So I have a lofted surface (see image below) that I created with 2 curves. I created one curve, then duplicated it, moved it down the y axis, and lofted them together forming a shell looking object.
What I want to do now is fill in the "hole" in the middle. How would I go about doing that? I've been looking around but nothing has worked.
I want to Boolean text onto a PolyPipe I made. Let me include a pic for reference.
Like I said, i built the "ring" with a Polygon Pipe turned 90 degrees. Then I created 3D text. but I do not know how to "bend" the text so that I can move it over part of the ring and Boolean it through.
I'm trying to update an old drawing that has been a part of my military organization for decades that was originally drawn on some old paper.
I am having both objects disappear after a Boolean Union (I am going to try creating just two random objects - a cube and a sphere - and seeing if the operation works with them).
One thing that I have thought is that the resolution of the mesh might be srewing up the operation (The sizes of the polygons in the two objects is pretty different).
So that might be a factor (when I am in Mudbox, I could try not subdividing the smaller objects as much as the larger one, so that the polygons are the same size).
Have a model of a camera that was made out of polys, whats the best way to boolean / engrave text onto the model? i tried tons of things, deleting history before boolean diff, combining the objects then extracting. Result is that it either doesnt work or deletes both my text and my object. I always try to boolean things in my model because i lack experience with creating and applying displacement maps.
How to achieve this using boolean diff or can they suggest what to use as reference to learn how to create displacement maps.
Any way to fix this (Picture 1) in either at the poly or subd stage. I have experimented with bevel and can reduce it but is there a way to smooth it out completely.
I have used Quad Draw to create geometry on the surface of an object, this geometry and its pivot can be seen in picture 1.I then try to mirror this geometry to the other side of the object's surface using the settings shown in picture 2
I get a mirror, but not based on the pivot, but it seems the mirrored geometry wants to be attached to the original drawn polys as shown on picture 3. Could it be a bug or is this how Quad Drawn objects are intended to behave?
I've been modelling in Maya for less than a day so go easy on me!
I'm in the process of making a traffic light and have got a bit stuck on the shade around the light.
I first made a profile curve and revolved it to get a kind of cup shape. The profile curve double backs on itself so the revolve is not completely flat.
Next I projected a curve onto the side of the revolve to get the wavy shape of the light shade, and trimmed the excess off.
Now I have my lovely traffic light shape, but the ends where the revolve was trimmed are not attached. (Because I double backed the profile curve)
I wish to create a testing surface for simulation from a DSM height data (under a college assignment). I downloaded a height data from [URL]........ in a .dwg file format and want to import in on maya and create a surface out of it.
I am new to Maya, and I have just started to learn modeling. I am trying to check X-Ray from "Shading" in my side view so I can model against a drawing that's on a plane. However the X-Ray option does not look active - it is gray while the rest of the Shading list is in black - and does not let me check the checkbox.
I am trying to follow the Lynda Maya 2013 Essentials video, if you are familiar with it.
How to create such object (cell model) in Maya? Do I need to use a special script or is there any method to align small balls along the surface of a big ball (or other shape)?
When creating a loft between two curves, I am not able to control the top and bottom portion of the surface created, I have joined a picture of the part and my IPT file with the problem I got.
I have attached a picture of what it continues to do when I attempt to select a face of this polygon I revolved from a cv curve tool line. Accidentally copied dual screen. I have been running into countless problems while trying to manipulate this revolved surface like a polygon but there is something stopping me. How do I just select an edge or a face without the entire thing lighting up with yellow dots and not actually selecting anything! I try to hold shift and click other faces but that doesn't work either!
If I could somehow delete the action of revolving a line to treat the independent tessellations as one uniform polygon. I am very new to this program and I don't know where history might be.
I am trying to use the Boolean modifier more than one time on a box and it doesn't seem to work. I pick the Operand B to subtract on the second object I want to Boolean out, it disappears, but there is no hole there.
I created a very simple two poly object and then deleted my construction history and now I cannot seem to create a new polygon in the scene unless I turn off interactive creation.
If I choose create>sphere etc the little sign that says drag on grid appears but when I do nothing happens. I made a new scene and did the same thing and I don't have the same problem so Im not sure why in this particular scene.
I have booleand two splines, that were beveld to give them depth, than booleen together to make the shape of a car. I am having trouble completing the modeling because of the mesh. Is there anyway to make the mesh better (as in like a grid)?
I'm attaching part of my mesh with another using the Boolean Tool. When I do this part of the mesh I'm using disappears when it shouldn't. How do I fix this?
Before Boolean (showing the two parts)
After Boolean (look at the railcars far left side its gone)
I'm having a problem with being able to select inputs in the Chanel box / layer editor ! I am using maya 2012 on a MacBook pro , for instance if I create a cylinder ,when it's created I bring up the Chanel box , I have : pCylinder1 then the boxes for adjusting the xyz axis etc , then shapes / pCylinderShape1 , and that's it ! I have no inputs tab to adjust sub-divisions etc ?? Have I not got something selected
Whenever I try to select a Curve to select 'Control Vertex' I get the options for the Camera instead, the only work around I have is to Hide the Camera which also switches off the image planes, then select the curve and select 'Control Vertex, and then re-enable the image planes.
unable to select objects after creating them in view port ..i am not able to select them in view port i can only select them either by SELECT ALL or from outliner or Hierarcy
I am currently working with an elliptic profile that needs to be unfolded. The part consists of two sketches, with each sketch having two ellipses. The ellipses on each sketch then forms a cross-section where the thickness of it is supposed to be 8 mm (the first ellipse is offsett).
My plan is then to generate a mold for the inner and outer sides of this part by using the "Lofted flange" function and Rip, since I want the flat pattern of it. However, I've found that I can not select my offset ellipse when using Lofted flange, only the original one. I'm thinking that this might be caused due to the offset ellipse not actually being an ellipse but a spline (I read somewhere that there are two ways of offsetting an ellipse. One generates a mathematical ellipse and the other a spline). Creating an new ellipse and then saying that the a and b distance should be 8 mm less than the other ellipse will work, but that will not give me a constant wall thickness of 8 mm along the circumference of the elliptic cross-section.
I have been working with autocad for approximately five months. I feel as though I have a pretty good grasp of the program's capabilities and commands, but I'm stumped. I've successfully imported a 3dm file to autocad 2012 and all of the geometry is present in autocad (it is not a 2d wireframe), but I am unable to perform boolean operations on it.
The model has also taken on a strange pale blue hugh, though the wirefram is lavender (unless I explode it and then unionize it several times over. Unfortunately this results in an issue with surface faces intersecting with one another, as well as a loss of geometry). The model cannot be converted to a surface nor a solid which means that it is not water-tight. This is not a model that I have created. I've been tasked by my employer to make several changes to it. Why (without exploding it) I cannot perform boolean operations.
I have a problem when I am modeling my character or rather the character from the animation academy. I have created an NURBS sphere and I want to adjust it to the arm, so I go to the component mode add some isosparms and then it happens!!! I can´t move any vertexes... but in the object mode I can move the hole object.
I've been working on a tyre for a while. Now i need to model the side wall with some text on it. Because the tyre has to be printed in 3d i need this text as polygons in the model (not in a texture). So what is the best way to get a 3d text on my poly? It's very important to get an valid editable poly (from each vertice start 4 edges / an edge don't has 1 face on on side and 2 on the other ...).
