Revit :: Drafting Pattern To Follow Component's Rotation?

Nov 7, 2013

I would like the pattern to follow the rotation of the component when inserted onto the project.  I can achieve it with model pattern but I would like to use drafting pattern because we need to show them on different scales. The diffuser family consists of a detail family in order to show the pattern.  The pattern is already set to align with object and it still does not work.

Revit :: How Drafting Pattern Origin Is Determined

Aug 13, 2013

I am trying to find out how the drafting pattern origin is determined in Revit 2013.  A model pattern is very easy to adjust, but this is not true of a drafting patterns. How the drafting patterns even determine what their origin is.  Is it centered on a project extents - therefore changing as the model expands, or is it set by a 0,0,0 origin similar to AutoCAD (but hidden).  In an event it does not seem that this origin is adjustable (unless someone out there knows some Revit magic) so perhaps it does not matter, but I would like to know.

I selected a multitude of elements to change from rigid insulation to CMU and all were the same in the fact none could be changed into model pattern.  Heres what I did; I slected an element, then went to the Paint Tool selected Surface Patterns, then Pattern, then Fill Patterns but it wont let me choose model.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pattern Component - Associated Feature Pattern

Jul 31, 2012

I am creating an assembly with my base part being a weldment. I've added other components that mount to my base part. Now I need to add fasteners to the mating components. I have added my first fastener and now want to pattern the said fastener using the "Pattern Component" and by using the "Feature Pattern Select" option and selecting "Associated Feature Pattern". At this point I have already selected the component that I want to pattern and selected the "Associated Feature Pattern" to select my base pattern. The only problem is that I am unable to select the pattern desired.

A note on how my Weldment was constructed -The holes were created in the "machining" step of the weldment, not in the individual part before it was placed in the weldment assembly.

If I move the hole feature and its pattern to the individual part and then place it in the weldment assembly, I can then create an "Associated Feature Pattern" in my assembly file. Why can I NOT create the associated pattern when my hole features are created in the weldment assembly? Or am I missing something?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Give Component Certain Rotation

Oct 19, 2012

I have a code which I want to rotate a part. I have a text parameter 6 and 7. If one of the values is active I want to give the component a certain rotation.

Under the 'Hoekkoppeling' parameter is the angle constraint.

Below the

If Parameter ("KlemHoekstuk-01: 1", "KoppelingType") = 7
Then Hoekkoppeling = 60 deg
ElseIf Parameter ("KlemHoekstuk-01: 1", "KoppelingType") = 6
Then Angle = -60 deg
End If

I now get always an error on the second and fourth line.

I feel that the specify for the value is incorrectly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Bolted Connections Follow Pattern 2013

Nov 5, 2012

I have an assembly comprised of 2 identical parts that have holes in a radial pattern.  The holes were created at the part level, & the holes are obviously in both parts (they are not created by the bolted connection).

I've made a bolted connection using the "By hole" option & I've checked "Follow pattern."  The bolted connection is made without any problems, & the "Follow pattern" populates all the holes as would normally be expected.

However, here's the problem:  the only bolt/nut/washer assembly that appears to be fully constrained is the one on the base hole (by "base hole" I mean the hole that I initially selected).  The other bolts/nuts/washers are not constrained to the holes.  So, I can drag the entire pattern & it spins radially about the axis of the base hole.

I've never seen this ridiculous behavior before IV 2013.

Revit :: Why Basic Drafting Features Don't Seem To Work With Reference Planes

Sep 16, 2011

I am learning to use Revit 2012 and having a hard time figuring out why basic drafting features don't seem to work with reference planes. Aligning more than a few of these one-at-a-time is time consuming - any way to extend multiple reference plane lines to a boundary line or object? I read your instructions for offsetting reference planes - when I select the reference planes button in the home tab, the options bar allows me to set an offset distance but I am at a loss as to how one goes about getting the line to offset - I keep getting the layout dimension when i try to click on the line!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Helical Component Pattern?

Apr 19, 2012

I have a sheetmetal assembly with helical shaped parts. I need to place about 50 little brackets and some corresponding rollers along the length of these helical pieces. The spacing is even so a pattern would be perfect, except I don't know how to get it to follow the shape of the part. The brackets are located to slots in the helical parts which were made with a rectangular pattern in the unfolded state. I tried to do a "feature pattern select" but it only saw the rectangular pattern as it is in the unfolded state (a straight line). I then gave up on patterns and started working on manually mating them into place but realized that the geometry of the slot was distorted (theory) and didn't leave me with any useable surfaces.

Photoshop :: Pattern Along Path With Direction/Rotation?

where a tree is blocking vital building information. I would like to just stroke a selection of the outer arch here along this path. It seems I cannot make the selection into a pattern and stoke that, because it doesn't allow for rotation. So, i converted the selection into a brush, and put angle jitter to "direction" control. But it doesn't work like i would like it. It needs to be a solid stroke. I have spacing set to 1%. I am running CS2/windows. After it is finished i can adjust the color to match the original color.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pattern Component For Unequal Spacing?

Nov 9, 2012

Pattern component is great but sometimes I have to pattern the same part several times to different dimensions in the same direction.  For example: I have a part that has to go the left 26', then again at 29" and then again at 37".  Other than manuallly constraining this 3 different times I've had to Pattern Component the first one at 26", then change the 2nd one to Independent.  Then Pattern component that one to the 29" dimension.  Change that 2nd one to Independent and pattern component that one to 37".  It saves a lot of time but if I have to increase the model they are going on I have to start all over.  Is there a command or something that will do this?  I understand that a pattern is equal lenghs so maybe I am looking at the wrong command for what I am needing to do.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Circular Component Pattern And Maintain Orientation

Oct 4, 2012

my create a circular pattern in an assembly that maintains the orientation of the part being patterned.

This is for foundation plates. There are 3 plates. The plates are square, and have bolt holes in the corners of the plates. Since there are 3 plates and its going around a circle, the angle between the plates is 120 degrees.

Now, Ive been trying this for some time now and what is happening is the firs plate is fine, but then the second and third plate are rotated around their center axis. I would like it to simply remain as inserted and constrained within the assembly.

I have attached a picture to be more clear about what I want and what I'm currently getting.

Revit :: Using Symbols As Component / Model Families?

May 16, 2012

I am trying to produce a Camera symbol to indicate the position of where a photograph has been taken on a site plan. I also want to be able to rotate the symbol to indicate the direction of the view and further to have a horizontal tag that shows the photograph number. Therefore I have been trying to create two families, a Camera Symbol and a Camera Tag so that the former can rotate and carry other information such as Date, Title etc., whilst the later needed to be kept horizontal. In trying to do this I started trying to create a 2D Model Family for the Camera but you cannot, it appears, to create a 'filled region' in a model family but it does appear that you can have a Symbol imported into the family. This I have tried to do by creating a Camera Symbol but when imported it remains invisible despite the visibility setting for annotations being set to visible. Since an annotation cannot reference an annotation, is there any way that I can create a Camera Symbol that does what I wish?  I feel that I might be missing something fundamental.
