Premiere Pro :: Prevent Capturing Process From Splitting Up Source Material Into Short Clips?
Feb 11, 2014
Capturing: I have a continuous miniDV tape that I am capturing, but Premiere keeps interrupting the capturing and makes short multiple clips...I have tried it with both Scene Detect ON and OFF. I just want the miniDV tape to play and to have one continuous file. How do I prevent the capturing process from splitting up the clip?

I zoomed in on previous clips double clicking the timeline monitor and using the four corners tool. However, now when I drag clips in, they become distorted and zoomed in. How can I reset the monitor to match the source monitor?

What's the best format to use when transferring VHS tapes to my p.c? I've tried AVI but an average tape takes up to 400Mb on my hard drive which seems excessive. The VHS tapes mainly have films and documentaries the majority of which will be deleted once I've watched them on my PC.

Whilst after a discussion yesterday Adobe know of and are dealing with an error when splitting video clips in PS CC ( I have a temporary fix). I have also come across another potential issue in splitting video clips - it appears that an individual clip can only be split twice. What is the theoretical number of times PS CC will allow a clip to be split?

Basically, I want to use part/pieces of several project files already created, i.e. to combine the chosen sections into one new project file. Have looked in the Manual and cannot locate the answer! I am now using Prox5.

I've been trying to set up an automated process for capturing JPG's and merging them -without user input- to an HDR and then save it to an OpenEXR file.
The capture process is functioning correctly, but I need someone to explain me this:
How do I tell photoshop (with Javascript or VBScript) to merge the contents of, let's say, 'C:HDRJPEG' to a HDR, without attemping to align, and then save it to 'C:HDRHDR.exr' ?
I am using Photoshop CS2 on Windows XP. I don't understand the scripting langages completely

I have just taken some short video clips and put them together in a 3min 40 second video. When I tried to save it to my desktop the rendering took a little over an hour. This is my first try so I am really a newbie Is it normal to take that long to render? I was planning on making 20 to 40 minute videos but at an hour for every 3 minutes it may not work.

I'm trying to produce a 5 minute sports highlight video. It will be a mix of clips shot on my HDC-SD10 camcorder and clips pulled from a 1.5 hour game video on DVD. I am running Corel VideoStudio Pro X4.
Immediate challenge is importing clips from the game video on DVD. I don't want to download the entire game from the DVD just to pull 5 five-second clips. Unfortunately, entire game is one "chapter" on the DVD, so I can't just import a particular chapter. I've looked through the Corel manual, but can't find anything. How can I pull short clips from one long file?

I've been working the last 6 months with 4 GH2s and ran into some strange troubles when initially importing them to the timeline. 2 hour shots are divided into 6 or 7 different files, and when brought into PP the first clips audio was assigned to all the other remaining clips. This was pretty strange, but I fixed it by using TSmuxer. It was added time in the workflow/set up, but in the end I could produce;
The latest update of PPCC now combines the entire 2 hours of footage into each of the 7 files being imported. So it is importing 2 hours of footage 7 times for each camera. The conforming is taking forever! For 4 cameras it's conforming 14 hours of footage each, when it should literally be a 7th of that.
It is taking up large amounts of time and disk space.

I have created a short film using numerous clips. The footage is shot with a ratio of 16:9 and this is how it is viewed on my PC.
However if I export it to any format other than MPEG the first and last second of each clip stretches horizontally and then returns to the correct ratio (see images). I have tried every possible conversion with no luck. It is always the first and last second of a clip and happens for every clip in the film. The only time it doesn't happen is with the title templates.

I do sometimes buy some objects at Turbosquid that I download as .obj files.
They are represented as a single mesh object in Maya, however when I look the material of this mesh, I see different tabs representing the different sections of the mesh with the different materials (e.g. a duck would be seen as 1 mesh, but 1 material for the body, 1 for the left eye and 1 for the right eye).
How to split up this mesh in different meshes by material ?

I can't find how to render a short segment on the timeline. I did read your suggestion but the squared parenthesis + alt doesn't mark anything. There is no draggable thing to mark a segment like you had on previous versions of Adpbe Premier. I can't find anything in the pull down menus. Your terms in the explanations are not clear either, You need a simple diagram of your own interface with a glossary of words you use to name your tools. This is basic. I have a problem with rendering anything more then 4 seconds at a time too, so I am really up the creek here with a 40 minute film to edit.

I have recently upgraded to Smoke 2012 sp2 and have a small issue regarding the reordering of my clips in the source area.
On 2011 when you placed clips in the source area in a specific order and saved it to the library and when you recalled it from the library it would put the clips back in exactly the same place you left them. Now in 2012 when you do that it re-orders them in some sort of chronological order.
Is there a setting that I'm not aware of that will stop doing that as I place them in a specific structure which makes sense to me and is easy to find and understand on large builds, now I'm having to sift through the clips and waste time finding what I did last and checking through versions to find the latest one.

Is it possible to prevent timeline markers from responding to a ripple delete? On a film project it's not an issue, but when I do broadcast work, a lot of times I need to hit specfic moments in time, like 28:30 for a half hour show. I'll add a timeline comment mark to that point in time, but later, due to a lot or ripple deleting, that marker has shifted drastically. Right now the only work around I found is to add an ajustment later on an unused track and lock the track. But this gets to be a pain if I need multiple markers.

When exporting a sequence from Premiere Pro CC, you are able to toggle between 4 drop down options within Adobe Media Encoder on what Source Range you'd like to export (Work Area, Sequence In/Out, Entire Sequence, Custom) as seen here:
Is there a way to set the default Source Range to something besides Sequence In/Out?
My reason for asking is that sometimes I export multiple sequences at once using AME's Queue. I add my custom presets to each Sequence and hit export, but SOMETIMES I may have accidentally marked an in point on my timeline and by default it's set to export only that In-to-Out part of the sequence.
I know what you may be thinking...well, just don't add any In/Out points to your sequence on the timeline or clear them first. The trouble is that I often don't see them or catch them when working quickly. In Premiere Pro CC, I use the "Lighter Brightness" Appearance setting because it's easier on my eyes after editing 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Sure, darker looks cooler, but it kills my eyes for some reason. Anyway, PPro CC has a troublesome appearance issue in CC where it's not "optimized" for editing when you change it to a lighter appearance like it was in CS6. I've already contacted Adobe about this and another appearance issue (involving highlighted clips when in Lighter Appearance setting) and they are "actively working on fixing this appearance issue asap".
For reference, here's Premiere Pro CC in/out points in default dark appearance (notice the slightly lighter grey area):
Now here's that same in/out in "Lighter Appearance":
Not exactly optimized. Can hardly see it. This affects in/out points in the Source Window as well. Really hard to see.
Conversly, CS6 looked the best (the blue REALLY stands out making things easy to see):
is there a way to set the default "Source Range" to something else besides Sequence In/Out so that I don't end up doing what I just did and leaving for several hours while batch exporting only to come back and find that I exported only a "portion" of one of my big sequences?

Normally when I edit, I use pluralize, which creates a sequence in which I can take notes. I usually then drag that sequence into my source monitor, create in and out point and place that into my final timeline. For some reason, Premiere is not letting me drag the file I need into the source monitor. Is there something with the settings off?

After installing the trial version of Premeire Pro I've been trying to make a quick test video using an MP4 file on my computer. I've been able to successfully import this file into Premeire however I am unable to see this video in the Source Monitor and the Program Monitor (after having added it to a sequence). I've tried re-encoding the file in AVI and WMV formats however neither of these two worked either. I've also tried just bringing in JPG and PNG images and have be unsuccessfully in viewing these as well. I have however been able to export a still image using the Monitors. So far after about 3 hours of googling the only possible answer to this issue I have been able to find is that Premeire requires 2 seperate harddrives to work; However this seems inaccurate as the program has made no attempt to warn me or even check to see if the computer I am using it on had 2 hard drives during install and start up, nor do I remember seeing it in the listed minimum requirements on the Adobe website. I am more than happy to view a lower quality preview so long as I can actually see what I am doing before rendering in a higher quality.

I really want to be able to use the new Synchronize feature of PP (Clip > Synchronize), but I tried selecting two video clips (a video clip, and two audio tracks), and right-clicking, but the option to Synchronize is greyed out. If I select certain clips, then it appears, but I don't see what the pattern is. It seemingly picks random clips to not sync.

I've been working on a project that involves 45 separate clips. I have cut the unwanted stuff out of each clip - was a lot easier than I thought - just dragged the start and end point icons. So now I have 45 clips which just need joining together. When I shot all the footage and uploaded it to my computer the file I saved as Clip 1 may not be what I want to start the movie with. How do I go about shuffling the order of the clips and combining them all into one to form my movie - and when I join two clips together does Premiere Pro automatically join the sound.
