Photoshop :: How To Create A Web Optimized Jpg With A Well Preserved Smooth Gradient

Sep 19, 2002

how to accomplish creating a web optimized graphic with a smooth gradient using PS7.

it seems that you will not be able to generate such a graphic using the default settings in photoshop.

I am right now using the maximum number of colors allowable in the 'save for web' optimization tool (which is 256 for both jpg and gif apparently) I know JPGs are the file type for the job generally speaking, but without optimization the JPG is too large to use for a web page header.

Photoshop :: Smooth Gradient

Mar 15, 2004

I'm an architectural photographer and I use a lot of dusk skies in my images. I am having a problem with the gradual lightening of the sky. Instead of an even lightening there is a distinct hard edge at some point in the transition from dark sky to light. I am running Windows 2000, Photoshop CS with 2 GB of ram. what I can do or change settings in PS.

Photoshop :: Save For Web Optimized Vs. Save As Baseline Optimized

Oct 2, 2007

When saving images for the web, I know that it is best to..

file>save for web>save it as a jpeg high 60, depending on what kind of image> and make sure the optimized button is checked...

I was told that there is not point in saving images just as...

file>save as> and then choosing 12 on the quality bar which is titled 'image options' under the JPEG OPTIONS pop up which appears when doing this.

1. What is the difference. Why does saving for web make the image size so much more smaller. I tried test and it doesn't seem the quality changes so what makes the image smaller in size when saving for web?

2. Is saving like this

file>save for web>save it as a jpeg high 60, depending on what kind of image> and make sure the optimized button is checked...

the same thing as saving like so

file>save as> and then CHOOSING 8 on the quality bar (this is also jpeg high) which is titled 'image options' AND CHOOSING BASELINE OPTIMIZED UNDER THE SECTION WHICH IS TITLED 'FORMAT OPTIONS'....

baseline optimized being the most important part.

Photoshop :: Creating A Smooth Gradient Without Banding

Sep 21, 2006

I shot a TV set and we decided to add a white to transparent gradient on the otherwise black TV screen to create depth for shaping.

What I did was create a circular gradient in the top left corner of the TV set. It has been set to go from White to Transparent. Then I reduced the opacity to around 40% to make it seem more realistic. The problem is that there are very visible bands from where it starts to where it fades out. These are visible from 100% opacity and downwards. I want the transitions to be smooth smooth smooth My Layer Blend mode is set to normal Will changing the blend mode help? I did try to use different blend modes and nothing changed.

I'm Using CS2 9.0.2 on Powerbook with Cinema Display

AutoCad :: Gradient Transition Is Not Smooth Enough?

Aug 5, 2013

I have a rectangle to which I need to apply a gradient fill - from red to white (paper color).
While this is easy enough, I'm not really happy with the result. I expect the transition from the gradient to the actual paper color to be nearly invisible, but instead I can quite clearly see where the rectangle ends and the actual white paper begins. how to make this transition more smooth?

Filling it in with a color 3. Then to Edit > Transform > Skew.  Then I pull in show corners, push some out. Now the edges look horrible.

Illustrator :: Masks Not Being Preserved Through Printing?

Aug 7, 2013

I created a logo in Illustrator (CS6), then used a mask to cover parts of it.

Next, I placed the logo into the flyer on InDesign.

Everything works fine until I export it to a PDF, where the part that is masked shows up as opaque.

I checked in Acrobat -- the mask is preserved on there. My concern, however, is that I want to publish the flyer digitally as well.

Illustrator :: How To Create A Smooth Line

Mar 21, 2013

having an issue lining up letters to create a smooth line.

Using Myriad Pro text. The letters in question are 'n' and 'h' - both lowercase. Also working in CS6.

Hopefully these pictures will explain the issue:

When viewed actual size (100x)

When viewed zoomed (400x)

So my question is: is there a way to align them perfectly? or a is this known to be impossible in illustrator? Is there a workaround?

Photoshop :: (PDF) Acrobat X Save Optimized Option?

Oct 14, 2012

When using the "Save Optimized" dialog in Adobe Acrobat X, we can see that Acrobat strips out a LOT of stuff from the document to make the size as manageable as possible. But I can't for the life of me find the checkbox corresponding to whatever it is that strips LINKS from the document.

When I use the "Save Optimized" option, then try to view the document in Reader, I can see the cursor change to a hand when it hovers over what SHOULD be a link, but there's no url attached to the link anymore. Clicking does nothing. "Save Optimized" kept the link there, but stripped the info of where the link is supposed to take the user.

what to uncheck to make sure links remain intact after a "Save Optimized"?

This breaks thousands of our documents when publishing to pdf since we have upgraded from X3 to X6. This is a show stopper for us using X6.

Photoshop :: How Can I Create A Gradient Blur?

Mar 3, 2009

I want to create a blur effect that starts from one edge of a photo and gets stronger (more blurred) as it goes away from that point. This specific effect only needs to travel in one direction, so it doesn't need to be circular.

I don't want to use the method of creating a second copy of the photo on a separate layer, blurring it, and using a gradient on a layer mask, because this doesn't achieve the effect I'm looking for, since you can still see some of the non-blurred image under the blurred one.

Photoshop :: How To Create A Saturation Gradient

I want to create a gradient that only affects saturation, Example: I have an image that I want to hint at perspective in. I want the objects farther back in space (top) to be less saturated and those closer to the foreground (bottom) to be more saturated. I'm assuming I can do this with an adjustment layer and I've tried messing around with it, but it seems that I have to set colors to create a gradient but I don't want to affect the native colors at all, I just want to change their saturation. I'm not talking about going from B&W to color. I want to be able to set a particular level of desaturation grading to another level of saturation up to 100%.
