Is there a way to copy a viewport with all its layers setup from one drawing file to another drawing file?
I can copy the viewport and activate it, but the layers setup for that viewport goes to default. So it turns everything on.
I can't make a layer state in the old file and import in new file, because the new file does not have all the same layers. So not all my layers would be turned off in the viewport.

Question : How the best to copy these texts?
Is there any way to change the msltscale variable to 1 and the scale to 1/4"=1'-0" in multiple drawings without opening each and doing it all manually?

Is there a way to export out the layout tab where the viewport contents have been converted and placed into the layout space?
Ideally, I'm hoping to basically convert the viewport heavy paperspace into a dumb model space layout.
I'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.
I have one layout. On that layout I want to have 2 viewports. I also have ssay block A and block B I want to insert.I would like Viewport1 to display block A and viewport 2 to display block B.
What happens to me is when I created Viewport 1 and inserted block A. I go on to create viewport 2. But viewport 2 displays only block A, which I cannon delete to insert block B.
I have a keyboard shortcut for Copy (see directly below). This command doesn't copy multiple. But if I type "Copy" at the comment prompt (AutoCAD 2013) the copy multiple is the default. Copymode is already set to "0".

Is it possible to show two different viewports in the same layout that show views from two different drawings? So one viewport would show a section of the current drawing's modelspace, and the second viewport would show a a section of modelspace from another drawing? (and possibly update automatically like an XREF?) Or would the easiest way be to just XREF both drawings into a new drawing, and then show viewports from them in the new drawing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo in the last week or so, my C3D 2014 randomly decided not to copy viewports. It copies the box, but nothing in it. Plus you can't go into model space in the copied viewport. Just looks and acts like a normal rectangular polyline. But when you check the properties, it still says it is indeed a "Viewport" object.
Short of reinstalling the software, any setting that would cause this?
My drawing will only allow 3 viewports in each paperspace layout created. When I try to add or copy more than 3 viewports previous viewports created will go blank and cannot be activated anymore. I have never had this issue before, is there a setting that can fix this problem? I am running AutoCAD Architecture 2010

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD Architecture 2011. I have been working in a drawing for several weeks on casework. I have multiple viewports on my sheet layouts. Up until now I was able to select the viewports and move them or make them bigger or smaller with grip edit but now although I see them I can't select them or even delete them. I can double click within the viewport and change the scale or modify the items in the viewport but I can't do anything to the viewport in paper space.
I have turned all the layers on and made sure that none of them were locked. I have tried regen. I have opened a new tab and tried to create new viewports and I have the same problem. I can create them but once I do I can't modify / move them.
Beyond that when I switch from model to paper space it takes about 5 min. sometimes longer to switch and the same thing when I save it or close it. Is that normal?
I was trying to recover a temporary file but as i know now, it's impossible. I entered a few commands relating to grips and something else wich i don't remember, and now I'm unable to lock/unlock viewports and when I select objects to copy and then press _CO or copy button or copy with base point, it deselects the objects and asks me to select them again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2011 from C3D2010. I have used the same ACAD.PGP file for years that includes the shortcut C for the COPY command. Up until C3D2011 this would always allow me to copy an entity multiple times, (the default when COPYMODE is set to 0).
I am running C3D2011 64bit on WIN 7 64bit OS. It happens with other commands too that use a dialog box normally, i.e. INSERT - it only brings up the command line version of it.
I am having a problem with memory. I am running Windows XP with 4GB ram. when i start laying out in paper space, i copy the window in one page or copy multiple pages, every time i copy a page of window my memory builds up & up & up with each one until it gets to over 2 GB & the it tell me that if i continue with this next process CAD will crash because i have maxed out the virtual memory. This is usually not a problem when i am doing smaller one off drawings with a few pages of windows but when i am doing a bigger project with 20+ pages or windows i run out of memory.
I gave the latest file to my business partner & he does not have this problem at all. He can open up many windows & as many pages as Cad will allow. His memory always fluctuates around the same 2GB. He is running Windows 7 with 4 GB ram.
I know that we can have precision movement within viewport using -pan. However that panning is limited to the active viewport, 1 at a time by double clicking in the viewport. Is there a way to apply -pan to a number of viewports, say I want to move all the model space irrespective of scale 300 mm to the west or 100 mm to the north in more than 1 viewport.

Under View Tab when I go to choose different Viewport configurations sometimes some of the views change to isometric view. I don't know how to change it back to 2d view.
They mension something about viewport control lables which should be in top left corner, but I don't see those in my viweports.
I am creating plan sheets and using the sheet creation tool. The plan sheets I am looking to make have stacked view, similar to a plan and profile sheet, only they have the horizontal alignment in both views.
I have a template set up with two viewports, but when I try to create the sheets it puts the same view frame in both of the viewports. Is there any way to set this template up so that I can have, lets say, STA 100+00 - 110+00 in the top viewport and then STA 110+00 - 120+00 in the bottom viewport. I understand that I can move the viewports once they are created, but I would rather have that done automatically. I am not sure if what I want done is possible with Civil 3D.
I am trying to learn Annotative text using multiple viewports. My question: I have text in Model space with Annotative scales to match two different viewports in layout space. Sometimes the text or dimensions for that matter appears in a different place in the two windows. What gives?
View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery once and a while when I open up a dwg, autocad will load with what looks like two viewports in my model space tab. The bottom viewport is not clickable and the top viewport is very thin and is the one I am able to move around in. I would like to get this to stop.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on a .DWG in Civil3D which has 12 viewports. This particular .DWG causes my computer to lag quite a bit. I was wondering if there was a way of combining viewports in paper space (i.e. taking areas from multiple viewports and displaying them in one viewport), or if I am stuck with the individual viewports? I am just looking to speed up the process, it takes a long time to load the .DWG and work within it, the problem happens to others as well.

Large area with many smaller sites (retention ponds and such)
All sites must remain in the paper space layout
(I've tried deleting viewports, and that does speed up the process, but again, I need to keep all sites intact).

I have two viewports, one that is not rotated at 1:50 scale, the other rotated at 1:20 scale, and using associative dimensioning, therefore viewing the same model object with two associative scales. The rotated viewport is showing the dimenions upsidedown since it is rotated more than 180deg. If I modify the dimension properties to Left to Right instead of Right to Left, it rotates my other unmodified viewport. The only way right now to have the dimensions showing properly, is to print the first pages with the unmodified viewports, then modify the dimension properties, and then print the rotated viewport pages.
View 0 Replies View RelatedIf I have UPSFOLLOW set to '1' when using multiple viewports in the workspace when I click from one viewport to another it refreshes the viewport that I'm leaving with the setting of the viewport I select. If I set UPSFOLLOW to '0' it doesn't happen. Is there a way of stopping this happening without having to keep changing the UPSFOLLOW setting i.e. have UPSFOLLOW set to '1' and the viewports not change when swapping them?
