Illustrator :: CS6 - Deleting Unwanted Items Outside Clipping Path
Apr 30, 2013I'm creating a logo that employs a stippled texture (a half-tone) in various sections of objects comprising the logo. I've placed the stipple where I want it, created a clipping path to capture the area. Now I have all these other points that I don't need that I want to delete.
Is there anyway short of releasing the clipping path, manually delete unwanted sections of the stipple and then re-apply the clipping path again? It would be like 'Applying Mask' in photoshop.

Aug 31, 2013What is the easiest and quickest way to remove this section or blur it with the background? I've tried using the dropper to select the background colour nearby and then using the paint brush to cover it up but my "fix up" seems to stand out just as much as the blutac did in the original...

Jul 8, 2012I want to cut out a section of an image and drop it onto a white background in another image.
I drew a vector point to point line around the area I wanted to copy and chose "selection from vector object" thinking that this would select the region inside the vector object. I then tried "copy merged" from the menu and pasted the clipboard into the new image. Now this didn't work and the copy only seems to copy the what is under the selection line rather than what is enclosed.

Jul 18, 2012I'll omit the long background --- suffice it to say I did this once and need to do it again, but can't recall the toolchain / workflow I used.
I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?
Illustrator :: Layered Vector AI File With Raster (Photoshop) Layers Included As Vector Layers?
Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Jun 25, 2012I'm having stroke issues. I'm not sure if it's a document setting somewhere or a bug. In one of my documents, when I draw a box and try to set the stroke to inside, it offsets, like this:
Notice that the stroke is on top in the appearance panel, yet the fill is masking half the stroke. If I resize the box, it changes the offset: It was also snapping any stroke weight under 1 pt to 1 pt when my fill was a gradient, although that doesn't seem to be a problem with this shape. Another strange thing is that in a different existing document, the stroke works properly, but if I open a new document with this one open, the same problem occurs in the new document. Is this a document setting?

Nov 3, 2013With shapes that are intended to fit exactly with one another, such as shapes created with pathfinder>divide I find often that there are very small cracks between the shapes and that these will show up if the shapes are exported to Photoshop in a more pronounced way.
What's the workaround to 'seal' one shape to another and rid the result of these gaps?
Joining the shapes is not an option as they are different colours.
Illustrator :: Unwanted Grey Border With Font?
Jan 10, 2013When I write a text in illustrator, there appears a small grey border around the text. When I save it as a pdf or jpg, then it’s gone. So I’m sure it’s not a stroke. It more looks like some kind of path around the text. When I draw another shape (square, circle…) then there is no problem .I’ve reset illustrator (removed the presets) but that didn’t do anything.

Edit: It's doing even more in some files, including changing the size of my text. Also, it is only making these changes to any text box that has a string to be replaced.

Illustrator :: Unwanted Stroke Appearing On Objects In PDF
Jan 31, 2013I'm having trouble with a logo I've created in an svg. file. I seem to have to finalized, but when I save it as a pdf. to take it to the printers I see parts of the logo suddenly have no stroke or stroke has been added in other parts.
I don't seem to have any hidden layers I don't think. I'm not sure if there is a setting to change in the window that gives you all the options to choose from when you're saving something as a pdf. Or is there a setting I should be activating when finalizing this logo as an svg that prevents such problems. I'm pretty new to illustrator, before this I was using inkscape which I got the feel of until i decided to go pro with illustrator.

Oct 22, 2013I am digital printer and I am running into an issue printing an .EPS. I can open the file in AI ( I've used AI5 and 6) and all the layers are the layers are there and good. The only this for some reason the file has been cut into a pile of clipping masks and groups. I think all those layers and sections are causeing wierd transperancy issues. Any way of possible flattening the whole thing? I am attaching screen shots of what the file looks like .This is what it looks like with all the objects selected in AI5 this what the layer pallete looks like this is what it looks like as a pdf. Notice the outlined boxes. They shouldn't be there. When printed the bottom right square, the one with the play symbol in it, comes out discolored. Also there is a discoloration behind the stacked white items.how to unite all those sections?

Once I trace and expand it, with the option to ignore white selected, there are still transparent shapes that I have to manually delete. Jan 13, 2014I want an 8 x 12 piece of art. In the process of creating the image, i had to use a drop shadow. However, some of the drop shadow that I dont care about ended up going over the 8" x 12". No problem right? I simply copied the object with the shadow, put the copy on top of the object, highlighted both and made a clipping mask. The end result was perfect -- it clipped off the drop shadow that was extending over the nice white border and even off into space.
However, when I tried to export into a jpeg for print, the result had the correct size white border on the top, but the other sides were too big. Sometimes I miss a stray dot or random line that is far off of the artboard, and deleting the stray stuff corrects everything. But this time everything was fine. I realized that although the clipping mask cut off the drop shadow, illustrator still registered the drop shadow as being a part of the image and taking up space. So the jpeg doesnt show it, but the deminsions are all off.
My question is whether there is a way to manually cut off parts of a drop shadow without using the clipping mask like I did.
Illustrator :: Printing Sections Of One Image At Different Times?
Aug 19, 2013I've been asked to produce a timeline to be printed 110cm deep by 410cm wide and wall mounted on Foamex.
The time line will be made up of individual panels - one for each year. 2010 / 2011 / 2012 / 2013 / 2014...
The reason for each year to be printed as a separate panel is to prevent 2013 being plonked on the end of previous years - hope that makes sense! (Each panel will be a summary of the year.)
Ideally I would like to design the timeline with a flowing background graphic so I would need to create the main background as one, then exactly crop each year panel to print individually.
What I'm unsure on is how best to crop each year including bleeds ect so when butted uptogether the design looks seamless.
Illustrator :: Divide A Line Into Equal Sections
Aug 26, 2009How can I divide a line into equal segments in Illustrator? This is computer software, right? Shouldn't a computer be able to figure how to segment an arbitrary line? I tried turning the line into a sliced object and dividing that, but it didn't seem to work. Pathfinder only works on two or more objects.

Jan 12, 2011When I export a CorelDraw file to Illustrator, Corel has a habit of turning all objects into transparencies. So I have to convert them back into opaque objects in Illustrator, which can take a long time since I'm doing illustrations that have on average 1000 + objects, most of them opaque. I'm using the default export settings, and changing which version of Illustrator I'm exporting to doesn't seem to work.
I'm wondering if this is a glitch with CorelDraw X5 or do I have some box checked that shouldn't be?
Illustrator :: Adding Grain Pattern - Unwanted Bevel Effect Around The Object?
Jun 3, 2013When adding a grain pattern effect to an object in Illustrator CS6 I get an odd bevel that surrounds the object. There is nothing in the Appearance window to suggest that there should be a bevel and I didn't add it myself.
Is there some setting I am missing or an easy way to remove the effect? For now I am masking the object with a slightly smaller object but it's starting to drastically increase the size of my file.

Nov 20, 2013For a project, I happen to have a shape which uses gradient meshes and I need to apply it to the 3D perspective grid. Short of rasterizing and Envelope Distorting everything, which is far more tedious here, the problem I'm having is I can't get clipped areas of a selection to be discarded.
Maybe it sounds too complicated now, but I have a sample file detailing the issue. [URL]
Ideally, I'd want that clipped shape to be workable with its actual visible 4x4 dimensions. Any of the other shortcuts to put this in perspective won't work. Envelope Distort regards the clipped portion. Rasterizing it includes the clipped portion, even if nothing is there. It makes the selection 5x5 when it should be 4x4, the visible portion. The Perspective Selection tool also regards it, offsetting the group by the invisible bounds. What other option do I have left where I can keep the outer clipped shapes, but work wi

Dec 20, 2013I have created a polar grid in illustrator with many sections. I want to be able to enter text in every section of the grid and not just along the path lines. How do i create text frames so each grid section within the polar grid is separate and therefore allows me to click on it and enter text. I would also like to change the colour of all the polar grid sections individually. I think it might have something to do with threaded text but not sure.

Nov 30, 2012I'm trying to make a repeat pattern tile (using CS5 on Windows 7), but when I crop the pattern, the expanded paths underneath become visible as on the flowers.This is what I did after creating the artwork:
Used the rectangle tool to make a box with fill/stroke directly on top of the artboard.. Select all > Expand (selecting stroke only, not fill) Deselect the cropping box and grouped the remaining objects. Reselected the cropping box and grouped all objects Pathfinder > Crop I'm guessing it may have something to do with the fact I used a gradient on the flowers but how to resolve it.
