AutoCad :: How To Change Distance Between Array Elements Smarter
Jul 29, 2012
Attached file shows a book cabinet. After manipulating the depth (32 cm) for many times, still I haven't got the ideal depth. Manipulating the distance is time consuming and I am looking for a smarter way to do it.
Changing the depth is cumbersome for me, as I act in the traditional way. Let say if I want to change the depth of all shelves to 34, I choose 7 shelves from bottom, move all 2 cm down. In the next step I choose 6 shelves from bottom and move them 2 cm down and repeat until I reach the bottom.
In order to draw them, first: I use rectangle not lines which has some shortfalls, second: I use array command to copy them down.
This is not a smart way and I think there must be a better way. Although a LISP routine will solve it very easily, but I prefer a non-LISP solution.

I'm trying to create an animated array with an offset on the distance between objects.e.g You have ten spheres, and when you a controller dummy they all move in one direction (e.g. to the left), but each sphere moves progressively further away from the last one - like an array with an offset.

I am currently working on a Stream Restoration project and am really struggling to find a flexible solution for modelling natural river corridors.
My Landscape Architect has provided me with a set of 2d-Polylines representing the proposed river alignment as well as some embankment lines. (Spline.jpg)
My first attempt was to create a corridor with a cross-section consisting of some generic links targeting my polylines. see attachment (Corridor.jpg). Obviously it results in a total mess. So I tried splitting the corridor in multiple sub-corridors targeting different lines as suggested by Dana Probert in her class on Stream Restoration. (Corridor1.jpg) However, given the curvature of these lines, the corridor simply never works as expected.
Question #1: is there any way to create a ‘smart subassembly’ which would prevent those bowties? Ideally I’d like it to be able to connect to subsequent vertices of the targeted line. Maybe the subassembly composer is capable of doing such magic tricks?
Since the corridor approach didn’t work I tried adding the Polylines as breaklines to a surface without any other definition. To assign some elevation data I converted them to Feature Lines. The original 2d-Polylines have been set to Fit -> Quadratic though and Civil 3d just refuses to accept them as they are. So I’d go splineedit -> convert to spline and then Flatten to convert them to Polylines back again.
This way I can convert my Polylines to Feature Lines, assign elevations in the elevation editor and add them to an empty surface. After playing around with the mid-ordinate distance and interpolation values I end up with something usable but difficult to manage (Surface feature line.jpg). The Flatten command converts my beautiful splines to a set of interconnected lines and arcs, which aren’t that easy to control. And for all this effort the resulting surface isn’t as smooth as expected (Object viewer.jpg).
Question #2: is there a way to convert splines to feature lines, or better yet – add splines as breaklines to a surface and derive their elevation from a profile?
My current solution to this problem is converting the 2d-Polylines to splines, and then back to Polylines via Splineedit. This way I get a Polyline with tons of straight but short segments. I convert them to feature lines, assign elevations and add as breaklines to the surface definition. The resulting surface is super smooth. It just isn’t easy to modify because of the amount of vertices that have to be moved to do any adjustments.
Question #3: Do you know of any better ways to approach this subject? All of the methods I’ve tried would have worked perfectly with a simple corridor. It’s the curvature that renders them useless.

Im a user of Autocad 2012 but in the new array command of autocad 2012 , when a block is arrayed the entire array acts as one unit and all the objects in it move together . This can be changed by exploding the arrayed objects and i can move the objects individually but when this is done my block properties are lost...Auto cad renames this block and no longer identifies as my old block.
How can i retain my block properties whilst using the array command in autocad 2012!

is there a way to change the way distance is measured in a drawing from fractional to decimal? I get drawings that always display dimensions in fractions and being an engineer not a carpenter I need dimensions to be decimal so I am not forced to look up what the decimal equivalent of a fraction is all the time. I am amazed that AC doesn't force me to input dimensions as fractions on these drawings.
This is another one of those options that appears to be hidden but should be available in a real page setup option or in the options. Unlike the current page setup which seems to be a print setup instead. I love hidden options, like when I made the mistake of changing the default fractional style that I am now stuck with. I love being caught between 2 bad options. Either I have to put up with being asked constantly if I want to change how fractions are displayed or I can't change the default ever again.

I'm trying to use the PATH array feature on 2013 to array stairs, and I can't get the array to be 100% accurate. It seems like CAD rounds the decimal to the nearest 3/4" which could be causing the problem.
I set my run to 10.5" and rise to 7.25", array along the angle of the stringer, and there's always a small overlap on the stairs. The "distance between" should be 1'-209/256" and CAD rounds it to 1'-3/4" which is where I believe the error is. Is there any way to fix this or array this correctly? Otherwise...back to the COPY method I suppose.

I am not sure what is wrong .. but i heard parallel and perspective view could make a difference .. i actually try both :/ ...

Photoshop CS5 (maybe CS6 too ?)
From the "Adjustments" panel I often use a preset Adjustment Layer (I've saved some of my own in here).
I click on the preset adjustment layer I want and it appears in the Layers panel with a generic name Curves [X] or Levels [Y] or whatever. How many times have I had to type in the preset’s name, the name which is already in the preset list (rhetorical question - loads).
Here's an example:
I insert a single preset layer into the Layers panel. In the preset list it already has the name "Compensation for Printing"; when it arrives in the Layers panel it is given a default name Curves [X]. I then have to type it's name "Compensation for Printing" into the Layers panel. It would be more useful, and time saving if, instead of having the name Curves [X] it had the name "Compensation for Printing", already entered as the layer's name.
So (to labour the point) wouldn't it be cool if, when you clicked on the preset adjustment layer, it arrived in the Layers panel with it's name already entered. Or maybe we could have this as an option?
So if CS6 cannot do this, which from the Photoshop forum it appears not, could this be made into a "feature" in a future update of Photoshop. A small thing I know but very useful.

is it possible to have Inventor adjust array elements dependent on the available space.
It should use integer numbers only- as there is room for 25.5 elements it reduces the number of elements to 25.
The array should be be dependent on a measurement to make comparision by eye obsolete, as well as the array is to produce the right number of elements as soon as the space available is measured.

Currently, I am doing this:

What's the best way to show/hide multiple elements/symbols in AE?

I'm curious if there is a way to array objects which are a set distance off of a polyline, along the polyline at a set distance on center. For instance having a circle a 1/2" off of of the polyline, and arraying that circle at 12" on center along the polyline.

I'm using AutoCAD 2012 and when I try and start the 'ARRAY' command I do not get the popup dialogue box like in earlier versions. I remember recently having the same issue with the HATCH command, but this was solved by altering the 'HPDLGMODE' setting. I've looked for a similar setting for ARRAY but so far come up with nothing.
Any settings that will revive this dialogue box?

See code below:

Rhino allows for two-rail curves and extrusions, is there anything similar in Autocad2013? I'm working on a trellis that has an undulating, slatted top - I can array the slats along one spline/polycurve, but figuring out how to rotate them to match the secondary angle/curve (it twists) is proving to be really difficult. Rotate3D I have trouble with (crossing different faces/USC which confuses me), and doing so for each slat is going to be exceptionally time consuming.
Is there a way to array a form along two paths, so that the pieces automatically adjust to match the needed angles that both rails define?
