Can i link several text fields to different layouts in the same DWG? I need to change the same information into several layouts, and it`s taking me too much time to do that.
eg: if i have a field "Smith" in Layout 1, 2, 3, 4 (linked between them) and i want to change from Smith to Johnson , if i change it in Layout 1, it will automatically change it in all Layouts.
When I add an object field in paperspace to report on the scale of a viewport in the layout, as I return to that layout and zoom in or out the viewport displays as hot in MS (tab reports as PS) and leaves the MS information of my previous visit embeded on the layouts neutral background and the "new" zoomed MS information is added to modelspace. The background objects cannot be selected or deleted but if I go to the block editor screen -choosing any block for my selection, when I close the block edit and return to the layout, the objects are cleared. I have installed service pack #1 for v12 and I lso have installed V13. I didn't notice this problem prior to the service pack or usin v13. I have an Intel i7 processor, 64 bit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are a MEP firm, using AutoCAD 2011 and Excel 2007, and our project is a building with 1000+ rooms. Each room has specified supply and return airflows that need to show up in text in each of the rooms. All the airflow values are calculated in a spreadsheet.
My thought is to use fields in the text that shows up in each room, then link each field to a specific cell in Excel, because these values will be evolving over the next year.
in order to avoid opening each layout and update the fields or the same text written in Title Block
- is there a way to update automatically the fields (date for example) in all the layouts with a single command.
- is there a way to update the same text in all the layouts (for example changing the adress or the name of the project written in the title block - like in word with search and replace function)
know if there a way to use fields in a table to pull the measurements out of dimensions snapped in a drawing (or layout) and place them in that table.
I create framing drawings and am looking for a quick way to put together a cut list without having to manually type dimensions into a table.
Is there anyway to link a field text from one layout to another layout? I need something that when I change a title to one layout the other layouts will change automatically.

I would like to link a series of text lines in an autocad drawing to there corresponding fields in an excel sheet, I can not use tables in autocad because of the way other software uses the text in autocad. I have attached files of the text layout in acad and of the sheet in excel. One thing that keeps me from using tables in acad is that every line of text is on a different layer, with tables you can't control the layer of table its always on the current layer.

However, I cannot create a date and time field that updates during a REGEN.
In the attached file, you will see the one that updates (along with a screenshot of the field variables I used), as well as other examples where a date and time field will NOT update (along with a different screen shot)
1. Why this one particular date field will update each time I REGEN
2. Why I CANNOT create a new date field value to update each time I regen
I tried different date field values, but I simply cannnot create a new field that updates with a regen.
I have a project where 60 drawings will be duplicated for each of a dozen sites. Each site has a four digit prefix (i.e. 800X) that is added to the drawing number, equipment callouts, leaders and various notes throughout the sheets. Even using Find/Replace, this is a lot of work to revise every time I copy them, so I’m thinking that this is a job for fields, no?
Well, I had no problem making a “global” field called SiteNo and inserting it into the title block. Then I inserted the same field into a couple of references in the general notes as well, where it works fine. But when I put it into several leaders sprinkled throughout the drawing I found a problem: regen or regen all will update the title block and note references (all in paperspace, of course), but not the ones in model space. I’ve tried putting the field in both mtext and dtext, and I’ve checked to be sure FIELDEVAL is set to 31. Nothing makes fields in modelspace update.
But I know that the field is set up correctly. If I doubleclick any modelspace occurance (text or mleader), then right click and choose “update field”, it fills in the right value. This however negates my goal. If I have to select each one, I might as well put it in as text and use FIND/REPLACE on each individual drawing.
I was REALLY hoping that I could go to the properties of the sheet set, change one box, and see all occurrences in all drawings for that site update, which is my understanding of the purpose and power of fields. I've spent a lot of time searching the web, seen a lot of issues and solutions, but nothing that quite hits my problem.
When we plot full packages for construction documents, we have to provide plot numbers for each sheet to the printing room. This is a completely different number then the sheet number itself....the plot number is basically the actual sheet number within the entire construction document. So if there's 245 sheets in the entire construction document and landscape sheets need to start at 188, is there a way to set up a field that knows how to number accordingly?

When I put the block into paper space the fields fill in properly and if I make changes to the field in the SSM then the block updates properly. If I insert the block into model space the fields come in as if they are broken and you cannot reference the data in the SSM. The issue is that I don't want to do my annotation in paperspace, so is there a way to change the interaction between my block with the custom fields and the SSM.

I realize I can turn off background for fields, but I don't want to do that. I want to change the background to a darker grey so one still knows it's a field but easier to read.

I installed service pak2 today and now all of a sudden I am not able to insert fields. I get an AutoCAD warning that says " there are no registered modules to edit fields or demand loading is currently disabled. I have not changed a single setting other then loading service pak. This sheet set is over a 150pgs right now.

I've put in what I thought would be the correct formulas for it, i.e. rise/run.
This would mean putting Z1-Z2 / length, all of which you can get from a line.
But the result comes back showing the X, Y and Z coordinates divided by the length, even though I've only ticked the Z values in the co-ordinates.
I have a ss that I am using & wish to generate a drawing index sheet. I can manually update the fields in the drawing index table on the index drawing, but I would like to have this automatically work for every sheet set I generate.Would I need to use hyperlinking fields for this to work?

It been a while since I did this and I getting something wrong. I want to add custom SS field to my TB which I have created in SSM, but when I edit the block to add the custom field to an attribute default the list is empty.

I have been trying to figure out how to copy a Layout from one DWG to another. I know there are several threads about this, and I have tried the methods they reccomend, but I am having an unusual problem.
I have been trying to open a Layout by using the "from Template" option for creating a new Layout, then opening the DWG containing the desired Layout. It works, but everything drawn in model space ends up compressed into the lower left corner and there is nothing in model space. So, the paper space information from the Layout is being imported, but the drawing info is getting mixed up somehow.
I have tried using the Design Center with identical results.
When I try and import layouts as sheets, the "Prefix sheet titles with file name" is subdued. (AutoCAD MEP 2012)

We've been using DView to rotate site layouts within model space in order to to align the layout better within the window and set up icons as such. And we have multiple Sheets set up with different information being displayed (ie different layers turned off). But when we go to the sheets, the Paper Space view still shows it's Original Orientation.
What I'd like to know is there a simple way to set the various different layouts to the same as Model Space, Without having to manually DView each Viewport as well?
I am trying to organize my drawing in model into different viewports for printing purposes. However, in Layout # 1, once I delete an item it also deletes the item in model space. In Layout # 2, can't edit, select, highlight or anything ( I am in Layer 0). How can I fix that ? Basically, I want to create several layouts, each layout will contain a certain section of my drawing in model space then. I am not "layout savvy", trying to get hang of it.

When I say this, I mean that I want there to be a button, a small msg to type into command line, or any general quick shortcut, to create a new Layout based on a specific template layout that is located on my server. There will be multiple template layouts that the user has the option to choose from when creating a new one, with each layout contianing an xref title block, and a particular size . Also, I would like these to avaiable everytime I open autoCAD, regardless of the current drawing being worked on.
I've looked at Macros and Sheet Sets, but I was wondering if there was an optium way to do something like this? I realize its a failry begginger problem but I am still a begginer at autocad.
I'm trying to edit our titleblocks. There is information we repeat at the top of the drawing like the drawing name, sheet number, total number of sheets, contract number, etc. It is ridiculous to have to type this information in twice. I tried creating both text and constant attributes at the top and insert field pointing to attributes at the bottom but all I get is ---- when inserted. My inserted field was ->Object->(selected attribute)->Value. I am using version 2011. I would think it should be easy to "repeat" values of attributes inside a block.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know I can use the expresion "$(getvar,ctab)" to reference the current layout tab name but is there a way to reference say the layout in previous or next tab in reference to the current tab. I am doing some plan and profile drawings which contain match lines I would like to have the match line text automated. For example if I'm on layout called PP02 there would be two match lines in the drawing one would read MATCH LINE PP01 and the other would read MATCH LINE PP03 I would like to automate this so the PP01 of PP02 is referencing the previous or next tab.
