I am using C3D 2008, SP2
I am trying to change some default layer settings. I go to: Toolspace -> Settings tab -> Right click the drawing name -> Edit drawing settings -> Object layers tab. There I can set the default layers that objects are created on. I want to set "General Note Label" and "General Segment Label" to be created on what ever layer is current.
I am using Description Keys for all my points that I bring in from surveying in the field. Any point that does not have a specific descriptor key ends up on a specific layer with a specific style that I cannot figure where to set. I have gone through my point default settings as stated in other postings but all seem to be set correctly mostly to <none>. I have gone through my Point Group settings without finding the culprit either. I can easily change the settings as I only have a few points that do this but I want to find the issue.

For some reason regardless of what I save or the fact that I've saved the template files, everytime I open a new file it automatically adds shadows and applies perspective view. This is extremely annoying. How do I alter the default settings to be ortho with no shadows?

I have done this before but I cannot remember how. An example of what I am trying to say is in the Drawing1 that opens when you start CAD, it does not have a layer called TOPO. I want to have it so that everytime I have a new drawing1 open, it automatically has the TOPO layer in it. I know that you can do this by changing the file it references in the C drive, but I forgot how I did it.
I am using Map 3D 2010/Civil 3D2010/AutoCad 2010. Is there a way to change the default settings in the Map Import dialog box? I want to "Create Object Data" and "Import Polygons as Closed Polylines" with every shp file I import. It would be nice if I could have these parameters selected by default instead of having to check them both with every shp file I import. Is this possible?

If you go to "Blending Options" in PS and click on "Outer Glow/Inner Glow/Drop Shadow/....etc" You will see that these options have already some colors as default, means Drop shadow has black color as default and inner glow and outer glow has yellow as default.
I wanted to change these default colors to something else. Like I want to change the YELLOW color of outer and inner glow to WHITE color. Is it possible?

I am trying to change the default setting for "Pipe Flow Direction Method" currently it is set to "start to end" but I would like it to be "by slope". I have to assume there is a way to do this, I have tried everything i can think of.

I created pipe and structure settings, as well as the labels associated with them. I did this by going to each setting and revising the default “standard” setting to our company standards and saving it with another name. All the “standard” settings I changed were geared toward displaying the pipes and structures as existing sanitary features. I decided shortly afterwards that it would be better to have it set up so that when I want to lay out a new network, it will, by default, display the pipes and structures as proposed storm services. Existing sanitary pipe networks would display as light lines while proposed storm networks display as bolder lines with hatch.
I therefore went into “commands” and overrode all the default settings (the existing sanitary settings created from the “standard” settings) with the settings I created for the proposed storm. When I created a new pipe network and began laying out structures and pipes, they displayed as per the existing sanitary settings I created, not as per the proposed storm settings.
I then went to the pipe style and structure style, chose the settings I created for the existing sanitary, right clicked and chose “replace with” and picked the settings for the proposed storm. I again tried to lay out a pipe network but the structures and pipes again displayed as per the existing sanitary settings. How do I get the software to, by default, display the structures and pipes as per the settings I created for proposed storm and not existing sanitary?
I like to use .001 for nudge and 20 for super nudge, so every time I open a new file I need to change it from the default settings of .1 and 2. I've always wondered if I could set my own defaults and it occurred to me to ask on the forum. I can't find it anywhere on the options menu..

I have been using Paint.net for quite awhile now and like it very much. There is one thing I would like to see, it would make using Paint.net easier. Right now the default setting for saving is PNG. Unfortunately I do not use PNG, the universal setting for just about anything is JPEG. Is there a way to change the default setting from PNG to JPEG? I downloaded and installed the latest versio, 3.5.10 but it made no differense. I have been unable to find anything about this in the drop down menus.

I found out that if I uncheck the "Embed Color profile" it exports correctly with exact color codes as in Corel. However, sometimes I have found out that I have forgotten to uncheck that little box..

Every time I open Xara I have to change the default settings under "Utilities", "Options", "Units" from inches to pixels. There are other default settings I'd like to change as well, but my question is how do I change those settings to default so that when I open Xara, I don't have to go reset them? This is a PITA! View 7 Replies View RelatedWalls are being created on layer A-Wall, in color Cyan, Lineweight .020, etc. I'd like to edit those layer properties. There must be a matrix somewhere that shows a list of all of the Architectural Objects, the layer that each object will be created on, and the properties of those layers. Where in ACA2008 have they hidden this top-secret matrix? I've accessed Layer Key Styles via about 6 different routes, and nowhere do I find a list of Objects. I see that I could define an override for every component of a Wall object in the Style Manager / Display Properties, but it sure would be easier to just change the layer color once, wherever that's defined. There is only one Layer Key Style accessible through Style Manager, and layer A-Wall doesn't appear in that manager- layers A-Wall-Abov, A-Wall-Blow, etc appear, but not A-Wall. Neither does layer A-Glaz, which is where Window objects are placed.
How does a Wall object know to place itself on layer A-Wall, and where are the properties of layer A-Wall defined?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a file where the layer manager does not seam to be contorling the bylayer color settings. When I change the color in the layer manager everything seams to work fine. But when I try to creat objects on this layer they we not use the color that I set. They use the original color that the layer was set to. In the ribbon the color default is set to by layer. One interesting thing is that when I pull down the layer menu in the ribbon it will show the old color.
In fact the work around is to change the layer color from this menu and not the layer manager. This is the only drawing I have that exhibits this behavior. Any system variable that would cause this or is this just a coruption of this file. (I ran audit, closed autcad and restarted, verified that all objects are set to manage colors bylayer, default ribbon palets are set to bylayer).

I am having problems plotting out parcels and creating label settings. I think I am missing an important concept in the object and display tab of setting creation. I am not finding going through the documentation. What I have found is not well explained.
I started with the OOB alignment settings. I noted that the Basic setting has a description that states the object will take on the settings of the layer it is created on.
I noted that if I adjusted the alignment properities to "Basic". I could then move the 'roadway' alignments to P-RD-CL and the swale alignments to P-SWALE-CL. Freezing the P-SWALE-CL then turns off the swale CL's, but keeps the roadway ones on.
I am looking for a fast way to determine which styles this works for or the area of the documentation that better explains how this works.
I am starting to explore creating label styles the same way. That way I can double or triple label pipe networks such that identical styles are labeled on an E&S layer and a PCSM layer and the individual lables can be dragged on the two different sheet layouts in the same file to avoid text over writes.
I have a Base.dwg where I xref-Attach a Proposed.dwg file into. I changed the Color=gray and Plot Style=Existing of the Proposed xref in the Base. Visretain=1.
I now create a Sheet.dwg and xref Base into it (and Proposed comes along too). The settings for Proposed are not what I have set in the Base file, they are what's in the original Proposed file.
Can I get these settings to come through? I cannot go into the original Proposed file and change settings.

Any way to change the setting in Object Viewer that will let you orbit around the cursor instead of the center of the screen? In object viwer, orbit is only constrained around the middle of the screen. To me, it would make sense to have it rotate around the cursor like in model space.
