It appears that the Layer Filters functionality is broken again with 2013. Unchecking the "Apply layer filter to layer toolbar" disables the function of layer filters in the tool palette.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
When i click on the green line has you can see on the image. The layer toolbar wont show me the right layer, like if it's not working. But i can see the right layer inside propreties.
Is there a system variable to ajust to see my layers inside the Layer tool bar?
A drawing with hundreds of layers should be simplified for our customer by decreasing the numbers of and renaming the layers (there is yet no target file existing). In order to solve this, I generated group filters and assigned every single layer to them (all printing properties are assigned to objects). The layer groups show the desired layer structure after the transformation (still a three-digit number).
Unfortunately, the LAYTRANS dialog doesn't let me choose layers by group filters or remarks. It seems as all the work was for the birds.
Is there any way to translate my layers using filters or remarks?
I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010.
you can match the layer filters with in the layer manager to the drop down on the ribbon..so how do i get the to match so the filter im viewing in the manager is what i see in the ribbon.

When a group filter is created, it shows in the list, you can add layers to the filter, but when you view the filtered layers, its all the layers. Also, when there are unreconciled layers and you navigate to this filter, it shows the entire layer list. Is there some setting that may have been changed?

I use a lot of adjustment layers and they're often applied to the previous layer. Is there a keyboard shortcut to automatically "Use pervious layer as clipping mask" without going through the dialogue box or manually applying in the layers palette(Option-click between layers)?

also, when i select a a single, or group of layers and move them around in the palette, i thought it used.
I used to be able to select a layer (getting the Marching ants of a layer on a image) via the Layers palette (I think I used to press ctrl + mouse-click) but now, in Photoshop CS2, I can't get it to work.

How can I select a shape on a layer in PSD in the layers palette?
In my past version of PSD, I was able to simply click on the Layer and hold either select or control to have marching ants go around my image - but with CS2 I am not able to do that.
I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

I made a wax seal on Photoshop with a lot of embossment, bedevilment and a Smart Filter. It's done and I just need to make it smaller so it fits well on my certificate. When I resize it (Ctr + T) It pops up a message that reads:

I click OK and I re-size the layer with free transform, and then hit enter. The Layer is resized but my Smart Filter which creates a wavy affect around the seal is totally distorted.
How do re-size my layer with smart filter without affecting the smart filter aspect of the layer.
I was trying to use layer states and layer filters, the way when I use the layer state 1, for example, it will only be shown in my layer panel the layers on/unfrozen for this layer state. I checked the layer management panel and removed the layers I didnt want to be shown from this layer state 1 and hit ok/close, but they're still being showed. So i created a filter, turned it on and saved my layer state with this filter ON, and nothing was changed.

I'm guessing the function is working its is just that the dialog box is poping up somewhere out of view of the monitors, forgot to mention it is a 2 monitor set up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to LT13 from LT12 and noticed that the layer filters don't change the list of layers in the manager. for example if I click on an xref'd drawing in the filter tree in past versions only the layers in that drawing would be visible. In 13 all layers are still visible. Is there a setting in this version I am unaware of?

another complaint that doesn't have anything to do with AutoCAD, but since I'm venting... we just got a KIP 7100 printer/scanner. WORST printer/scanner we've ever had. Period. Getting the right driver, then getting the driver to produce good drawings to the correct paper size was ridiculous, and the gray shades still look like we're using a big dot matrix printer. Scanning is the most painful thing; compared to the Xerox 6204 we gave up, the quality is poor and PDF file sizes are huge.
Everyone at the office where I work is having the same problem with AutoCAD 2014:
1. When creating a new layer state, and selecting all layers and clicking "remove from layer state" and then "okay", upon going back into the layer state, about 80% of the layers have returned and you have to select all and delete again and hit okay, and then go back in and do it again, about 7 or 8 times total before the layer state is cleared out and ready for you to add back just the desired layers. Even if you don't create a blank slate layer state to begin with, whatever layers you delete, once you hit okay and go back into the layer state, most of the ones you just deleted are back.
2. Even more of a problem is that sometimes all the already created layer states will suddenly reassimilate ALL layers in the drawing, and the above process has to be done to all existing layer states.
This takes an enormous amount of time to correct for multiple layer states, which we typically have in a drawing.
It could be interesting to activate a layer filter from a combobox (I'd like to have this combo into the layers panel) in order to have fast access to the layers beginning to this filter.

I created some shapes on one layer, and now want totrace just the outside of those shapes on a different layer. It worked well enough on the first two shapes I did this with (both comprised of ellipses layered to create a particular shape) but on this third one, it keeps bouncing me back to the original layer. This is the only shape that includes straight lines but I can't think of a reason that would keep me from being able to trace the outline of shapes on a different layer.
I have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.
For instance, let's say I have a ...
BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.

How to get the layer filters that are built in to work in the layer manager without pushing the setting into the toolbar? I had the same problem with LT 2013 on my old 32 bit machine. Others in the office running 64 bit did not have this problem with 2013. Running Windows 7 professional 64-bit.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe ability to have the layer toolbar show what layer an object is by selecting the object in model space has ceased to function. Not sure what I did. It's not specific to the drawing either as I've tested it in other drawings as well. It's a toggle somewhere in autocad. BTW Its on my 2006 version. I own 2012 but i'm an old dog that doesn't like to learn new tricks.I just noticed that the prelection ability within autocad is shut-off. For example you select a few object and then use the copy command. The copy command does not recognize the pre-selected objects anymore. Autocad now requires me to select the object from within the command itself.
