In Photoshop CS5 I created a long action list which include lots of Shapes. I saved these action sets and loaded them into CS6. and they kept failing saying they couldn't find layer "Shape 1" "Shape 2" etc . this is because in CS6 the layers are now called "Rectangle 1" "Elipse 1" etc .  How can I get this to revert back to the "Shape 1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc".
View 6 RepliesI'm using Photoshop CS6 tonight and I'm getting some weird behavior. The thumbs for Shape Layers in the Layers panel sometimes look right, other times they collapse into a tiny square.
if something is wrong. In the photo above, the "HERO" layer is how I expect a Shape Layer to appear. However, the "TOP BANNER" layer is the SAME THING. But for some reason the thumb has become tiny. I'm scratching my head trying to figure out if this is normal for some reason or what
I am working on a new subdivision where we made new property lines through an existing property. Is there a way to find out the bearings of the new lines made? The only way I can think to find this information is to dimension the angle and subtract it to get the new bearings.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
What is the correct way to save photoshop actions that I have created? I currently save them by selecting the folder and then 'Save Actions' from the dropdown.

For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.

This renders the image in LR and then opens it in photoshop, which is fine, how it flattens the image to a locked "Background" named layer. I'd much prefer the file name to be with the document in Photoshop.

Mostly because having file names is important for retouching or various other types of compositing.
When you open mulitple files into Layers from LR, each layer retains the file name.

View 3 Replies View Related I've used E- for Existing and P- for Proposed for my layers and/or style names. For Object Layers, I've used OBJ- with modifiers and set the layers inside the styles to 0. This works ok, and Civil 3D objects obviously stand out and are easily isolated thru layiso and such, BUT having styles set to 0 presents a problem when dumbing down a drawing to send to another firm. The C3D Objects that are dumbed down are on layer 0 which isn't good.
We're generating a new template for 2013 and want to gear it towards the National Cad Standards on some level and do away with 0 as the style layer and actually have the style layers set to something other than 0.
My initial thoughts from a simplistic standpoint are:
V- for Survey and Existing features
C- for Proposed features
I understand there's many more designators. We mainly do Civil and Utility work.I know V is a designator for Survey but can it cover and should it cover existing features too that aren't surveyed, for example if we receive mapping from someone and want to reassign some layer names? Is C- strictly for Proposed/Design work?
I'm reviewing a template we're working with someone on and they assigned the layers inside an Existing Surface Style to C-Topo-Majr and C-Topo-Minr. They assigned the layers inside the Proposed Surface Style to C-Topo-Majr-N and C-Topo-Minr-N. The only difference is the N for New, between the style layers.
Shouldn't the Existing Surface Style layers start with V-?Just trying to get some feedback on a simplistic approach to Layer naming and keeping with the National Cad Standards on some level.
In Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!

This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).
Is there a way to change the functionality of the layers so that when a new layer is created or a layer is duplicated that it automatically is created below the selected layer? I always organize my files with elements at the top of the document at the top of the layers panel and have them in decending order (unless there is a reason for an object to be above another) so that it is easier to navigate the page. Right now this means I spend a lot of time moving layers up and down which gets rather annoying. I believe I saw at one point that there is a key command for duplicating a layer below the existing one, but I can't remember how anymore. ability to make a blanket change in preferences.

For all custom libraries I can create file names as I want except profile libraries.
The profile library create file name using Family Name + Stock Number and I did not find the
way to change it. I cannot get rid of that Stock Number in family name in this and other profile libraries. I wish I can use Part Number instead of Stock number in naming as more informative.
To change the file naming I do the following:
Manage - Editor - chose Library - chose family - Family Table - File Naming -
than chose required parameters to be shown as file name (for instance I have
{PARTNUMBER}), than in Map to Inventor Property: - Member.Display.Name
than OKÂ - Refresh - Done.
All custom libraries obeys the file name changing EXCEPT the profile library.

When I make a part in Frame Generator, by default it will name the part a big lengthy name like "frame 000001 etc etc". Is there any way that I can change the default naming system and include parameters in the name (the parameters is not necessary, but would be useful).
ALSO, if I name 2 parts the same name will it show up as "QTY 2" in my parts list?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to use the actions panel to edit a large number of product shots quickly. I have disabled the generator, which was a possible solution I saw in another post, closed my photoshop, opened it up again and tried it on a new file.
None of my adjustment layers do what I set them out to do, but they do show up as layers in my layers panel. The only part of the action that works is my smart sharpen. I created the actions in CC and I don't know where to go next.
I've just 'upgraded' to CC, and noticed that actions that alter Curves or levels adjustment layers do not play back correctly.
The Action itself contains the right steps but nothing happens to the adjustment or the image.
I have a mac 10.7
Some of my actions in CS5 all of a sudden stopped working.  Some work, but the ones I use most frequently are not working at all. I have re-booted my computer, turned it completely off/on, re-installed the actions and the same ones aren't working. The action will run, but the brush will not work. For instance, an action called Flawless Face will run, but doesn't actually do anything when I go to "brush" the face.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a web site I would like to use, purchased it from someone who assured me all that I needed to do was "tweek it" to my clients taste. I am now having difficulties trying to put my clients images into the template. The mask which is on the layer is fine, what I would really like to do is to import or whatever it takes to get my client's picture in place of the template picture. I do understand there are layers, and that I need to be on the correct layer to make the change... my problem is that all I want to do is to drop my clients picture onto the layer instead of the template picture. My alternative was to attempt to recreate all the template web site in my own layers... but, that defeats the purpose of buying the template.

I need the text to be a mask and I need it to be editable as text. Don't know if this is possible, experimented with clipping masks but I cant make it work.
When I create a shape in Photoshop CS6, it brings up a nice panel of options - allowing me to change radius, stroke style, colour etc. However, once this shape has been placed in the Photoshop document, I am not able to edit it, without creating a new shape.
I cannot change any of the options. Sure, I can select it and change the size - but how would I change the shape stroke colour and style, as well as the radius of the curves?Is there an option or panel which I need to activate to get back to this menu for the current shape?
Here the shape options are visibleHowever, once I click off the shape - they dissapear and I can no longer get them back.

How can I select a shape on a layer in PSD in the layers palette?
In my past version of PSD, I was able to simply click on the Layer and hold either select or control to have marching ants go around my image - but with CS2 I am not able to do that.
I am stumbling through the lessons and am stuck on Lesson #1.For those who do not know, it is to model a helmet similar to a dirt bike helmet. I have created a smoothed poly, removed much of it to create the top portion of the helmet (or cap).
I have created a poly shape using the Mesh >> Create Poly command. I have extruded said poly 3 times to shape the front facial guard.
The next step tells me to use the bridge border edges command. My problem is only my "cap" is showing a border edge. The facial shield poly has no border and I cant figure out why?
I have tried Display >> Polygons >> Border Edges and it doesn't make a difference on the facial shield.how do i view the border edges on said poly?
I created some shape with line tool and added extrude modifier to it. After being converted to editable poly I want edges to be slightly softer. But turbo smooth creates a big mess. Swift loop won't work. Is it because sides are single polygons? Is there an easy way to add edges inside them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using PS CS4 and I've been using actions for years now. However, about a year or two ago they started acting oddly. All my custom actions follow a similar flow: open file, size file, make transparent, add layer style, export to PNG, and, finally, close the file.

Once upon a time, the last time I recall it working flawlessly was in CS 2, I had to do nothing other than start the action on a directory of files. Now I have to click OK when the Layer Styles window pops up. Here is the exported action file. After clicking on a directory that may contain up to a 1,000 files; it gets tiresome and finger sore.
Can't seem to get "Layer > Rename layer ..." to activate with Actions, whether I try "Insert Menu Item" or "Record Action".I have created and used many actions over the years in Photoshop, and almost all of them seem to work fine in Photoshop CS6, except this one.In CS5.x the command was listed as "Layer Properties...", which brought up the DIALOG.

In CS 6.x that command has been removed from the LAYER PALETTE MENU. Instead, the COMMAND has been renamed "Rename Layer..." in the MAIN MENU, and it no longer brings up a DIALOG. Editing is now done directly in the LAYER NAME TEXT FIELD and it was clear that the old ACTION can't work as-is.

with the ART LAYER visible and selected I clicked RECORD I selected and again.This time the ART LAYER activated properly .I changed the LAYER NAME and hit RETURN.In the ACTIONS PALETTE, the SET CURRENT LAYER ACTION was automatically added.I know I don't want "123" to be the LAYER NAME, but I thought I could manually edit the ACTION by adding a DIALOG BOX control.I clicked STOP to try out the KEY COMMANDI manually changed the LAYER NAME back to and hit RETURN to set it.I ran the ACTION by typing CMD-SHFT-F9As expected it dutifully edited the LAYER NAME Now I wanted to intercept the renaming step, so I ticked the DIALOG BOX option in the ACTION thinking it would give me some method of keying in a name during PLAYBACK.The first few times I ran the ACTION SCRIPT, it brought up the LAYER STYLE dialog. What?I thought something might be amiss with my FUNCTION KEYS, so I checked my KEYBOARD settings in SYSTEM PREFERENCES.This option was originally ON.so I UNCHECKED it OFF and closed SYSTEM PREFS.Back in PS it didn't seem to make a difference, so I thought maybe I needed to RESTART to activate this level of SYSTEM PREFERENCE.I RESTARTED, double-checked that the FUNCTION KEY OPTION was UNCHECKED, and tried the ACTION again.Now the ACTION didn't run at all, so I knew the FUNCTION KEY OPTION was supposed to remain CHECKED.I RECHECKED it, RESTARTED, and returned to PHOTOSHOP.When I ran the ACTION this time, the LAYER STYLE dialog DID NOT come up. In the end, I played with inserting a STOP or CONDITIONAL, I tried PLAYBACK OPTIONS, I inserted other random COMMANDS and played with reordering them. Everything works perfectly, but I simply can't seem to gain control over editing the LAYER NAME itself with an ACTION. I assume the root of the problem is that there is no longer a DIALOG BOX that controls the LAYER NAME, and therefore there's no moment in PLAYBACK that can give me DIALOG BOX control over the name.
