Aug 1, 2012It appears that the Layer Filters functionality is broken again with 2013. Unchecking the "Apply layer filter to layer toolbar" disables the function of layer filters in the tool palette.

Mar 26, 2013I have installed AutoCAD 2013 student on my Laptop (Win7 32Bit) and want to work now.
But I have the problem that my Menubar always freezes / becomes instabil.
-> When I open ACAD, the menu bar is by default on "Home", when I click on the tab "Insert", the tools of "insert" aren't visible, there are still the tools from "Home" shown (Line, Polyline, Circle etc.)
But when I click on these wrong shown tools, the tools of "Insert" become active. (Only the 'surface' doesn't react)
Well, I see always the Home-tools. All the other tools aren't displayed to me, but they work (if u know where they are, you can guess and click and hope you hit the right one )
AutoCAD LT :: Using Layer Toolbar Dropdown Menu
Oct 20, 2012I have been having problems using my layer toolbar dropdown menu. My drop down bar will show the current layer or the current layer and the layer of a selected object. I need to open the Layer Properties Manager in order to turn on/off or freeze/thaw other layers. It seems to happen the most when I have external references loaded into the drawing.
Also, the Layer Properties Manager has a few quirks. If I create a new layer, it will not record changes to the layer color, linetype, etc on the first try. I can make these changes, but when I close the Layer Properties box, all of the changes are lost. I need to reopen the Layer Properties Manager and make the changes again.
The Layer Properties Manager also seems to have a glitch where it will deselect from the manager back to the drawing without a mouse click. Also, when I click once on an external reference layer to select, it tells me I cannot modify this layer. I would assume this would pop up if it were a double click action for modification, but it does this after a single click.
It seems that there are some major glitches with the Layer Properties Manager.

Dec 19, 2013I've tried to figure out the pattern of how the command works for inputting partial customization menu toolbar names but I'm unsuccessful.
You should be able to show and hide partial customization menu toolbars with the -toolbar command because it can hide all toolbars including my partial customization menu toolbars currently shown. I've tried the toolbar menu alias (defined in the CUI command) and the name (refer to this link to the same image embedded below) and none work.

Sep 17, 2013I'm working with a DWG that already has a-gazillion VPs.
I'm currently making new layers, but the "New VP Freeze" option only seems to apply to new VPs made AFTER the creation of the layer.
I need the new layers I'm making to be Frozen retroactively, if you will, in all previously-made VPs.
Short of going into each and every VP and manually VP Freezing these few layers, what can I do?

Jan 18, 2013I'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Layer States Layer Add / Delete
Oct 4, 2013Everyone at the office where I work is having the same problem with AutoCAD 2014:
1. When creating a new layer state, and selecting all layers and clicking "remove from layer state" and then "okay", upon going back into the layer state, about 80% of the layers have returned and you have to select all and delete again and hit okay, and then go back in and do it again, about 7 or 8 times total before the layer state is cleared out and ready for you to add back just the desired layers. Even if you don't create a blank slate layer state to begin with, whatever layers you delete, once you hit okay and go back into the layer state, most of the ones you just deleted are back.
2. Even more of a problem is that sometimes all the already created layer states will suddenly reassimilate ALL layers in the drawing, and the above process has to be done to all existing layer states.
This takes an enormous amount of time to correct for multiple layer states, which we typically have in a drawing.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Layer Freeze With Structures Using Outer Part Boundary?
Mar 13, 2013I try freezing my proposed storm structures inside Viewport for Existing Conditions sheet. My proposed DI's freeze because they use a block (in structure style). My proposed headwalls use the outer part boundary from catalog. BUT both DI and Headwall Style Component Layers are set to C-STRM-STRC.
In the pic for Existing Conditions Layout, you see a white headwall boundary. In proposed layout, you see a magenta headwall boundary. It's using the Object Layer and not the component layers for the headwall.
I didn't see another way to logically set up Object Layers for Pipes and Structures that contain Existing and Proposed Water, Storm, and Sanitary. My Object Layers have Pipes set to C-UTIL-PIPE and Structures set to C-UTIL-STRC, BUT the Component Layers inside the style are specific. Example: Existing Storm Structures and Pipes have layers such as V-STRM-PIPE and V-STRM-STRC. Proposed Storm would have Component Layers such as C-STRM-PIPE and C-STRM-STRC. The Object Layer for both existing and proposed use C-UTIL-PIPE and C-UTIL-STRC.

Nov 6, 2011The ability to have the layer toolbar show what layer an object is by selecting the object in model space has ceased to function. Not sure what I did. It's not specific to the drawing either as I've tested it in other drawings as well. It's a toggle somewhere in autocad. BTW Its on my 2006 version. I own 2012 but i'm an old dog that doesn't like to learn new tricks.I just noticed that the prelection ability within autocad is shut-off. For example you select a few object and then use the copy command. The copy command does not recognize the pre-selected objects anymore. Autocad now requires me to select the object from within the command itself.

Now I want to change the background of the image, but I want the text to retain its look. Is there some way to freeze the text layer and its blending options so that I can change the background while keeping the text's look the same?

I created pull down menus and (not thinking ahead) put them all on layer 0. They come in with all the attributes they were created with, but come in on the current layer. Can I change that?
