AutoCAD 2013 :: . How To Open Dataset Files To Export Simple Line Drawing
Oct 5, 2012
I have a data set including .shx .shp .prj and .dbf files each named the same for landuse, rail, road, etc for a single city. How can I open these files to export a simple line drawing for use in a thesis project as a map.
I'm wanting to do something seemingly very simple but I've never tried working with pictures before other than to resize or crop. How do I convert a simple picture to a line drawing?
Iused DXFOUT as below to reduce file size. It works well so I want to create a script for that.
Type DXFOUT to export to DXF file.Open the newly created DXF file and run PURGE > ALL, -PURGE > REGAPPS and AUDIT. SaveAs the DXF file back into a DWG file.
The problem is when we use dxfout, it will export to a DXF file but still open DWG file. It means we have to open that DXF file to fix. Cannot use 1 script to do that.
I try this script to save as to dxf, save as will open that DXF automatically and continue with purge, audit but the file size not change.
saveas dxf 16
-purge r
n audit y saveas 2007
y
I think the problem is the different between saveas and export.
I am working with an action macro to be able to use the EXPORT PDF option (save into current folder as DWG with no user input) / save the current drawing / and close.
At present i am able to get the macro to export the pdf and then (user input to directory to save and to overwrite the previous file) then save the file but cannot close the drawing.
I'm in AutoCAD 2013. I've been working on a drawing everyday (was just working on it yesterday), but can't open it now. I just get a blank gray screen when I open if from within AutoCAD. When I open it from my computer drive while AutoCAD is closed, AutoCAD opens and I get "Drawing1.dwg." I've tried the RECOVER command, but I don't get a response. I tried RECOVERALL command which let me choose a file to recover, but it responded saying it could not recover the drawing.
I have a 3D model. I'm making drawing view, using "create view" task. Now, when i got my view in layout, I choose "edit view" and set appearance to "hidden lines". Ok. When I plot my drawing, i get all lines with the same line weight - visible and invisible lines are all the same weight. How can I make invisible (hidden) lines to be plotted thinner, while visible lines stay thick? Do Autocad 2013 have this option to make it available to change?
Floating command line width gets shorter and shorter everytime you open up AutoCAD? Civil 3D is real bad, I used it to shoot the above video. In regular AutoCAD, it still shrinks, but it shrinks a lot less.
Any tips for keeping it floating but making the width stay constant?
A colleague was working on a drawing yesterday in AutoCAD 2013 when it crashed. Since then the drawing has refused to open in AutoCAD 2013. It also does not open Trueview. It will however open in previous version of AutoCAD. We tried to export it to .dxf as well but they are corrupt. We also tried to attach it to a new drawing as an Xref and as a block, both were met with an instant fatal error and the closure of AutoCAD.
We have tried auditing, purging, resaving, using backs-ups. None of them will open in AutoCAD 2013 any more. The drawing closes without attempting to open with no error messages. It just loads up the default drawing(x).dwg.
When opening a drawing that turns out to already be open by someone else, the "Open as read-only" warning isn't showing up for one of our users. This is becoming confusing and in the end someone's change will not take. Is there a setting that may be turned off?
When I set a layer as current, every object or line I select in the drawing appear to be on that layer in the toolbar. Although in the properties toolbox, I see that the line I selected is still on the right layer.
I can't work in paperspace either, when I freeze a layer it freezes all objects. It seems like whenever I give a different layer to an object, it attributes to all object that same layer.
When I open the same drawing in acad 2008, everything is ok, the objects have the proper layers.
Is there a command for that or it's an acad 2013 problem?
My firm is starting a project....the Structural side is going to be don in Revit 3d and our Mechanical side uses Autocad w/Cadworxs for our 3d package. Is it possible to export the Revit steel drawing and import that model into Autocad as an xref?
I created a new line type from a shape file. When i drew this linetype and then exported the drawing to pdf, I received the error message in the picture. It said the SHX files are missing, but when I looked in the folder, the SHX files were still there.
When export to pdf completed, I was left with a broken shape shown in the attached pdf.
The company I work for is looking into buying new AutoCAD software due to upgrading computers. We don't use 3D commands at all and are looking into purchasing the LT version for budgeting reasons. What we are trying to find out now is if you can export and import SHP files from GIS ESRI software. Are you able to edit the SHP files if necessary?
I had resized the File>Open dialog in Inventor. I had resized it so that it was quite large so I realized pretty quickly when I opened another file, that the window size had rest to its original size.
What I found was that if I export a parts list to excel, then go to File>Open, for some reason the size of my file>open dialog is cleared.
I have drawings (some with more than one sheet) from inventor 10. Now I like to open it in inventor 2013. The first sheet is showing, but I can't open the other sheets. I can print them, but I can see a listing of it or go to the sheet.
FYI, until December 2012 I worked in Inventor 10, now I have inventor 2013, so everything is new to me.
Just got the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 AutoCAD. When I opened the file from 2012 to 2013 for editing, my sub-xref file become "Unreferenced". The main Xref is loaded and fine. I tried to reload it but it doesn't work, and only its text path that are shown in there. It seems that the sub-xref file is in the right path when I trying to verify it location. So, what I did was use my old 2010 Autocad to finish my task which work fine. Why my sub-xref is in "unreference"condition using 2013 AutoCAD.?
I don't understand why the right click - open drawing command had to be put in a submenu. Is there a way to customize the commands on these right click menus other than the marking menu? I don't really like the marking menu, and I don't want to put it there. There was nothing wrong with where it was... There are so many commands in the basic right click menu that a good majority of inventor users don't use. At least give us the ability to customize this.
A plotting issue that has never been addressed perplexes me! When working in a paperspace layout and trying to plot or print by window or display, I get a partial print or nothing at all. Typically, I will get a partial print showing the drawing above a diagonal line. This has plagued me through many versions of Autocad.
I recently purchased AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 and all of a sudden when I select "File", and "Open", the dialog box from which I am supposed to select a drawing file has a small "Initial View" box with a small check box to "Select Initial View". This box seems docked to the right side of the "Select File" dialog box but I am unable to select the check box. It seems to do nothing. Is this a glitch?
I'm having an issue with my 2013LT. Everytime I open a new drawing I get a dialog box that says "One or more SHX files are missing. What do you want to do?" The options they give me are "Specify a replacement for each SHX file" or "Ignore and continue".
when I open a drawing that's missing an shx file I get a dialog box (see attached). I put a check mark in the "always perform current choice" item and select the "Specify a replacement for each shx file". I assume this replaces the missing shx file with the default shx file. But if I send the drawing to someone else they get the same message. Did the shx file not get replaced or do I need to do something further?
I have created a drawing template for survey and I need to distribute it to the field crews and eventually put it on the server. The template contains description keys, point styles, point label styles, custom point file formats, figure styles, figure prefix database, line code sets, etc.
How do I transfer all the external files along with the drawing template? Is it a straight forward copy? Etransmit doesn't seem to do it unless additional files are manually included, but I can't figure out what files to include or where they live.
I am looking for a step by step Sheet Set Manager tutorial that includes a dataset since there are many interdependencies that must exist to use certain features. Ideally it would be nice to have videos as well (YouTube is great but there are no datasets and it is too haphazard).
