View 6 RepliesI have one cross section, which gets narrow over the particular length.
(C/S : Elliptical roof surface)
In the region where cross section changes, triangulation becoming weired. If we edit surface with swape edge command then it will be ok.
I have attached both the images before and after swapping for ref.
Can we do this by dynamically ? as I have number of areas like this.

what is the trick for holding triangulation within a surface boundary? I recall a setting somewhere but can't seem to find it... attached graphic, would like to hold the surface triangulation within the arcs which are in the surface definition as boundary

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a scatter distribution object like a railroad.
I draw a smooth line, then converted it to spline: using sub-object "spline", i used "Outline" to give it some width. Next step, it was converted to a Editable Poly.
At this moment, if i select its vertices and call "Connect", the result is a zig-zag sequence of edges, which are very difficult to clean-up. Another way, select each pair of vertices to apply connect is similar time consuming...
Maybe the picture aid to show the problem.
How to connect those verts like a railroad??? Or about how to create an appropriate scatter distribution object to this work?
I am relatively new to the 3D modeling world and would like some tips and tricks on how to quickly model a staircase. I have posted a 3D pic of a particular one, that I done recently.
I would all-sow like to know how to model the bottom part of the stairs so that is is a continuous surface. Having trouble with modeling a curved surface and making it part of a solid...

I have 2 roads crossing, and I have created the 2 corridors, and an intersection object created. I split the 2 corridor regions and put the intersection in, and then closed back in the regions to the start of the intersection object (region). Now - how do I make that all one corridor object that reacts to either of my profiles, and is only one corridor surface? - the corridor surface ignores my region boundaries Or at least 3 objects that interact with each other properly. Image 1 highlights the start/end of the corridor regions, and image 2 shows how the surfaces look - why doesn't the corridor surface start and end where the regions do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have some geotextile sheets of specific dimensions (that's 45mx5m) and a surface (not a regular one) with grades ranging from 3.5% up to 34%.I would like to "fit" those sheets on the surface (which should overlap one another by .30m (see attached image)) but not project them, (that's why I don't believe "drape" is the proper word).
Meaning that since the 45m dimension is facing up/down slope, the length should be less in projection (see attached image) and that should be calculated automatically since the surface is a very irregular on (not like the attached dwg which is included as an example).
how to fix this triangulations. Adding extra breaklines does not seem to fix the issue.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI keep getting this message. I know others have posted about it- but back int 2006 [URL]. The referenced link showing the solution is no longer available.
I read on an archived blog somewhere that is was a glitch in autocad2005. I am running 2010- so I don't get it. I really need to extrude these plines
So I have multiple objects in the scene, its a weapon comprised of several parts. All the parts are touching. Is it possible to select all the objects and create a single object of just the outside surface area? I know I can go through and connect them peice by peice using boolean but the polys are off so it starts to distort my objects when the peices connect. I dont want to just group the objects I only want the shell so I can use pepakura to flatten the single object out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a simple retopo modelling. In many other soft you only need to turn on snapping to get your retopo model vertexes/edges following a surface of a hi-res reference object.
Seems I can't do so in Max because it tend to snap to faces of the same object I am working on.
Is it possible somehow to snap to faces of other objects only so the currently edited object faces would be completely ignored/excluded/invisible for snapping?

I'm trying to create a surface between 2 splines. See attached image. I normally do this in AutoCAD very easily but I I'm playing around with the Max modeling tools.
I have tried drawing a spline between them and using loft. But the loft surface does not go between the two splines.
I have tried drawing a spline between them, converted them to nurbs and tried a number of the nurb surface options such as 2 rail and ruled. But they both create a surface but the surface does not go the full length of the splines.
I have a triangulution when using 3d max 2012, in 2011 doesnt happen, its in viewport and render. When turn on direct x 9 the problem in viewport dissapear but in render is still.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I have a lofted surface (see image below) that I created with 2 curves. I created one curve, then duplicated it, moved it down the y axis, and lofted them together forming a shell looking object.
What I want to do now is fill in the "hole" in the middle. How would I go about doing that? I've been looking around but nothing has worked.
I am using Lines to model out the frame of this sword I am making, every time I apply the surface Modifier it only makes some of the lines into mesh.

I'm trying to model a box like shape with ripples over it's surface. The box can have rounded corners and edges. The ripples need to flow over the 6 faces of the box. I want 2 or 3 sets of ripples, originating in different places, interacting with each other.
My modelling skills in Max are not great. I generally use Inventor for modelling and Max for lighting, materials, animation and rendering. I've followed loads of tutorials on ways of doing this, but haven't quite managed it yet.
My latest attempt has been to use the patchdeform tool. What I've done is
1) modelling a plane, with many segments
2) applied the ripple modifier to the plane
3) created a box with smoothed edges/corners
4) converted the box to a patch
5) tried to patchdeform the plane to the box - get 'illegal patch' error
The above work with a sphere rather than a box. I'm not convinced this is the best way to achieve what I want.
I've been working on creating a sword in 3D Max for the last couple of days and have run across a problem. At the base of the blade, it goes up straight for about an inch and then tapers out and up another half inch in a curve. From there, the blade tapers/curves back in, then out once more to create a thicker end of the blade, width wise. I need to know a simple way of doing those curves. A friend of mine suggested using quick loops, then individually scaling them to get the curving effect. That just seemed like it took too much time to me, and I thought there must be a simpler way. I tried adding a taper modifier to the selected area, but that didn't really seem to do much, except give the opposite effect that I wanted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way/plugin that divides some shape in parallel lines?
Something like doing:
slice with slice plane along ex. "X" axis every 20cm
of course my shapes not aligned in any axis. Making working pivot for each shape and then making a hundred slices would be a massacre.
I have a database containing more than 5000 parcels. each parcel have its set of points with their labels, and for each parcel I have to generate a drawing. Is there an algorithm for placing point labels inside the polygon of the parcel with minimum overlapping ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to control topography triangulation in Revit 2013? I did number of surfaces in Civil 3D and when I brought them as a contour lines in Revit I got not very correct surface.
I wonder how Revit could deal with complicated grading if even simple one is wrong.
I added some polylines for site but it didn't work. Revit tends to smooth, smooth too much I would say. It gave up only when I added extra points within footprint.
Is it possible to apply a visor brush on a whole surface ?
For example, I would like to put grass on a whole plane directly, without having to use the brush to paint the object.
I am having a problem applying a planet surface texture to a geosphere. The problem occurs both with and without UVW mapping and it is the first time I have experienced it.(I'm assuming it is something that has been ticked somewhere that I cannot find)
The planet surface texture is a flat space view map. Usually when I apply images like these to spheres it perfectly wraps however this time it is confining the image to one "corner" of the sphere.
Any way to fix this (Picture 1) in either at the poly or subd stage. I have experimented with bevel and can reduce it but is there a way to smooth it out completely.

My final result should look exactly like "untitled.3.jpg", but with the gold and silver patterns seen at the link to the website on top of the silver film.
I've tried the "cloth" modifier, but it seems it only works to conform planes and not solids. I've also looked at "flex" and "skin", but still no luck.
What modifier would be best to accomplish this? I would like to be able to tune how much the film conforms to the surface.
Here's the CAD model for the assembled thin films: [URL].......
And the model for the red object: [URL]......

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have used Quad Draw to create geometry on the surface of an object, this geometry and its pivot can be seen in picture 1.I then try to mirror this geometry to the other side of the object's surface using the settings shown in picture 2
I get a mirror, but not based on the pivot, but it seems the mirrored geometry wants to be attached to the original drawn polys as shown on picture 3. Could it be a bug or is this how Quad Drawn objects are intended to behave?
