AutoCAD LT :: Can't Copy / Paste Between Drawings/ Incomprehensible Heavy Drawings
Dec 28, 2012
I'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.
I am having trouble copying out of a drawing (model space) which i received from someone else, and pasting into my own. The properties on the original dwg file suggest it was created Sept 2001. It appears to copy OK (copyclip/copybase), but when i jump into my file and try to paste, the command line just reads:
_pasteclip
and nothing appears in my model space.
I've tried zooming extents, exploding the original, changing layers and line types etc into the same as in my own dwg. I've also tried to convert/save the dwg file into dxf's and other version dwg's....without success.
I have about half a dozen drawings received from the same source, and they all let you copy data into them, but won't let you copy/cut out.
we got the big size file (file A), we fix it then we copy/ paste information (e.g. texts) from the other bad file (file B). File A becomes big size again although texts were copied is simple.
...still happening in 2013...any answers out there? I'm getting pretty tired of redefining blocks (sending the wipeout to the back of the draw order) after pasting them into drawings.
Recently I started using AutoCAD 2012 and I ran into one problem which I didn't encounter before.
The problem is that when I try to paste objects from another drawing (through clipboard - usually another instance of AutoCAD) I can't paste them in some drawings only.
The following things happen:
-Autocad behaves normally like when I usually paste objects except there is nothing inserted. -When I save the drawing after unsuccessful insert, even if I canceled inserting, drawing size increases dramatically (for about 2-4MB). -If I open new drawing, I can insert objects there. -Also when I copy to clipboard, autocad takes a lot of time even if it is only few lines.
I tried these thing to fix issue:
-I checked if there are any layers turned off. -I tried to copy with COPYBASE -I restarted autocad (sometimes it works but only for some moments or for one insert). -I did PURGE and AUDIT -I tried to copy paste in same instance of AutoCAD but that didn't work.
I'm usually using t least 2 instances of AutoCAD (I hope that is not the problem).
Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?
I have a problem with acad files. Almost every time i try copying objects from one acad file to another the program becomes unresponsive. It can be just a line. I am using acad 2007LT. The files usually are edited in acad 2007 LT and newer versions like 2010 and 2011
When i try to copy files the command line displays:
"_pasteclip duplicate definition of block _archtick ignored".
After this message is displayed nothing happens. Left the pc to process more than 15 minutes and still noting. Recently i tried inserting such a file as xref, but no luck. The progress bar gets to 99% and it stops.
File size makes no difference because it happens with small files as well as large. I have to say that this problem doesn't accure to all the files, but the majority have this problem. My colleagues using 2007 lt have the same problem.
When I need to copy something between files I make it a block and use design center to move the block between files.
I'm working on a drawing that has some plan views that I need to keep.. but I would like to import views from another drawing.
Is there a way to copy views from another drawing? Would be nice if when you insert another drawing as a block, it would bring the views along, same way that it brings along blocks, layers, linetypes.. etc.
Is there a way to copy a viewport with all its layers setup from one drawing file to another drawing file?
I can copy the viewport and activate it, but the layers setup for that viewport goes to default. So it turns everything on.
I can't make a layer state in the old file and import in new file, because the new file does not have all the same layers. So not all my layers would be turned off in the viewport.
Normally when I hit move or copy there cursor will change to a square and I can click single items for the command. If I enter "c" on the command line and change to the cross cursor I can select multiple objects by clicking and dragging.
In some drawing the cursor will not change to a square and I can not enter "c" on the command line. I can select single objects but the cursor becomes the standard windows arrow.
Is there a setting / variable in the drawing that can affect this?
I've tried dragging layers across drawings using the design center interface, but what I've noticed is that while the layer in question gets copied over, the layer is empty. The objects within the layer do not get copied over. How do I copy objects AND layers that I've selected across drawings using Autocad Design Center?
I want to set up my drawings so that the title block displays properties from the model. I want to set this up so there will be drawing properties to extract into Vault. So I want to know what other Inventor and Vault users are doing to get model properties into Inventor drawings: Using model properties in the title block and nothing to extract in Vault or Copy model properties so Vault has data to extract.
I want to know what the best in class practice is? What are others doing? I do not want to use iLogic I was out of the box Inventor functionality.
I have a CAD Drawing in 2010 format. I printed the same drawing from two different types of printer. One from HP Officejet K7108 printer and another from HP Officejet 7000 Wide Format Printer - E809a. But the scale of both drawings are not same.
I am having a problem with Autocad12 I am using at a friends office: we both can open, edit, and save the same drawing. This is a real problem as you can imagine. We are running Windows 7 and are using DROPBOX for file storage. DWL are being created but for some reason they are not being used. On the otherhand if I try to open a file I created I do actually get locked out - just not from the other computer.
Just did a test - when I log in directly to the hard drive instead of the network it locks me out if I attempt to load it. If I login through DROPBOX it does not.
how I can have autocad recognize the lock files in DROPBOX folders?
Im using AutoCAD 2012 and am trying to publish a set of drawings to PDF but when i do it cuts off some of my title block, but when I plot to PDF the drawing is fine.
I am new to autocad, i wanted to know if i can convert 2d drawings to 3d ?. I work in the aluminum openings industry making doors and windows, i have all my aluminum profiles drawing in 2d.dwg and i want to convert it to a 3d model and then extrude it for a certain length so that it look like an aluminum profiles bars ?
I draw several different drawings in the same dwg file - just offset from each other in the XY-plane.
I want to bring these together on top of each other to form the complete picture, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this in an easy way. If it was a one time thing I would just use the Move command, but the goal is also for the combined picture to be updated as the separate drawings are changed - not realtime - but maybe in some x-ref kinda way.
The whole thing would be easy if the separate drawings were also separate files, but as they are not I'm not sure how to solve it...
I'm currently running AutoCAD LT 2013, and I've been asked to compare two dwg files; one has been drawn using LT 2013 and the other has been drawn using an older version of the software.
Is there any way or any plug that can be used in LT 13 to compare the two drawings?
I've looked online and the only program i can find is Furix but that doesnt allow for usage on the LT version of autoCAD.
I worked in a drawing(#1) a few weeks ago and since then have copy pasted the drawings to be scaled at 1 1/2" into another drawing(#2) and have since been only working in this drawing(#2).
In the original drawing(#1), I was able to scale my drawings at 1 1/2" without any problems but in my second drawing(#2), when I try to scale drawings at 1 1/2" all of my annotative bubbles get ridiculously small.
Once having discovered this, I copy pasted my second drawing'(#2) components into a 'Copy' of my original drawing(#1), thinking that my second drawing(#2) file might have been contaminated, but with no luck because I could see that within the Same viewport scaled at 1 1/2" the original drawing(#1) was scaled properly but the second drawing'(#2) symbols became very small.
I have a huge site plan and almost all the layers are at different Z-axis values...I have read up the previuos threads on flattening and tried out the different lisps. While some lines are working...others are not changing and I cant proceed with such a messed up file....is there any other way out of this?..
My friend is a qualified architect that has a limited knowledge of Autocad. He has been able to complete the drawings. He is using Autocad 3.3 and is having trouble placing text into his drawings and sizing it. How to achieve this or point me specifically to a tutorial that addresses this. I am aware it probably is a language issue and I don't understand the comand prompts and process.
I work with autocad 2011 and my problem is the following.
When my 3D vieuwport is properly set in my layout page. I try to plot my layout. when i've compledet my plotsettings I first check out that everyting is ok. and evrything looks great. but when I plot everything is plotted exept the 3D drawing. althoug the 3d drawing is shown on the plot preview. (look at pdf's to see what I mean).
While making a drawing and there is something which I want to turn visibilty of for a while, I will select from a sub-menu "Visibility" (see the attachment) But what I must do if I want to turn the visibility on again for example to that hole shown in screen shot?
As Autodesk has not made changes that prevent excess registered application ID's from spreading from xref to sheets, I am guessing many companies have the issue and do not know it.
Its been a while since I worked with a crowd of highway designers whose attitude was AutoCad was AutoCrud (I was offended too), but I would bet the crop of people doing caltrans work is a bit new to the wild west of dwg issues.
I would encourage some of you out there to try this code on your drawing and see if you get more than say, 4000:
(vla-get-count (vla-get-registeredapplications (vla-get-activedocument (vlax-get-acad-object))))You can also run that on dwg's without opening fully in the editor, if you want to list app id counts for entire projects fast.
Simply cleaning app ids is not good enough to deal with the problem, you must discover where they come from, and catching them dirty is the best way. It alsways some consultant...never H&A though..Maybe if the Caltrans group discovers the issue, we can get movement by Autodesk on a real fix. They have done ok at cleaning tools so far, but its a big waste of time and file space. I'm using Cad 2011,how do u generate 2D drawings from a 3D object,i know that the command only works on layout n on 2013 the command is "Base".So wat is it on 2011?
I am using 2D-AutoCAD, and trying to plot a drawing on a printer, the drawing is different colors and I want to print it black on white paper, I am unable to select the proper .ctb file from the Plot Style Table pulldown, it does not show up? I have plotted other drawing sets using this method but for some reason cant do it on this particular set.
How or where to go to find out how to convert Autocad LT drawings into programs our CNC machining centers can use? Autocad assured me it would do this when we bought it. I just can't seem to find any info on it.
I'm running Map 2014 SP1 on my machine and the rest of the users in our organization are running Map 2013.
If I save a drawing back to a dwg 2010 version all is fine, but if I save the same drawing to a dwg 2013 version other users are not able to activate and query from it, even though they are otherwise still able to open and work with the drawing.
Is it possible to persist a custom object within CAD at a per drawing level? Basically we want to create a web service that pulls in a project name / project number etc etc from our project management software and persist this to the cad drawing itself so it is available when reopened?
