AutoCAD Inventor :: Adjust Array Elements Dependent On Available Space?
Jul 20, 2012
is it possible to have Inventor adjust array elements dependent on the available space.
It should use integer numbers only- as there is room for 25.5 elements it reduces the number of elements to 25.
The array should be be dependent on a measurement to make comparision by eye obsolete, as well as the array is to produce the right number of elements as soon as the space available is measured.

I was wondering if there was a way to see and adjust paperspace viewports in modelspace. By adjusting viewports in modelspace I would like to be able to adjust the size of my rectangular viewport in modelspace to encompass what I want, while keeping the viewport on paperspace the same size (to encompass the entire print page). I would like my modelspace viewport to simply adjust the zoom in and zoom out of my paperspace viewport.
Any better method than individually zooming in and zooming out and re-adjusting my paperspace viewport.

How to have “window” selection when using the “adjust space” command?
I’m wondering if there is a way to select all the dimensions needed to be adjusted in one go instead of selecting them one by one.

After making a Rounded Rectangle I often need to adjust the rectangle in the X or Y direction to fit a certain space. As I reproportion the box the three node points of the radiused corner also reproportion, distorting the radius. Any way to reproportion a Rounded Rectangle and keep a true, undistorted radius? And even better, resize the rectangle and keep the original radius.

Inside 3D Studio max, its possible to adjust the pivot center of an object to anywhere in space. So if for example, I've got a sphere in my scene and I want to have a bunch of cones spin around the center of the sphere (to create the basic shape of a sun graphic) I can just change the cone's pivot to be in the exact center of the sphere and then when I rotate and copy the cone, they will all be perfectly centered around the sphere.
Tying to do this in Photoshop however is proving rather difficult. Since the triangle representing the sun's rays is smaller than the circle representing the sun, I can't move the traingle's pivot to match the center of the sun because the bounding box for the transform isnt big enough.
If I duplicate the sun and merge the triangle and the sun together, the merge action re-adjusts the pivot to be in the center of both objects so its no longer in the correct center of the circle. I can however move the pivot point to the approximate location now because the bounding box is larger, but I don't need the approximate location, I need the exact location.
Is there a way to move the pivot to a specific coordinate? Or am I going to have to move everything onto a perfectly square canvas and snap everything to grid lines?

I'm trying to use the PATH array feature on 2013 to array stairs, and I can't get the array to be 100% accurate. It seems like CAD rounds the decimal to the nearest 3/4" which could be causing the problem.
I set my run to 10.5" and rise to 7.25", array along the angle of the stringer, and there's always a small overlap on the stairs. The "distance between" should be 1'-209/256" and CAD rounds it to 1'-3/4" which is where I believe the error is. Is there any way to fix this or array this correctly? Otherwise...back to the COPY method I suppose.

I'm working on a plan that contains an xref with some elements that are not visible in paper space at my chosen scale. The xref is an annotated structural grid. It is entirely visible in model space, but in paper space only the grid is visible, annotations such as dimensions and section cut indicators are not. Strangely, or maybe not, when I change the scale in paper space, these elements appear.
Other presentation tabs exist, created by other people, that use a different scale and those presentations properly display. The annotations are blocks in the xref document, and I wonder if those blocks could somehow be set to only display at a certain scale. I don't see any such options in the block editor. Although, I have added to this document, I did not create it, nor the xref or the blocks.

Attached file shows a book cabinet. After manipulating the depth (32 cm) for many times, still I haven't got the ideal depth. Manipulating the distance is time consuming and I am looking for a smarter way to do it.
Changing the depth is cumbersome for me, as I act in the traditional way. Let say if I want to change the depth of all shelves to 34, I choose 7 shelves from bottom, move all 2 cm down. In the next step I choose 6 shelves from bottom and move them 2 cm down and repeat until I reach the bottom.
In order to draw them, first: I use rectangle not lines which has some shortfalls, second: I use array command to copy them down.
This is not a smart way and I think there must be a better way. Although a LISP routine will solve it very easily, but I prefer a non-LISP solution.

Im making an array of all the sketched symbol definitions in a drawing that are not used in the drawing as a sketched symbol..My problem is that i do not understand how to delete all the objects i have in my array at the end of the code
Dim oDoc As Drawingdocument = ThisDoc.DocumentDim oSkSymDefs As SketchedSymbolDefinitions = oDoc.SketchedsymbolDefinitionsDim oSkSymDef As SketchedSymbolDefinitionDim oSheets As Sheets = oDoc.SheetsDim oSheet As SheetDim oSkSymb As SketchedSymbolDim MyArrayList As New ArrayList
[code]....
So I got my array with all the objects to be deleted. But how to delete?I also believe this code could be a bit more efficient.

I've heard it said that it's possible to make two separate layout profiles dynamically dependent. For example, making a driveway centerline profile dependent on the roadway centerline profile it's connected to. The idea is that if you revise the roadway centerline profile, up or down, that the driveway profile will automatically go up or down with it.
Is this true? I didn't readily see anything in the profiles area of the docs or the tutorials.

Lets say you have 100 Keps Nuts in an assembly. Named (KepsNut1,KepsNut2, etc)And you want to suppress them on and off.
Would there be a way to make an array 1-100 and just say suppress/unsupress "KepsNut" & array list of numbers. To basically add the two strings and find all the components in that array and turn them off or on.!

I'm trying to create a .DLL to access a database from within iLogic. I'm new to VB.net so I'm having some trouble. I need to pass a multidimensional array as an argument to the DLL, but when I try to run the code I get an error that says "Number of indices exceeds the number of dimensions of the indexed array."
Here is my code..
The errors occur on the sData(0,i) and the sData(1,i)
I left all the database code off, because passing the array is the big issue I believe.
Public sub AddRecord(ByRef sData() As String)
For i = 0 to FieldQty
rst.Fields.Item(sData(0,i).Value = sData(1,i)
Next
End Sub

Using expressions/formulas in a dynamic block. I want to create a dynamic flat truss with webbing, where you can select the number of V webbs and as your stretch the length of the truss the vees stretch accordingly. With the array parameter, you seem to be limited to predefining a spacing and the number of instences increases as you stretch the object. I want to set the number of instences and let the spacing change. In particular I have tried using the Parameters Manager to create a user parameter that takes the lenght of the truss and divides it by a number. When I try this AutoCAD gives me "A dependent expression cannot be evaluated" It appears that all of the Action Parameters cannot be used in expressions which really limits things.

I have sometimes an array with 10x45=450 assemblies. Because this slows down my computer dramaticly I use LOD to suppress parts within the assembly. The problem is that I have to expand every single assembly in the array, select all of them and than choose the LOD I want. This takes me a lot of time. Is there a way I can select all assemblies within an array with one (or two) clicks?

I would like to generate a rectangular pattern of extruded tubes which have an internal radius that is proportional to the distance to the centre point of the pattern. Or in other words tubes which are narrower in the centre, and wider at the exterior. Is there a way to do this without resorting to creating each tube individually?
More generally, is there a way to parameterise a feature dimension/parameter so that it is a function of spatial position?

I have an ipart I'd like to create w/ surfaces. The surface color is important because we use that as plate thickness ID in FEA. When I color a surface blue, then another red I continually get the default color when using the mirror or array command. We're creating a customizeable ipart where there will be some intelligence surrounding how big the array (we may need 3, 4, or 5 beams based on the unit size). I need a way that the colors on the surface propogate to the new surfaces created by the commands.

is there a way to create an associative array of posts so I only have to edit one part to have the entire array change? that is, I want to have global values for the dimensions in the picture below: post diametervertical width between post centreshorizontal width between post columns (again, centre to centre)vertical shift of each column w.r.t. previous one I've used the Rectangular Pattern tool to create a repetition of my posts, but I want to shift each column of posts up slightly with respect to the one before as in the attached picture:
It seems that if you want to repeat along non-perpendicular axes like this, Inventor fails if there are too many repeats. I came across this when searching the site:
[URL]
I can verify that this is my exact problem but can add that in my example, 4 repeats on the almost horizontal axis and 3 on the vertical work fine. However, 3 almost horizontal axis repeats by 4 vertical axis repeats will only work if I choose the vertical axis as Direction 2. (Is this a bug or am I trying to use the Rectangular Pattern Tool incorrectly?)
The repeat unit can be simplified to 1 circle with 2 construction lines along the repeat Direction instead of the 2x2 circles shown here but the problem persists. Also

I am looking to design a grate approximately 5mX10m with holes 250mmX32mm. My first thought was to drawing the outline of the 5mX10m grate, then create an array of tiny 32mmX200mm boxes and extrude the material between the boxes and the boundary frame. Unfortunately when I create the simple array (something like 50box by 120 boxes) inventor keeps freezing I'm thinking this is too large of a patter for inventor.
How I can make the grate in a smarter/ less resource intense manner?

How I can achieve this and ideally how I can choose the resolution of the array?

When I insert a drawing from another source as a block into one my drawing - and then explode the block and change the exploded block layers to my layers. Then I purge out the old layers. Normally this works fine, but I have lately had trouble getting rid of some unwanted layers as everytime I have tried, I get the message that they are x-ref dependent and cannot be deleted or purged. I have tried to isolate them by freezing and turning off everything else, but there are no features, entities, "specks" whatever, to erase. I have looked at the xref command, and my drawing shows no rogue xrefs. I am not sure what to do to get rid of these layers.
