Mar 18, 2013I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

Feb 21, 2012I have blocks that were created on one layer but inserted on another layer. So, when i turn the layer off that the blocks were inserted on they remain visible because you have to turn off the layer they were created on to have them disappear. Is there a way for me to determine what layer the blocks were created on?

Jun 18, 2013Is there a way to change the functionality of the layers so that when a new layer is created or a layer is duplicated that it automatically is created below the selected layer? I always organize my files with elements at the top of the document at the top of the layers panel and have them in decending order (unless there is a reason for an object to be above another) so that it is easier to navigate the page. Right now this means I spend a lot of time moving layers up and down which gets rather annoying. I believe I saw at one point that there is a key command for duplicating a layer below the existing one, but I can't remember how anymore. ability to make a blanket change in preferences.

Jan 18, 2013I'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012 because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.

Oct 4, 2013Everyone at the office where I work is having the same problem with AutoCAD 2014:
1. When creating a new layer state, and selecting all layers and clicking "remove from layer state" and then "okay", upon going back into the layer state, about 80% of the layers have returned and you have to select all and delete again and hit okay, and then go back in and do it again, about 7 or 8 times total before the layer state is cleared out and ready for you to add back just the desired layers. Even if you don't create a blank slate layer state to begin with, whatever layers you delete, once you hit okay and go back into the layer state, most of the ones you just deleted are back.
2. Even more of a problem is that sometimes all the already created layer states will suddenly reassimilate ALL layers in the drawing, and the above process has to be done to all existing layer states.
This takes an enormous amount of time to correct for multiple layer states, which we typically have in a drawing.

May 24, 2012I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.
case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k
case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k
Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Points Created Are On Wrong Layer
Apr 23, 2012When I create design points, they will not display until I thaw a layer that the survey points are on. I have double checked these settings: On Toolspace Settings tab, under Points-Commands-CreatePoints, Default Layer is "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Default Style is set to Point Style=SPOTS-TEMP, and Point Label Style is set to TEMP-POINT#-ELEVATION-DESCRIPTION. When I check these styles, they are both set to the layer "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Yet every point I create ends up on the layer "C-E-POINTS_FIELDWORK_11-14-11.

I am surprised I hadn't noticed until now that a site is actually an AECC_PARCEL In 2012 it comes in on the current layer. This causes some undesirable behavior. If your current layer is locked you are unable to create a site. If you later lock the layer the site is on you are prevented from changing site properties. I found it when I could not purge a layer because it contained the site.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Created P&P Sheets That Do Not Include Layer Filters?
Sep 9, 2013We have one template that we use for starting all our drawings. This contains all of our layers, layer filters and most commonly used blocks.
Then we have a template file called "Titleblocks" -- this contains one layout for each different size border as well as vport definitions for Plan, Profile or P&P.
When I used the C3D P&P tool to create my sheets, it of course used the Titleblocks template which means that the filters are lost. Is there a relatively simple way to add those filters to my sheets? Each sheet is a layout in a separate dwg file.

Jul 15, 2013I am using MAP3D 2012 and have the following query. Under Task Pane and Display Manager I have added drawing data to a drawing layer. Added Style>Text and selected the Object data I want to have displayed (e.g. drawing number).
Since the drawing is going to be accessed also by users with a simple AutoCAD version I want to copy paste the text from display Manager to a Layer In layer Properties Management.
However, every time I create a new layer and copy paste the text does not appear or carry through.

Sep 16, 2011We have a client with very strict layer name standards for AutoCAD. I have created a .txt file for locating the Revit elements on the correct layers when converting to .dwg files. The problem is the new layers created in AutoCAD during the conversion include a "3D" prefix which we then have to go in and manually eliminate. Is there any way to avoid this, it totally disagrees with the client's naming standards?

Aug 8, 2013we have a good size project going on with lots of view ports of a base map (floor plan or site plan). Then we set the viewport layers the way we would like it, but along the way, we keep getting updated base maps (floor plan or site plan) with new layer created in them. These newly created layers are for the originator and will not affect our project.
Is there a way to have our project set to ignore any newly created layer from the originator of the base files? That is, we have our project (viewport layers) set the way we want it. When we get an updated base file, replace the xref(s), our layer state will still be the same, ignoring any newly created layer, automatically. I sure hope I am clear enough here.
Our problem is that when we get a new base file, then we would have to go to every file that has a viewport related to this new base file and turn off the new layers.

Photoshop :: Relationship Between Layer Mask And Channel That Created It?
Sep 13, 2013Suppose I have carefully made a selection and saved it as a channel. I then use that channel in an adjustment layer as a mask. I also use the inverse of that channel in another adjustment layer.
At this point do I have three separate masks inside photoshop: the original channel, and two others that are layer masks? If I then see that the original mask wasn't quite right so I do a refine mask on one of the layer masks. I haven't, I think, changed the original channel, right? But I'd like to use the inverse of that channel in the other adjustment layer.
This gets pretty messy pretty fast, especially because I'm working on a very large image. After I modify the layer mask should I save it off as a separate named channel (it doesn't seem to be accessible unless the layer it's on is active) and then invert that, save it, and reload it as the layer mask for the other adjustment layer?
