This happens after the Realistic shading of the 3D solid is rotated several times, using 3Dorbit command, in AutoCAD 2013. It never happened with previous (2011) version.

I did that in parent solid body. then I noticed that other 3 solid body is not getting updated. I know in assembly file it gets updated but any way in part file.

The object has plenty of silver reflections, HDRI environment map reflections, precise shadows and highlights, etc. I just want to make it look more generic and not as polished I guess.
Are there filters or plugins that will do this in a plug in play method or is it more prodedural and manual?
We have this need to have all of the solids in a drawing to be placed in the "solid" layer.
Sometimes folks are drafting lines to develop these solids, and keeping the lines on the "solid" layer, rather than moving them to another layer, or deleting them altogether.
I could get folks to run this command before leaving the drawing.
I'm thinking something along the lines of:
Select all entities that are on the solids layer that are not solids.
If nil, great, do nothing.
If entities are selected, let me do something with them.
I'm hoping the following can be modified ever so slightly.

I'm trying to split a single solid body into 2 solid bodies. The problem is that the body I'm trying to split consists of two separate pieces. I can split a body when it is a single piece no problem, but I'm having the problem when the two pieces are not joined at all.
When I try and split it on the origin plane it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Could not build this Split"
When I try and split it on a work plane lying on one of the pieces it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Modeling failure in ASM. Redefine inputs."
Or, another variation on this erorr:
"Creating parting line failed. Split feature could not create two bodies. Change the Split Tool so that split feature can create two bodies."
I have a.3ds file imported into Civil 3d. The object imported as a polymesh in Civil 3d. I need the solid 3d object to do some edit like slice or union and subtract.
The question is "How can I import .3ds into Civil 3d as a solid objects or hoe can i convert polymesh to solid?"
I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?

Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. Is it possible to trim a 3d solid using another 3d solid as a cutting edge? I want to cut the edges of a dam using the natural ground surface (which is also a solid) as my cutting edge.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am making a design on inventor 2013 for a colleague who does not know how to use the inventor.
I want to make the solid and then set something up that allows the user to change a few of the parameters of the solid in a very user friendly way (i.e. a box that says "cylinder radius" and has an input box so the user can enter a value).
I used civil 3d and autocad map 2010 to connect to a soils data .shp file provided by my state. Then i created a style using filters and rules to identify the various soil symbols provided in the data file. This resulted in a multicolored map shading the various soil types. The shaded polygons and areas list as map bulk object and they do not obey any plot style table or color table. When I plot the map Its too bold and I want to screen all the colors back about 75% so they will not over run my site entities. How I can get those screened back without saving the layer out to a different file and making them autocad entities?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi am having a hatching issue, it seems no matter what hatch pattern i use and what hatch scale, alot of the hatch looks solid instead of the pattern i want, for example i am using currently ANSI37 @ Annotative with a scale of .20 and on the same paperspace page one plan with the hatch shows the cross hatching and the other one below looks solid (see attached) now i can go and say change the hatch scale and it reverts to the cross hatching, but then when i zoom out it goes back to "solid" is it a graphical issue?

We are printing to HP/GL-2 using HP drivers. I'm sure it's a print driver thing.
I have an IPN exploded assembly in an idw file. The individual parts were created in a multibody solid and sent out to and assembly using the "make components" command. My normal way of working is to leave the source part with appearance sent to "default". One the bodies are sent out to individual parts i manipulate material and appearance in the individual IPT files.
This is the problem..
The IPN file looks fine with the correct appearances when i open the IPN file. However, the iso view to the IPN in the IDW file does not shade correctly. It appears to shade all parts in the original gray "default" appearance.
The idw with the linked files are about 7MB after packngo and zip. Attach won't work. Please provide alternate means to transmit file. In the mean time the best i can do is screenshots
Every time I attach an XREF file, the xref drawing is shaded and is very difficult to see. Having looked through a good deal of the COMMANDS & properties trying to make Xref's more visible, without binding them into my original drawing.

I would like a detailed cut fill diagram for presentation to project owner. The site involves cuts and fills up to 30' depths. I would like to be able to represent not only cuts and fills, but give a visual representation of the depth of cuts/fills (ie darker blues and reds in the deeper areas, lighter in the shallow areas). Is there a simple way to do this without setting up 100 different colors of blues and reds in the volume surface properties analysis tab? I have seen contractor software that performs this function rather easily.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have to shade a drawing on auto cad. I go into the "hatch" command click on the solid block and then turn the transparency up all the way to its lightest shade. The shading shows on the drawing and even in paper space, but once I save the drawing as a PDF when I look at it all it is is black (like the solid color)..Why is it doing this and how do I get it to show the shading effect?? I am not sure if I have to turn on or off another setting or something.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project that has around 6 different roads, all at different angles from one another. The problem I have is when I start to create the lay-outs, I use a rotated viewport so that the roadway will be horizontal across the page. I then rotate the text so that it will be horizontal or at 90 º within the viewport. This has worked fine in the past.
With this project I have multiple areas that are sharing 2 or 3 different viewports, therefore, the text alignment for one does not match the other.
Is there a way to associate the alignment of the text to the viewport? Or will I have to copy the drawing multiple times (one for each viewport)?
I've tried both draging an image into Autocad and importing it in as a block. When I try to rotates the image it either rotates around a point (but doesn't actually rotate itself) or rotates and disappears only leaving a white outline. How can I properly rotate an image?

I've placed generic Junction box structures right out of the box from C3D and when I cut a section, the section shows the wrong side of the structure. (Rotated) i.e. An inserted 60”x36” junction box inserted as a curb inlet and then rotated into position will display the 60” side even though it’s perpendicular to the section line.
I've had to go back and place a 36”x60” to get it to display the 36” side in section? Why is there a “rotation handle” on the structure if you can’t really rotate it?I really don't want to swap all 60"x36" with 36"x60" structures just so they will display properly in section.
Acad 2013 on a capable Windows 7 machine.
I would like to cut a section through an extrusion. Attached find a section view of my extrusion cut at 90%%d. My deal is I want to be able to specify the angle. It could be anything, and it could be a compound miter (using in saw-speak, because my drawings go to saw operators), that is, angles in two directions. But, let's keep it simple - how to cut a section parallel with the Y axis in the attached drawing?
Right now I am warping something in due to the complexity of the profile. But for accuracy sake it is obvious why I'd like something better. I'd like my operators to have confidence in what they see.
I could do this easily in Inventor. Or even oin Civil 3D, working around it (using Autodesk-speak). But, I have neither. Is this a UCS thing? I trained myself to never touch the UCS long ago, because I am a surveyor by trade, and surveyors pull coordinates from AutoCAD (or one of its children) to stake points on the ground with, and a surveyor ends up working at McD's if she/he goes outside with coords pulled from a made-up UCS. So I don't know the first thing about manipulating the UCS, despite daily use of the products since release 12.
I looked at Sections in the 3D modeling workspace palettes, but nothing really jumped out at me for being able to rotate or cut sections where I want them to be. They all seem to snap to existing planes of the extruded solid. Big deal - I can do that intuitively just by looking at the part.
