other points that I don't need that I want to delete.
Is there anyway short of releasing the clipping path, manually delete unwanted sections of the stipple and then re-apply the clipping path again? It would be like 'Applying Mask' in photoshop.
I'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)

Why in the heck do Macs show layers in a PDF that are HIDDEN at the time of saving if "Create Acrobat Layers from Top-Level Layers" is checked is checked -BUT- PC's don't??
I just proofed a business card with my boss accidentily showing him some type on a layer that was hidden. He approved it. Now I have to make a bunch of type set up in very tight margins work in production.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am proficient in Illustrator, but this has been one of a few enigmas. Every once and a while in a file, I have noticed that after deleting a color that is definitely not in use(ie there are no strokes, fills, stray paths etc) using these colors. I have made sure of it. I will delete the color from the swatches and as a final pass I like to add used colors and sure enough that color will come back. I tried making sure it's not checked global, didn't work, some I don't even think are global colors, and in fact they are generally CMYK. I often notice that Black and C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 don't like to delete from the swatches among some other colors when you delete unused swatches. I thought perhaps they were in guides or something but it's truly unexplainable, and generally with a fresh file if all colors are deleted it'll still leave black white and gray.
Or ways to troubleshoot better other than creating a debug file and deleting lines of code as recommended in the older forums?
What is the best way or anyway to remove text from a text frame? Say if you want to remove anything in () in a text frame or any * symbols.

I have a pdf which is approx 25 pages, the original dimensions are 2500 x 2500. The pages are made up of text over artwork and I need to be able to resize the entire artwork and text to 384 x 512. Or the aspect ratio matching the same like 2048 x 1536. So far I converted the pdf to separate pdfs and opened each in Illustrator CS6 and need to first make the artwork smaller and then the text. Is there a set way to do this as I already tried creating a new doc in ai set for the new dimensions and copying and pasting the artwork. This is not that hard as the artwork I can manipulate but the problem is the text where some of it has strokes and other paths that make up each letter. I tried to ungroup but having a hard time. Would be great if I could just lift the text and just scale down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got the below warning today for one of my AI files that I was working on yesterday. The file had several layers that had been worked on for a number of days. I know that I shut the application down correctly yesterday, but the warning states otherwise. I had another file open yesterday and it is fine. In this file, all of my layers, except for 4 incomplete layers are now gone! I had saved the document several times yesterday, but it is showing none of those saved changes. Is there a way that I can get my file back?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor a number of documents I inherited from someone else, I'm having trouble expanding layers. The topmost layers appear, show proper thumbnails, and are named appropriately. However, there is no little "disclosure triangle" or whatever that thing is called that allows you to expand the layer and see sublayers and items. I've tried duplicating this behavior with other documents and with a new document, but the problem only occurs with these certain files.
The files were created in v13 of AI, and I'm using v17 (CC) to open them.
If this is some sort of bug? I tried using "Locate Object" to force the layer expansion, to no avail. I also tried "Release to Layers" commands, also to no avail.
I am working with Illustrator files that have psd images placed in them. Each image has a shadow that is a separate image placed into illustrator on separate layer. So what I end up with is "image" layer and a "shadow" layer with their respective images in them. What I would like to do without having to group these is somehow linking images on separate layers so that when I move one the other moves as well.
I know that this isn`t a very logical way of managing these objects and if I could I would do it differently but it is a work method that is implemented and I have to abide to.
How do you Un Group several layers in Illustrator? My drawing had layers of information but now is frozen as one and I can't access or change the individual elements within the layers panel or dby picking them in the drawing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs you can see in the example images of the monkey, each part of him is organized in different layer groups. Head, body, arms, and feet. The first image shows that his entire right arm is grouped but cannot be selected as a whole. Instead, only a path from the arm is selected.
The second image shows that the entire left arm is grouped and IS able to be selected as a whole. They're both set up the same way, so what's different between the two?
