I have a dwg that is converted from vectorworks with 100+ blocks of different names. All line-weight and color is set to 0.00mm and white.
I want to be able to organize multiple Block into same layer so I can color them by layer and change visibility (hide/Lock) by layer. but when I select everything to organizes "by layer" only non-block line can be organized.
Is there a way I can change multiple block into same layer without exploding them?
I try:
1. select block and change layer in properties.
Failed.
2. "set to by layer"
Problem: layer of block is still not changed when open with reference edit.

I am using C3D 2008, SP2
I am trying to change some default layer settings. I go to: Toolspace -> Settings tab -> Right click the drawing name -> Edit drawing settings -> Object layers tab. There I can set the default layers that objects are created on. I want to set "General Note Label" and "General Segment Label" to be created on what ever layer is current.

In Photoshop CS5 I created a long action list which include lots of Shapes. I saved these action sets and loaded them into CS6. and they kept failing saying they couldn't find layer "Shape 1" "Shape 2" etc . this is because in CS6 the layers are now called "Rectangle 1" "Elipse 1" etc . How can I get this to revert back to the "Shape 1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc".

By default Adobe Photoshop creates new layers on top of the current layer. In the Western languages we read from top to bottom and left to right. So when I start creating a web site in Photoshop I start from top to bottom as well. However Photoshop creates the new layer above the current, which is the opposite of what I would like to do. I need Photoshop to create new layers below the current layer. I know by holding CTRL/COMMAND and clicking the NEW LAYER icon, will do what I need. However if I do CTRL+J to jump/duplicate the current layer, or select a layer and ALT+DRAG again to duplicate it, again it puts the new layers in top. Is there a way to reverse the default order Photoshop places layers? If not, I suggest that to Adobe implement an option in the general settings for Photoshop. Flash for example had similar option to read/place layers from top to bottom or bottom to top.

I am creating a new block that includes text, lines and a solid object. The block is creating properly, however, the linework is behind the solid object.
How do I control the draworder of the items in the block?
Is there a way to set the order before I create the block, OR do I have to modify the block after I have created it?

Our office created a library of blocks for use in our dwgs in the early days of Autocad. Since installing MEP2013 when inserting the blocks many of them have mysteriously changed from inches to millimeter units. We have to go back to each block(dwg) and change the units and rescale the blocks. We upgraded from MEP2012 and they were working fine.

I created a library of Dynamic cabinets in AutoCAD LT 2013. I have tested them and used them in drawings. I just upgraded to 2104 and when I insert those same dynamic blocks into a drawing, the parameters do not show and i can not use the dynamic block as intended. when I click on it...tons ot grips show up and no parameters.

I recently updated our CAD Library to dynamic blocks. In the process of updating our drawings, we realized that we could not use BLOCKREPLACE to replace dynamic blocks with another dynamic block (with new name) once the dynamic element has been changed. I realize that this changes the state of the block and anonymous block names are created.
I need a simple solution so that members of my group can easily replace dynamic blocks with new dynamic blocks.

Is there a way to change the default attributes "POINT, ELEV, DESC" to a different setup/style? (E.G., the point label style from the point which the block originated from?).

I'm aware of the intricacies of layer zero, and the general rule-of-thumb to draw content inside of blocks on 0 so that the block takes on the properties of the layer it is inserted onto, can be isolated, etc.
I generally follow this rule, and where required, I change the line color inside of the block when I want to maintain a certain lineweight. (lineweights based on my plot settings for colors). My dilema is that i've got an intricate block. I'd like to be able to manipulate this block in a way that you'd isolate layers and change their properties. Is there any way to isolate a portion of lines inside of a block while still maintaining them either on layer zero or another (magical) sort of "transparent" layer?
As an example, i'll use the classic "existing", "proposed" door block. i'll draw the door, swing, and jamb all on layer zero. I will set the the swing portion red and dashed so that both existing and proposed swings appear the same. the door itself will then take on the properties of my existing and proposed door layers, respectively. Now say i'd like to edit my block. I want to isolate the swing portion and color it by layer. (obviously the example is lacking here since it would be easiest to just click on the arc) Can i group items inside of a block, or better yet, can i create a second layer and somehow edit the layer's properties so it is "dynamic", "transparent", or "magical" like layer 0?

Is there a way to change the functionality of the layers so that when a new layer is created or a layer is duplicated that it automatically is created below the selected layer? I always organize my files with elements at the top of the document at the top of the layers panel and have them in decending order (unless there is a reason for an object to be above another) so that it is easier to navigate the page. Right now this means I spend a lot of time moving layers up and down which gets rather annoying. I believe I saw at one point that there is a key command for duplicating a layer below the existing one, but I can't remember how anymore. ability to make a blanket change in preferences.

When I create design points, they will not display until I thaw a layer that the survey points are on. I have double checked these settings: On Toolspace Settings tab, under Points-Commands-CreatePoints, Default Layer is "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Default Style is set to Point Style=SPOTS-TEMP, and Point Label Style is set to TEMP-POINT#-ELEVATION-DESCRIPTION. When I check these styles, they are both set to the layer "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Yet every point I create ends up on the layer "C-E-POINTS_FIELDWORK_11-14-11.

Is there a way to control what layer a site is created on?
I am surprised I hadn't noticed until now that a site is actually an AECC_PARCEL In 2012 it comes in on the current layer. This causes some undesirable behavior. If your current layer is locked you are unable to create a site. If you later lock the layer the site is on you are prevented from changing site properties. I found it when I could not purge a layer because it contained the site.

We have one template that we use for starting all our drawings. This contains all of our layers, layer filters and most commonly used blocks.
Then we have a template file called "Titleblocks" -- this contains one layout for each different size border as well as vport definitions for Plan, Profile or P&P.
When I used the C3D P&P tool to create my sheets, it of course used the Titleblocks template which means that the filters are lost. Is there a relatively simple way to add those filters to my sheets? Each sheet is a layout in a separate dwg file.

I am using MAP3D 2012 and have the following query. Under Task Pane and Display Manager I have added drawing data to a drawing layer. Added Style>Text and selected the Object data I want to have displayed (e.g. drawing number).
Since the drawing is going to be accessed also by users with a simple AutoCAD version I want to copy paste the text from display Manager to a Layer In layer Properties Management.
However, every time I create a new layer and copy paste the text does not appear or carry through.

We have a client with very strict layer name standards for AutoCAD. I have created a .txt file for locating the Revit elements on the correct layers when converting to .dwg files. The problem is the new layers created in AutoCAD during the conversion include a "3D" prefix which we then have to go in and manually eliminate. Is there any way to avoid this, it totally disagrees with the client's naming standards?

I'm having a bit of a problem struggling with creating new dimension style using vee bee dot net, in AutoCAD 2010 environment. I am particularly trying to figure out how to set the newly created dimension style to color white, and to assign it a specific layer (for example, a layer called "test"). What the code syntax is to accomplish this?
I post the code below for what I have done thus far:
Public Shared Sub addDimensionStyle(ByVal strDimStyle As String)
Dim acDb As Database = HostApplicationServices.WorkingDatabase
Using acTrans As Transaction = acDb.TransactionManager.StartTransaction()
Dim dimTbl As DimStyleTable = acDb.DimStyleTableId.GetObject(OpenMode.ForWrite)
Dim dimTblRec As DimStyleTableRecord = Nothing
[Code] ........

So, when i turn the layer off that the blocks were inserted on they remain visible because you have to turn off the layer they were created on to have them disappear. we have a good size project going on with lots of view ports of a base map (floor plan or site plan). Then we set the viewport layers the way we would like it, but along the way, we keep getting updated base maps (floor plan or site plan) with new layer created in them. These newly created layers are for the originator and will not affect our project.
Is there a way to have our project set to ignore any newly created layer from the originator of the base files? That is, we have our project (viewport layers) set the way we want it. When we get an updated base file, replace the xref(s), our layer state will still be the same, ignoring any newly created layer, automatically. I sure hope I am clear enough here.
Our problem is that when we get a new base file, then we would have to go to every file that has a viewport related to this new base file and turn off the new layers.

What is the general feeling about building blocks on layer 0 then using the layer controls to change the colors etc. after they are dropped into a particular layer?
In other words, I like to build a block labled "sample location" on layer 0 then depending on the layer it is placed in, it can be either red or blue (based on the test results).
I print out my drawings on letter sized paper in color.
Most of the time, my background image is a monochrome or greyscale tiff or a jpeg of a scanned in drawing.
Sometimes I will get a nice cad file to work with. with these drawings, I turn off all the extraneous layers that i don't need, and reset the layer colors to black and white. Often, though, the doors and windows are blocks on separate layers that I have to then modify to change the colors.
