AutoCAD Inventor :: Roller Chain Generator Without A Closed Loop?
Dec 20, 2013I'm designing a lift truck with a "chain over" lift - the lift cylinder has a sprocket mounted on the end of the rod, and the chain is grounded on one side. The other end of the chain is mounted to a lifting carriage so that as the cylinder extends and pushes the sprocket up, the chain rolls over it and the carriage moves up (at twice the speed of the cylinder). This is nothing new - it's pretty much how every single fork truck in the world operates.
My question is this: can I use the roller chain generator to model this chain, or should I model the links and array them along a path? My thinking is that if I can use the chain generator, I should be able to animate the chain using Dynamic Simulation. But the chain generator seems to require a minimum of 2 sprockets in order to work - there's no way that I can see to have a "non-looped" chain or any way to just ground the end of the chain.

Sep 26, 2011I am not sure exactly why this is a limited feature of Inventor 2011 but when you want to select a sketch to create a boundary patch you have to select each part of the sketch in sequence. It's a pretty laborious task. I am looking to a way to automate this using i logic.

Nov 21, 2012I'd like to know the alternatives in 3ds Max to these popular tools:
1-When you have selected an edge loop, let's say, on a plane, how to select the polygons inside that loop? At the moment I'm using the split tool as a (very bad) workaround.
2-When you have selected some polygons, how to select the edges on the "boudndary"? (kinda the opposite of the above) At the moment I'm using the detach as element and border selection as a (very bad) workaround.
3ds Max :: Can't Select Edge Loops Created Using The Chamfer Tool
Dec 2, 2012I can't select edge loops created using the chamfer tool. For example, add a cube (1 segment in all direction), convert to editable poly and select one edge, chamfer it a little bit to make it rounded, now there's clearly a loop of edges there, but it's not selectable by using the loop selection.

Dec 5, 2012Is there a way to dimension chamfers like in the second pic below so that the values update. You can do a linear dimension and then alter the text and try and find that dimension in the list, but the chamfer tool works well with two clicks but you only get it with a leader. I would like the same function but with a linear dimension sometimes. It would be good if you could choose it. 45° is probably not a really good example, but the leader version is not always so clear.

Mar 4, 2013In Autodesk Inventor 2013. I have a simple cylinder extrusion with a rectangle attached to the cylinder. Drawing file attached(extrusion 1). Whenever I apply a chamfer to one of the straight edges, Inventor generates negative taper on the cylinder wall (if you zoom in with a window, you can clearly see that their are two lines on the cylinder wall where the chamfer edges was applied).
Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? This gives me all sorts of problem in my CAM software because the tool is trying to machine in an area it cannot get to.
As a work around I have to create a new part file with a small gap between the cylinder and the chamfered edges. This keeps the cylinder edges nice and straight with no taper. The work around is attached as well. Since the tool can't go that far into the corner given the radius of the tool, the gap has no affect on me generating code. I have tried many different ways on creating this part with chamfers with no luck. Once the chamfer is generated, it should match the profile of the cylinder.

Nov 22, 2013We commonly weld two half cone sections together to make a complete cone. To show the weld prep i have modeled a chamfer on the cone edges.
When i try and show the chamfer on the drawing using a section I cannot dimension the angle as the surface is viewed as a curve by Inventor.
I have attached a drawing and part file showing the problem and showing the detail I would like (I've shown the detail using a simple sketch).

Oct 3, 2011Every time I create a chamfer note, I have to edit it, because I don't like '1.5 X 45° ', I like the lower case of '1.5 x 45° '. Only a small detail, maybe, but that's how I prefer it. Can I edit the template somewhere so that this happens automatically?
Similarly, can I edit the hole note so that the tolerance (6H, etc) is not shown for tapped holes?

Dec 18, 2013Been toying with sheet metal stuff here lately. Going from solid modeling to this feels kind of backwards to how you design.
Anyways, I have part (attached). 300° round. So far checks out to how I want. Please look at chamfer #2. It is in the correct location, but it is not letting me do what I want...maybe I havent started this simple peice in the correct fashion.. What I need is the chamfer in the same 'wall' where it is, but I need it 4.97° x 23" long AROUND the part.

Anything that I should do different from the video? I have been using inventor for a little while but I've never used the adaptive stetches or the functions thing ot a rectangular pattern that is not in the shape of a rectangle.

Here is my current work practice...
I have a panel with a row of hole features, they are not an array as the pitch between holes typically varies.
I create a chain of centres along the row.
I copy the panel and drawing to make a similar part but I remove one of the holes from the middle of the row.
Now the chain centreline is broken, obviously missing a feature and I cannot find a way to heal the centreline unless I delete and recreate it.
There is also the switcharound too where I add a hole within the row.I typically have to do this for nearly 60 similar panels.

In between the sprockets is a slider that needs to be attached to the chain so that the rolling of the chain moves the slider back and forth.Right now the chain just runs straight through the slider, it isn't connected at all. I can't find any way to tell Inventor that this slider is connected to the chain.

Oct 4, 2012I have two set of chain drives connected to each other through a common axle. The motor (which is not visible in my assembly) drives the yellow sprocket.
The two sprockets mounted on the grey axle is attached with a key way so when the yellow sprocket turns, the two chain drives turns.
I want to attach the blue sled on the blue chain, the red sled on the red chain and then rotate the yellow sprocket so both of the sleds moves with their chains (at the same speed/ time).
The blue sled is going to move a rolled bar (the orange one) on the floor (glass square) a certain length and then the red sled is going to "take over" and continue to move the bar on the floor.
I want to make sure I´ve got the spacing between the sprockets in the short chain drive (red) correct so the red sled takes over when the blue sled disappears under the floor.

Edit: I use IV 2012, but I also downloaded IV 2013 professional (trial) so I can use the dynamic motion.

However what I would like is to check through all files of a certain type (for example ipt with filenames beginning "SSUA" ) in a specific folder.

AutoCAD Inventor :: VB To Change Filename As Loop Progresses
Jun 8, 2012I have VB code that loops through and utilizes Excel data to pick which file(s) to open, update, and close. Then it opens the appropriate .idw file, updates it and saves it as a .pdf.
The line of code I have now is simple:
_invApp.ActiveDocument.SaveAs("C:UsersxxDesktopA60.pdf", True)
and that writes the file to my desktop as a .pdf.
However, as the loop runs over and over, it will find another data set that is the same A60 type, so it will want to save OVER that .pdf it's already created.
How do I go about having a variable filename? Something where it would add a _01 _02 _03 (or similar) to the end of the filename (i.e. A60_01.pdf, A60_02.pdf).
AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic FOR Loop To Unsuppress Features
Sep 10, 2013I am currently designing a heat exchanger and want to adjust the number of water channel using iLogic. The number of channels to be active is based on the channel dimensions, and is calculated in my excel spreadsheet, but up to a maximum of 19. This is stored in the parameter "no_channel". Each channel is a seperate feature (extrusion) and named from "Channel 1" though "Channel 19".
My idea of doing this automation was to have iLogic suppress all the features, and then doing a closed loop to unsuppres the features I want active:

However, this gives me the following error:
