problem in photoshop when selecting a layer and deleting it from the layer beneath...
Layer #1 is on top of layer #2....holding down the apple key and clicking on layer #1 to select everything in that layer, then deleting that selection from layer #2 underneath it....this always results with thin ghost lines of everything that was deleted...
How do you delete a layer from a layer and not get those thin outlines off what you just deleted?
My production workflow involves about 20 PSDs that are updated on a weekly basis. Each PSD has 4 groups with new product images added every week. Every few weeks, to keep file size down, I like to delete all but the most recent product image. I'd like to automate this. I'm curious if this can be done without scripting? As is right now, each layer is given a distinct layer number - If I record an action to delete layers, it only deletes the layers with matching numbers... ie if I record the action to delete layer 147, layer 147 has to be present to make the action work.

When I run it I saw my message from Erase method but... layer is deleted. This method works fine for any objects as Line or Circle, but doesn't work for layer. How I can reject layer deleting?
I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.  case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k  case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k  Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?

Is there a way to edit layers without deleting them and starting a new layer?
Example: I am creating a border on a separate layer. When I created the layer I set the X and Y sizes. As it turns out, I need to adjust the X and Y sizes. So far the only way I've been able to adjust this is by deleting the border layer and creating a new one.
It appears that the Layer Filters functionality is broken again with 2013. Unchecking the "Apply layer filter to layer toolbar" disables the function of layer filters in the tool palette.
When I insert a drawing from another source as a block into one my drawing - and then explode the block and change the exploded block layers to my layers.  Then I purge out the old layers. Normally this works fine, but I have lately had trouble getting rid of some unwanted layers as everytime I have tried, I get the message that they are x-ref dependent and cannot be deleted or purged. I have tried to isolate them by freezing and turning off everything else, but there are no features, entities, "specks" whatever, to erase. I have looked at the xref command, and my drawing shows no rogue xrefs. I am not sure what to do to get rid of these layers.
I have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.  For instance, let's say I have a ...  BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.  How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?  I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.  I have a Dell Laptop/Windows 7 Home Premium that's a 64 bit
I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer.  The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.   Layer 1: a layer style and a filter effect, stacked  looks very different from....  Layer 2: a layer style Layer 1: a filter effect
I have two maps of same area (different years) and I want to match them up as one map. I can load them both as layers and make the older map transparent so that I can see through to newer map, but older map is larger than the newer map (in the background). I can move the transparent map but I cannot make just the transparent map smaller to fit over the other map. I will also need to rotate the map slightly. When I try to resize it changes both maps. I have tried the transform and the move tool. So how can I make one layer smaller and rotate it it leaving the other layer intact?
I made a wax seal on Photoshop with a lot of embossment, bedevilment and a Smart Filter. It's done and I just need to make it smaller so it fits well on my certificate. When I resize it (Ctr + T) It pops up a message that reads: ______________________________________________ Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended  "Smart Filters applied to layers contained in this group will be turned off temporarily while the transform is being previewed. They will be applied after committing the transform."  OK  [] Don't show again ______________________________________________  I click OK and I re-size the layer with free transform, and then hit enter. The Layer is resized but my Smart Filter which creates a wavy affect around the seal is totally distorted.  How do re-size my layer with smart filter without affecting the smart filter aspect of the layer.
What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image. I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge. Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?  I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?
I have a large psd. The bottom most Layer can be a background layer is it possible to flatten just this layer to make is a background layer as this may make the file size smaller. Im working in PH5 on a Mac.
I can do one or another, but both at the same time? It is annoying because a mask selection turns into layer selection when you select a second layer/folder.
I use a lot of adjustment layers and they're often applied to the previous layer. Is there a keyboard shortcut to automatically "Use pervious layer as clipping mask" without going through the dialogue box or manually applying in the layers palette(Option-click between layers)?
A link or a brief explanation of"when & why" and "how to use" a master layer when working with a multi - layered image (psd or psb) file in CS6. Â I've seen a couple of tutorials that make use of a "master layer" but I don't understand the "when & why.
this is my problem: Â Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1. Â Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
My question: Â How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?
I know that if I make a selection I can press Ctrl + J to promote that selection to a new layer. Is there a way to promote the layer but leave the focus on the existing layer? Â What would be the absolute icing on the cake would be if I could have the focus stay on the existing layer AND for the selection that has just been promoted to be de-selected.
I'm using a clipping mask on a layer. The base layer that the clipping mask is referencing has a layer effect applied (in this case an inner shadow). I want to make it so the layer effect is only applied to the base layer and NOT the clipped layers.
Below is an example of what I'm talking about. as you can see, layer 1 has the base layer's inner shadow applied to it. I want the inner shadow to be hidden by Layer 1, but the clipping mask to still apply.
