Im totally new to max. Im trying to draw a ship hull. I draw frames and placed in positions then i tried applying coss section modeifier and tried also to connect vertices manulay.
View 3 RepliesCreated intersection added that to existing corridor. Then went to cross section sheets and the cut , fill and strip show up but no subassembly surfaces show for the intersection .

The FG was created from the corridor.
The cross sections show the EG, FG and Corridor. Yet the Corridor is NOT ON the FG surface.
This is only happening on one section (0+20). The other sections look good.
I've read a few threads on this way back but cannot locate them. I have two surfaces and create a volume surface and it reported the volume as 493 cy. I then ran some sample lines at 25 foot interval and the total volume is reported as 964 cy.

The labels must also indicate the appropriate drawing cross reference. (basically a circle with a arrow, text inside circle showing drawing cross reference). My question is - is there an automated way/library to insert such labels or do I have to create each of them from individual elements and make a block?

My solid model is imported from IGES file format. I'd like to make a plane at specified location (perpendicular from the surface), and I'd like to have a cross sectional geometry cut by that plane. (attached pic.)
1. How can I make a plane following perpendicular line from the surface?
2. How can I export the cross sectional geometry?
The attached csv file contains x,y,z coordinates and the image number per row (only 1 in this file). I am reading in this file and creating a spline knot at each of these points. The last coordinate x,y,z set closes the splines and creates a shape that resembles a US state. I next extrude it a couple inches and it looks like a hollow 3-D state.
My question is how do I go about capping (or filling) the top and bottom faces? I have a feeling it is a bit more complicated because of the large number of knots, around 127, in this shape. As every time I try and follow the cap surface instructions in the reference it doesn't do what I want. Is there any way to automatically or by using a script join the vertices so that it looks like a mesh grid on the top and bottom and then fill in those areas?

I have created a big spline. When I tried to "Convert to poly", it doesn't work. Usually, as result, the spline appears with a filled. In my case, the spline disappears. I thought it might be because the spline is not closed, but it is correct.
how I can easily find openings in a spline and/or overlapping vertices and edges that prevent the extrude modifier from working correctly? I very frequently need to import .DWG's and .AI's and many times they have hundreds of vertices. Even after I apply a normalize spline modifier to diminish the vertex count, it can be quite tedious to find breaks and overlaps. I find fiddling with the weld verts also to be a pain (usually removes more vertices than I want). I just want to graphically see it on the screen the problematic areas if possible. Attached is a good example. I can easily see on 2 of the splines the yellow vertex to signify start/finish but on the 3rd spline I don't see anything. There are 2 vertices in the same spot and it looks like 1 white vertex. I've never really used Xview but I'm probably not using it correctly. When I use it I get a bunch of green vertices that aren't in any way overlapping.

I have booleand two splines, that were beveld to give them depth, than booleen together to make the shape of a car. I am having trouble completing the modeling because of the mesh. Is there anyway to make the mesh better (as in like a grid)?

How can i achieve symmetry on a spline by adjusting the handles of the vertices? The copy/paste tangent button is only useful for vertices with handles pointing in the same directions, how can i copy/paste tangent (same length) but pointing in the opposing directions, it would be like mirroring tangents?

I created a spline from a shape, which is the upper spline. The lower spline is created by the create line option. With refine i added a few vertexes.
Now i want to connect the vertexes but it doesnt work. The only 2 vertexes that are connectable when i click on connect (a little + appears when I hover those vertexes) is the lower right and the lower left. When I use cross section, all the vertexes connect anyhow, but not the way I want it.
i often see ways of making particles follow splines. But is it possible to create spline paths generated with pflow ? using 3ds max 2013
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a script for scattering proxies on a surface or along a spline. In previous versions of Max I used Peter Watje Scatter. But itdoesn't seem to be available for 2012.
I don't have enough use for it to justify buying Carbon scatter or multiscatter and I find render farms don't tend to have these plugins anyway. Forest Pack lite only works on flat surfaces.
I am trying to animate a spline or jointed border object over an irregular surface.I want to add particles to the spline in the end to try to simulate a fire burning outward across a terrain.
I tried booleaning out a border and while that works, when I add particles to it, it overwhelms my computer. I tried using shapeMerge but that doesn't quite do what I want either. Itoo's glue plugin conforms an object to the terrain but doesn't allow me to animate it.
if i have one feature line i want to project to all sections in a sample line group it would seem you should be able to pick the one line and assign in a label style and you would be done quick and easy. instead if you pick the multiple projection option you get this percentage distance box and it tend to grab stuff you don't want.

I'm just starting to get involved with using SSA, and I'm wondering if it's possible to import sample lines/alignments (a la Hec-Ras). I see that there's an irregular channel editor, but no import options that I can see. I'll end up with about a dozen or so x-sections.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a band label set up for my cross sections that will show existing grade and finish grade elevations at the 0' offset mark of each section.
However, the band does not show when I create my sections. The only way I can seem to get it to show is by right clicking a section, section view properties, bands tab, click 'import band set' at bottom of window, and select they style i want to use. But I have to do this for each section individually. That is a problem as I have over 200 sections for one piece of this project.

I'm currently working on a cross section plan and was wondering if there was any way I can change the direction of the cross section view. I'm currently just using 2 sample lines, so just 2 views are needed. My problem is that it seems like one cross section...the view is facing upstream and the other sample line, the cross section view is facing downstream.
Is this normal? How come both cross sections don't face the same direction? So with one x section it's in a East-West direction but the other is a West to East direction.

I am working with cross sections for the first time and have run into a few things I can't seem to figure out. In attachment XSEC CIVIL 3D.pdf you will see how the cross sections currently look in my drawing.
My questions:
1. I cant seem to edit the elevation labels on the right side of the section to match the left side. Where/how can I do this?
2. What is the red line? In some sections it exactly follows the assembly section, but in a few (like this one) it doesn't quite follow. Does this line show where manual editing was done?
3. Where the pavement ends, there is a vertical line which I only want to show on the two pavement layers, it shows all the way thru the assembly. This also happens at the centerline of the assembly and at the edge of shoulder. I figured out how to turn them all off, but I want the edge of pavement vertical lines there.
4. Although the assembly section comes in on color 161 which should plot black for my pen setting, it plots true color. I haven't been able to figure out how to switch this. The second attachment shows a section from a LDD project a few years back which is how I would like this section to plot.
I am a new user of AutoDesk inventor and have a few questions about saving different views of the drawing. I have a floor plan layout and need to save several different cross section views to see different angles and different parts of the interior. I am familiar with how to do this in programs such as google sketchup but not inventor. I also need to insert text with arrows pointing to different things in the drawing. Is this possible with inventor or does the drawing need to be put into other software such as paint.
