Maya Modeling :: Created A Polygone Shape Using Mesh
Dec 12, 2011
I am stumbling through the lessons and am stuck on Lesson #1.For those who do not know, it is to model a helmet similar to a dirt bike helmet. I have created a smoothed poly, removed much of it to create the top portion of the helmet (or cap).
I have created a poly shape using the Mesh >> Create Poly command. I have extruded said poly 3 times to shape the front facial guard.
The next step tells me to use the bridge border edges command. My problem is only my "cap" is showing a border edge. The facial shield poly has no border and I cant figure out why?
I have tried Display >> Polygons >> Border Edges and it doesn't make a difference on the facial shield.how do i view the border edges on said poly?
When I go to edit mesh on a brand new hedra and take two points and scale them, the sides are uneven, one side isn't scaling properly. It looks to be the one with the square edge. Here's a video.
from what I understand, mesh cleanup fixes problems with bad geometry. but is there a function by which I can delete all edgeloops in a mesh that don't contribute to the shape? so Maya turns the mesh into as low rez as possible while retaining the shape....
I bought a 3d mesh model of a chair I want to make out of wood. To do this I want to use Maya to create 2D slices of the mesh model that I can use as templates for my woodwork.
The model looks great in Maya, but how to create these slices or 2D views and print them.
Is there any way for editing more then one meshes at a time? For example: I want to extrude, bevel, connect components of my two cubes at the same time.
I've just extruded a face. I realize I need make a slight adjustment. I don't want to undo the extrudtion nor do I want do an Edit Mesh to create a new extrusion. Is there an easy way to readjust an extrudtion?
I need merge many objects in one for export to fbx. If I delete any of polySurface objects, mesh lowpolyHouse crushes. If I stay it, than it all export to fbx file, problem is that I need mesh object only.
I am using maya 2011. I have a simple roof, which i extracted faces from the small house (see pic1). However, when i smooth the roof, all the extracted faces went smooth individually (see pic2). How can i combine all those individual faces i extruded, to make into a single mesh or polygon, so that when i press 3, it will smooth like as in pic3 rather than individually.
I do sometimes buy some objects at Turbosquid that I download as .obj files.
They are represented as a single mesh object in Maya, however when I look the material of this mesh, I see different tabs representing the different sections of the mesh with the different materials (e.g. a duck would be seen as 1 mesh, but 1 material for the body, 1 for the left eye and 1 for the right eye).
How to split up this mesh in different meshes by material ?
I'm using Maya 2013 and I can't find "Edit Mesh" at the top of the window. I've found this page (
[URL]......
but it refers to Maya 2012. The second problem is:
I'm trying to put an image on the cylinder-surface. I've found a youtube-video (added bellow) which says I have to click on "Cylindrical Mapping" after making a "blinn2" (and so on).
But when I click on "Cylindrical Mapping" nothing happens. There isn't even an error message.
I'm physiotherapist and researcher interested in human body posture analysis. Goal of my researches are to make 3d digital model of human posture. Right now I'm using Microsoft kinect to build a human body model, but it's difficult to do automatic analysis on that mesh. In our team we create an algorithm which analysis posture, right now we base on points located on the body, for that is necessary to manually locate that point's which is inaccurate and time consuming. Our idea is to use divide human body into segments and then fit in those segments some geometry figures ( cylinders , bal, ), next step is to calculate center of masses of those figures, so we simplify the posture to 20-40 points , and calculation of those points can be made automatic.
So I am trying to use "fill hole" for this empty space on my mesh but it isn't working. I know I can figure out another solution to this problem but I want to know why it won't work.
First of all, when I double click the edge around the hole it doesn't just select the hole, it selects a huge ring that goes around the whole head for some reason (I'm attaching a picture).
Then when I select the edges around the hole one by one and select "fill hole" nothing happens and I get a message at the bottom of the screen that says "polycloseborder2" (I am also including a pic of this).
I have been working on a head model on and off for a couple of days to practice extrusion methods, I have been working with smooth shade. When I went back to it yesterday I came across this problem - Anytime I went to extrude/bride/append/soften normals etc my model the part I was extruding would turn to wire frame and an unrelated part of the head would change to wire frame also. I am mirroring the mesh down the middle; sometimes the mirrored half is changed to wire frame also, sometimes not.
As I didn't know how to fix the issue I reverted to an earlier save I had made before the affected areas had been built up. Now I have nearly finished getting back to the same point I was at yesterday I'm coming across the same problem.
I have problem when i duplicate polygon another side of model. The object is not smooth, it look like different model. I try to "combine" and "mesh" vertex from middle of object. but it still same. The polygon will smooth if i use "smooth tool". But i need low polygon for transfer map from high polygon to low polygon. but it not work, because low polygon look like different model.
I need smooth low polygon, but not to much smooth. I need only when i duplicate polygon, it not look like different model is okay.
I have a mesh that is made up of all quads and is a pretty dense object. I need to reduce the number of faces so can make it easier to work with and edit.
Whenever i use the reduce tool it takes my mesh that is all quads and distorts it to create a mesh that looks like the second picture above. How can i reduce my face or poly count without distorting my mesh so badly and keep only quads.
I often create animations for technology companies, and they give me models that were created in programs like alias, rhino, AutoCAD, or solid works. They export for me in IGES, or STEP, and the models, while amazingly intricate, are too much for Maya on my 24GB RAM 12-core machine to take. They take upwards of 20 minutes just to open.
I want to convert these to ploys and generally make them easier to work with. What are my options for making these manageable, and still look good when they render. The flat edges and services are fairly easy to convert, it's the rounded bevels that don't look so good if I convert everything to Polys all at once. And there are usually hundreds of curved surfaces to convert, so doing them one at a time is far too cumbersome to be effective.
Also, how would I go about taking surfaces for objects in joining them together to create a complete object made of Polys? For example, a small part may be made of 35 difference parametric surfaces in solid works, and exports as that in IGES, so when I imported into Maya, it really should be just one object made of Polys.
need to convert parametric cad objects to poly to make them manageable and to make renders faster.
I am a newbie, and doing the helmet tutorial. It is asking me to go to the edit mesh menu and select the split polygon tool. It isn't there. where is it.
I have traced out this piece of geometry using CV curve and then used loft to convert the Curves into actual geometry. I need to have one solid piece of geometry to project an image onto, how can I convert this to one solid piece? I have attached my .mb file.horro_chair.mb.zip
I have run into an issue relating to the differences in the way Mudbox and Maya subdivide meshes. My workflow for creating blend shapes is as follows:
1. Create base head mesh in Maya 2. Import base head mesh into Mudbox and subdivide to level 2 3. Create a Mudbox layer on top of base head mesh to sculpt each blend shape (e.g., browsMidUp) 4. For each blend shape, export the level 0 mesh to Maya for use as a blend shape on the base head mesh
Here is where it all falls apart.
When I smooth the blend shape in Maya (either by choosing smooth preview or by selecting Mesh>Smooth), the smoothed mesh in Maya differs from that in Mudbox. In the case of browsMidUp, the blend shape created in Mudbox only modified the brows. However, in Maya when the blend shape is smoothed the mouth opens up (i.e., the lips smooth differently in Maya than Mudbox, causing the mouth to open).
This is incredibly frustrating because I did not discover this problem until after I created approximately 35 blend shapes in Mudbox!I believe I can work around my current error. However, I would like to know how others approach the creation of blend shapes.Do you use Mudbox? If so, how do prevent issues associated with smoothing differences?
How to create such object (cell model) in Maya? Do I need to use a special script or is there any method to align small balls along the surface of a big ball (or other shape)?
I thought they were supposed to appear when the Polygon shelf is selected? I don't see them. In fact, when I select different shelves the menu items on the right half of the task bar don't change at all. Is this normal?
I have a problem when I am modeling my character or rather the character from the animation academy. I have created an NURBS sphere and I want to adjust it to the arm, so I go to the component mode add some isosparms and then it happens!!! I can´t move any vertexes... but in the object mode I can move the hole object.
The best that work out was giving it a path constrain to a sphere changing to a rectangle and making some snapshot which it does not give me the specific control I need.
See image to see what I am trying to model, image is from NADAA, and am trying to do something similar to this but I can't.
Is there an easy ways to clean up a mesh so that its easy to skin ? i am working with the mvu default mesh. someone told i have to remake my own body then redo the uvw map to match. Unfortunately i don't have the skills to do that currently.
My end goal is to increase the poly count so that my clothing look smooth and still be able to skin it easily. Mesh smooth just causes more problems.
I have recieved an dwg file with the hight infomations of a valley. My task is to convert these splinelines into a mesh so we have a model that can be populated with trees. Is there an easier way beside pulling it out by hand?
I'm missing a shrink tool or modifier which can shrink a mesh. I don't want to scale it down because it's preserving the proportions but that is not what I propose to do.
The Shell modifier for example extrudes the polygons along their local normals. This in reverse I'm trying to do.
Think about a banana and you will get a copy of it in a smaller and thinner way because you have modelled the shell of the banana but not the flesh in it. I think that explains the difference between shrinking and scaling.
I would like to move two different vertex, from different mesh, at the same place. I thought maybe I could put a guide or a landmark to the position I want the vertexes to be. I can't find anything about guides in 3ds max
