Photoshop :: Creating A Smooth Gradient Without Banding
Sep 21, 2006
I shot a TV set and we decided to add a white to transparent gradient on the otherwise black TV screen to create depth for shaping.
What I did was create a circular gradient in the top left corner of the TV set. It has been set to go from White to Transparent. Then I reduced the opacity to around 40% to make it seem more realistic. The problem is that there are very visible bands from where it starts to where it fades out. These are visible from 100% opacity and downwards. I want the transitions to be smooth smooth smooth My Layer Blend mode is set to normal Will changing the blend mode help? I did try to use different blend modes and nothing changed.
I'm Using CS2 9.0.2 on Powerbook with Cinema Display
I recently started noticing very bad gradient banding when using the gradient tool. It's specifically bad when using darker colors. I also noticed when using the blur filter I get banding with dark colors also. I am working on 16 bit document. Â [URL]..........
here is a screenshot of what I am seeing. My color mode is RGB Color 16 bit Color profile SRGB  Here are my computer stats  iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB Serial Number C02H96AUDHJP Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)
How the heck can I remove banding from light gradient? I watched over 100 tutorials about this and yet not a single one works for my case! I have a light set in dark red color over a solid layer. That creates a color gradient. But it's so blocky that messes up the whole video.  My color depth is 32 bpc. I tried adding noise 5-10% (result:nothing) I added some boxing blur (result:nothing)  In preview color seems (not sure about that) to be ok but when saving it into mp4 then Ι get everything messed up.
My output options: H.264 24 frames profile: high level:4 bitrate settings:vbr,1pass
I don't know what to do!! I want a smooth gradient light on the solid layer without all this blocky look! why is it so difficult to have?!
I'm an architectural photographer and I use a lot of dusk skies in my images. I am having a problem with the gradual lightening of the sky. Instead of an even lightening there is a distinct hard edge at some point in the transition from dark sky to light. I am running Windows 2000, Photoshop CS with 2 GB of ram. what I can do or change settings in PS.
how to accomplish creating a web optimized graphic with a smooth gradient using PS7.
it seems that you will not be able to generate such a graphic using the default settings in photoshop.
I am right now using the maximum number of colors allowable in the 'save for web' optimization tool (which is 256 for both jpg and gif apparently) I know JPGs are the file type for the job generally speaking, but without optimization the JPG is too large to use for a web page header.
I have a rectangle to which I need to apply a gradient fill - from red to white (paper color). While this is easy enough, I'm not really happy with the result. I expect the transition from the gradient to the actual paper color to be nearly invisible, but instead I can quite clearly see where the rectangle ends and the actual white paper begins. how to make this transition more smooth?
For a school project I was to render an everyday object and I chose a pepper. I created the pepper with the mesh tool and also rendered it with the gradient mesh, now my instructor says that I need to have really smooth curves but I have way too many anchor points so I don't know how to fix the curves.
I created a gradient using the gradient tool. If you look at the image I supplied, you can see a clear line between the white background and the -what is supposed to be- white bg color of the gradient. Why is this not smoother?
I need an image on my website with a transparent background. I first tried creating this as a gif, but it looked horrible over my website background image. Then I tried saving it as a png, which looked much better, but it has jagged edges. What is the right way to create a transparent image in PS so that it will have smooth borders? It is basically a circle, about 60 px wide, with a solid color in the center and a border of about 2 px. Nothing fancy. It looks perfect in PS but once I embed it on my page over the background image, it looks a mess.
Up to now, I have been unable to find a tool within PSPX3 to do the following:
Suppose I have loaded a .JPG file into PSPX3. Now I want to draw a smooth curve on this picture by picking a suitable set of points in the picture that will be connected smoothly with a nice curve. All I am able to perform is drawing a somehow ragged curve by (approximately) moving the cursor along the envisioned curve, but this ends up just looking awful. From my math studies, I remember something that is called a (B-)spline curve. Is there any version of PSPX... that allows (B-)spline curves? Similar/easier: simple polygons?
Been chatting with an architect in my office, and he was asking me if we could make our TIN surfaces smooth. I cannot find a way, would it take a 3rd party program? He wants it like the image i attached. How to achieve this with a TIN surface?
When I create a pdf of a shaded 3D object the pdf shows up with pixelated edges. Is there a way to create a pdf of a shaded 3D object with smooth edges as it appears on screen?
I am a first time Autocad user and have spent most of yesterday trying to work through this issue but am still not able to perform this. I have attached an image which on the lower part of the lines shows arcs with large radii which transition to parallel lines in the upper part of the image. Where the two meet there is an abrupt change in angle which I wish to have as a smooth transition from the gradual change in angle of the arcing lines to the parallel straight lines.

This is how the transition between the line segments should look.
I open a new project and add a layer, then create a rounded rectangle, is there a way to fill just that rounded rectangle with a gradient. I keep getting a message that the layer is not directly editable or something. I need to just play with the thing, I'm sure - eventually I'd porbably sort it all out. But I got a job creating a web page for a mortgage company and I wanted some custom buttons with a gradient fill -
What I want to do is make a row of five small thumbnail images that blend into each other. I've got them on five separate layers, and I just want to be able to select the edges of the pictures and create a horizontal gradient that makes the very outer edge almost 100% transparent, and the inner edge of my selection 100% opaque.
I need step by step gradient text instructions for Photoshop WITH TWO CUSTOM COLORS GOING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.
How do I (instead of using the preset color choices) make a custom gradient? I am trying to create text with a top to bottom gradient of green (#228B22) down to aqua (#40E0D0).
I have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image. Â my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately. What steps I should take to make this effect work?
I was making a website and I wanted to make a pattern that looks like one color turning into another color by way of small circles increasing in size. I've created a small mock-up of the type of effect that I want to make, and what is the name of the effect, or how to do it. But for some reason it doesn't let me post the image.

how do I create a gradient using my own colors? I've recently upgraded form CS3 where I was able to just drag a colour swatch onto the gradient slider to set the colour. Now I can't do that. If I try with one of the default colors it works no problem but if I create my own swatch then I get a circle with a line through it saying I can't do it.
How do I create a gradient with paint.net with a photo - a landscape photo, from white on the left going darker to your right with colors being more prominent on the right?
I am trying to creating an eye lid image to for a video. I would like to make two extremely large black circles that are totally opaque at the top and then as the image approaches the bottom there would be a gradation of transparency where at the very bottom of the circles the image is totally transparent.Â
I've been using Corel X4 extensively for the last year to create screenprint designs for the company I now work for. Although some of my designs are extremely complex, they are straight 1-5 colors, which I seperate for printing myself.
My boss has purchased RIP software which I have a vague knowledge of using, however, I have no clue how to actually create the design that would need a halftone print and therefore, have never used the expensive RIP software to print with.
I have a b&w image (greyscale) that i want to colorize based on the greyscale. Some thing the provides a thermal or in this case a colorized pressure map. I
In this case it is a like a stamp. Replacing the blacks with red and down toward blue as on the grey scale.
I'm trying to create a distressed look on an object that has a gradient mesh appliet to it. i've done this with regular objects but never on one with a gradient mesh. one of the steps in this process is to expand the object, but i'm not able to do so because the expand option is grayed out in the drop down menu. Â normally after expanding the object i would use one of the artistic charcoal brushes to create a texture over the object in a different color. then i would select the brush strokes and expand apperance. then, using the pathfinder, i would merge the expanded brush strokes with the expanded object and then delete the brush stokes. what remains is the object with little cut-outs where the texture of the brush strokes used to be. Â however i can't do this because i can't expand the object with a gradient mesh.
After playing with a new install of CS3, I see that there is banding in high value pixels. Yet when I open the same file in CS2, the photo is fine. I use a CRT. On my laptop, both versions work fine.
If I make a 16 bit untagged file with a black/white gradient, there are unacceptable bands throughout.
I've tried all of the options from the Color Management Policies: Preserve Embedded profiles; Convert to working RGB; and OFF. My working space is Adobe RGB.
