I am attempting to split a face so I have a good area to apply a load in simulation and 3/4 of the areas split just fine but I CANNOT get the 4th area to split! This is all just projected geometry but left and right are symmetrical so I can't figure out why the L side works but not the R side.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to model plug welds in IV2014. I've read all the posts here that say that I need to split the hole faces. Problem is, the split face command doesn't seem to appear in weldments. I want to make the holes to be plugged as a weld preparation. Am I just missing something here, or is IV so backward that a common weld can only be achieved when not working with a weldment?

I use the split face tool on my ipt. When i create a idw of this part I want to show the split face line in the drawing. When I initially place the view the line is shown, however when the place view command is finished the line is not shown.
I see nothing obvious in the place view dialog box controlling the visibility of this line............how do i show this line in the view?

I'm desperate to know how should i heal the errors for loop orientation issues. I had imported the .stp file into inventor so i can do stress analysis. After imported the file and enter into repair environment, after i find the errors shown 9 errors in loop orientation issues.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAttached is a surface model with parameters which drives an assembly I have. I was testing it by changing dimensions to see where failures in the main assembly occured. It worked for a few changes so I saved it and checked it into vault.
The Split using the 70 Deg Plane (you will find them in the browser, Split 5 and Split 7) is where the problem occurs. When I increase the outside diameter (i made it 147 in.), Spits 5 and 7 get moved up to the top half.
The same surface (named OUTER HOUSING SIDE) and its mirror are split on the XZ plane prior to the splits in question (5 and 7).
Say I draw a mesh sphere and I do the Split Mesh Face. Why am I fail to select the mesh face to split? It only allows me to pick the lines.

the situtation is splitting a floor face in the exiting phase to "paint" the floor tile pattern in the existing restrooms and then removing that once in the new phase and resplitting to "paint" the new pattern...
is it possible to split a floor face in existing phase, paint it, then move to new face and un-split and paint it to create a new split and new paint?
There is any option to merge bottom face of pad eye and pipe curved face... Something like
1. Extrude face to a surface or
2. like notch option available in frame generator ?
N:B - pad eye is made by extrusion and pipe made by frame generator.
All I need to do is merge a circular face to a flat face, so both faces become one continuous face. Is this possible at all?
I have a attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Face 1 needs to be merged with face 2. This is so if I constrain anything to that face it will constrain to the entire face and not either the circular face OR the flat face.
I've got a closed traverse that has all the elements, but when I try and analyze it, I get the dreaded error: Insufficient angles, distances or points to calculate this loop. Creating a Traverse for Adjustment: [URL]l and my screen capture looks very similar to his, but I'm not getting any results.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA co-worker and I came in this morning and both of our inventors are giving us this Faild to Open error. We run on single user accounts and we do not use vault. I then tried to backup all of my documents, but it would not let me backup either. I did a properties on the folder and it showed everything was read only. I click off read only and it let me backup. But still will not let me open a model part or assembly??? I tried turning off Avast and that did nothing either.We are still running 2008. Inventor and Autocad.

I have a short piece (4") of thin-walled pipe that is split longitudinally (sp?) - in other words, it is not a complete circle... and has a 1/4" gap that I can insert spreader pliers into... I want to 'open' the gap with spreader pliers (to release it) and thus, the pipe must 'act' accordingly.
I attempted using the Bend modifier, but did not have desired results. I might also add that I have not used Bend modifier beforehand.
I want to union all the members in a complex roof truss structure so I can 3D print the model (picture attached). It seems intermittent in which elements will union and which wont. Revisiting the elements they sometimes then union. Sometimes there is no error message while sometimes 'Inconsistent Edge Face Relationship'

When I query the EdgeLoop of sphere for Outer edge loop using function InvEdgeLoopPtr::GetIsOuterEdgeLoop(), I always get a value of VARIANT_TRUE. check for the inner and outer loop of a sphere? use the attached file for reference.

"The Boolean operation on solid and/or surface bodies failed.Modeling Operation Error: Inconsistent face-body relationships.SLICE failed for selected solid."
What I have tried:I up-scaled the surface-solid ensemble by 10x but it didn't work(same error)
I extruded that complex,multi-plane surface and then sliced it with a horizontal plane and got the desired solid BUT:I would like to know what the cause of that problem was and how it can be solved so that I can slice that solid following that surface.
I am trying to create a logic rule to replace the model reference in a idw file and then save as using the new file reference name. I am able to do this for individual files or components within an assembly file.
However what I would like is to check through all files of a certain type (for example ipt with filenames beginning "SSUA" ) in a specific folder.
The following code from Curtis Waguespack works well for individual selected files but I would like to take it a stage further with the above parameters.

I have VB code that loops through and utilizes Excel data to pick which file(s) to open, update, and close. Then it opens the appropriate .idw file, updates it and saves it as a .pdf.
The line of code I have now is simple:
_invApp.ActiveDocument.SaveAs("C:UsersxxDesktopA60.pdf", True)
and that writes the file to my desktop as a .pdf.
However, as the loop runs over and over, it will find another data set that is the same A60 type, so it will want to save OVER that .pdf it's already created.
How do I go about having a variable filename? Something where it would add a _01 _02 _03 (or similar) to the end of the filename (i.e. A60_01.pdf, A60_02.pdf).
I am currently designing a heat exchanger and want to adjust the number of water channel using iLogic. The number of channels to be active is based on the channel dimensions, and is calculated in my excel spreadsheet, but up to a maximum of 19. This is stored in the parameter "no_channel". Each channel is a seperate feature (extrusion) and named from "Channel 1" though "Channel 19".
My idea of doing this automation was to have iLogic suppress all the features, and then doing a closed loop to unsuppres the features I want active:

The Edge Chain buttons were grayed out, why?

View 4 Replies View RelatedTo recreate this error, draw 2 simple shapes in Illustrator CS6, copy and paste them together as a Shape layer in Photoshop CS6.
Then go to 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Path. I just accept the defaults.
Then go to 3D > Split Extrusion.
The error is thrown at this point. No matter what I do, I can't get it to work.
I've tried rasterizing the shape, but then I get a different error. When I select 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Layer, I get the error: "Could not complete the New 3D Extruions from Selected Layer command because the path is too complex." This is ridiculous. I can't get the 3D to work at all.
I am not sure exactly why this is a limited feature of Inventor 2011 but when you want to select a sketch to create a boundary patch you have to select each part of the sketch in sequence. It's a pretty laborious task. I am looking to a way to automate this using i logic.
View 5 Replies View Relatedway to redefine a point that was placed in a model with a "Center of Loop of Edges" command? Inventor doesn't seem to recognize type of placement unless it's been selected from the Point drop-down menu, but picking this in the midst of a redefine only creates a new point, it doesn't redefine the original point.
As it is, I've been forced to just delete the original point, create a new one and go from there.

I'm designing a lift truck with a "chain over" lift - the lift cylinder has a sprocket mounted on the end of the rod, and the chain is grounded on one side. The other end of the chain is mounted to a lifting carriage so that as the cylinder extends and pushes the sprocket up, the chain rolls over it and the carriage moves up (at twice the speed of the cylinder). This is nothing new - it's pretty much how every single fork truck in the world operates.
My question is this: can I use the roller chain generator to model this chain, or should I model the links and array them along a path? My thinking is that if I can use the chain generator, I should be able to animate the chain using Dynamic Simulation. But the chain generator seems to require a minimum of 2 sprockets in order to work - there's no way that I can see to have a "non-looped" chain or any way to just ground the end of the chain.

I'd like to use the Cable and Wiring tools to model some fibre optics. I can see how this could work well, being able to set and check for the minimum bend radius. However, I'd also like to include a loop of greater than minimum bend radius between the two connection points, we tend to do this to reduce strain on the fibres. Any elegant solution for inserting the loop?

I have found this rule that will measure the loop length and display it in a message box
