Is it possible by importing a drafting view or copying 2D details, to not duplicate the detail components families ? I tried many ways, but I always get my families duplicated.
Copying 'Gypsum' will always duplicate with 'Gypsum1', even if they are exacly the same original family.
I am making a detail library for the company. When I make my own detail components my element keynote doesn't staywith the component even though I have done new entries to the keynote text and updating everything with the new path gone into the materials and assigned the keynote and the main library file uses the new path to the keynotes. Yet everytime I bring in something new that I have created. I have to resassign the keynote. But if I bring in one of revits detail components, the keynote is right there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create an Island family with cabinet components nested into the island family. I have included both a 3D view of what I want the island to look like and a floor plan of what I have right now. I want to be able to adjust the size of each of these cabinets with a parameter. But I am not sure how to get them to stay lined up like they are right now.
If I change the size to a larger size the center cabinet overlaps the cabinet on the right. but if I add another reference plane to the right side of the center cabinet, when I try to adjust the size I get an error message saying "Constraints are not satisfied".
I'm having trouble editing a family I've made. It's a profiled rim for a crate that needs room for a latch. So I need to create a small spacing in the rim so that the latch can fit. I've tried to cut geometry, and edit the family (rim) itself, but I need to edit it in an elevation view and not floor plan.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRevit 2013: Was playing around with sketching symbolic lines in a Generic Model family. I added a line and changed its LOD to be visible in fine only. Nevertheless, it was still visible in the family editor even when the view was set to coarse.
1) How can we verify visual behavior of a family while in the family editor if the objects visibility is not governed by LOD settings? (BTW: The family performs correctly when loaded in the project, just not in the family editor).
2) Is the fact that LOD is ignored in the family editor by design or a bug?
3) Is there any visual cue that tells us that a particular line will be not visible at a LOD?
4) Should we be duplicating Ref. Level views in the family to keep things straight?
I've created a family that represents a poke-through with nested, shared families for different components. Everything visible in plan is made with Symbolic lines instead of Generic Annotations. The reasons being too numerous to explain here.
The problem I'm running into is that the family looks fine when the View Discipline is set to Architectural but when set to Electrical (1/8" scale in both) part of the shared components begin to get masked. I cannot figure out why they are behaving this way, except that some of the lines are creating some sort of masking area in the Electrical discipline. When the nested families are not shared the component looks fine in both disciplines. I've attached images and the family for you to try.
I've been doing some family as an independent construction detail revit model, I think that is the most appropriate type of detail component. Graphically everything right but I encounter the following problem, all built to type text is not visible in the project then.
How do you control the display? or do you like I can put a text in a detail component family? and if not visible... why would have the option of make texts? Is the only option to annotate after in the project insertion?
Is there a way to load, for example, a wall created in a different project, into another project?

It has a curve. basically what I have done is created the line work on plan but now I want to use that curved line to create my family. which I am thinking I can create a profile and then sweep it on those lines. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do the travel distance plan for fire cert saftey plan (Ireland). I have 6 levels of plan. When I place a component of "travel distance" family symbol (that I created) on the top floor plan, it is showing on the ground floor plan but not inbetween (TG).

When I try to add a window or door, I get a message: "No doors family is loaded in the project..etc etc" and then I try to go and find a default template file to use which I assume has basic families loaded, I can't find any anywhere. I'm stuck at step 1, already.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a project-file for a table that I've made as a family. In the project file I want to dimension the table, as a whole and as the differents parts of the table.
I've made visibility parameters in the family, but my problem is that that will hide that part of the table, i.e. the legs, in all views. I want to have one section with only the table top, one section with only the legs etc.
how I would go about this without copying the table in the project file and hiding different parts in each of them?
Can revit have duplicate family names. or family names are unique in a project.

My Problem: Revit wont allow me to place a FamilyInstance of this family inside a (Architectural) project. When I click Architecture Tab->Component->Place a Component and select my Family I get a circle with a cross in it and are not able to place my family instance anywhere. Note this occurs in all levels/views from Site to Level 1, 2 etc.
why I can place it in a project?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to align a nested family to a reference line in my host family so that it rotates around a certain point.
I've created the reference line in my host family, locked the end point to two reference planes and then gave an angular parameter to the angle between the ref. line and the ref. plane.
I then inserted the nested family and aligned it to the ref. line. The problem is that when I flex the angle, i get a "Constraints not satisfied" error..
What could be wrong?
I'm using a generic face based family for both host and nested families...

Currently, all the changes are in the copy, but the detailed history of changes is not there. This precludes making the same backward steps that one could do with the original.
I recently downloaded a .SAT part from 3dcontentcentral.com and i would like to use it in an assembly i am creating. Problem is, once i pulled it into Inventor, I am unable to edit the part to match the dimensions necessary for my assembly. How do i go about editing this part? Is there a way that i can copy the components of the part and paste into a new drawing, save as a normal part, then edit? I have attached a screenshop of the part so you can see the Model tree.
p.s. I would simply redraw the part, however i am having a lot of difficulty getting it to look as i want it to.
I can find a method to copy a Design View to a Level of Detatil (DesignViewRepresentation.CopyToLevelOfDetail)
But the opposite way (i.e. LevelOfDetailRepresentation.CopyToDesignView) doesn't seem to exist - it is possible in the GUI.
Will I have to traverse the complete structure and set visibillity one by one to obtain the function then? Or are there a better/faster way to go?

I go to components and I only have 3 items in the drop down list; termination board, construction trailer and metal support. How can I add a bath to the components list? The bath doesn’t work for all those families. I’ve added a bath to my project browser screen and dragged it in from there but I would like it to be in the components drop down lists. How do I do this? I’m using revit 2013. may be a very simple solution but it has had me stuck for some time

I would like to schedule all the casework with quantities of each component. But the current schedule has a graphic representation next to the quantities but it is not in revit and the quanties are determined manually by counting them. I know there is a add on you can purchase to create dynamic legends but is there a way to do this directly in Revit?
