Photoshop Elements :: 8 Crashing When Attempting To Open Edit Programs
Sep 20, 2012I received PSE 8 in a bundle with a Bamboo tablet. I loaded it up and have been editing pictures just fine. Yesterday I downloaded and installed some actions from MCP's site and messed with a few of them. Today I downloaded and installed the MCP Facebook actions. I was able to mess around with it a bit along with some other action until after a few minutes I reveived a message from Adobe telling me that it has detected that a program closed unexpectedly and asked if I wanted to send an error report, which I have. I gave it a rest for a while but it is still crashing. I can get into the Organizer but when I attempt to go into any of the edit areas, it will load up and after a few seconds I get the message. Jan 1, 2012I had been given Ulead VS 9 and 10 from a friend who upgraded to X4. Having used and liked those, I tried his X4 and then downloded the trial version for myself. VS X4 is the only consumer program I can find that has audio mixing on playback, so I'm trying to do what I can to be certain that I'm getting a good product.
I make heavy use of multi-trim, speed/time lapse and audio level editing. I leave audio to the last. Due to camera changes, I began with AVI files, but now am using MPEG2, 4:3 740X480 29.97 fps with audio of 48000hz and a bit rate of 256 kbps.
I can edit project files for as long as I want to sit here doing it. Trimming, speeding up and adding as many transitions as I like within a 30 minute project. The preview playback will get a little choppy and often the audio will go out of sync, but if I close the program and re-open it, those problems will usually be corrected. Regardless of whether or not I close and re-open the program, when I begin adding soundtracks and adjust the levels, the program will inevitably pop up an error window and shut down.
I have tried doing all of the video editing and transitions, then creating a single file via "Share", closing the program, re-opening, starting a new project and bringing the new file into the timeline thinking that it wouldn't have to "remember" all the previous editing. From there I would attempt to do audio, but I get the same sesult.
I have uninstalled both all VS programs, removed all remaining folders, and re-downloaded the trial without re-installing 9 and 10. I can still open the vsp files saved in other folders, and I can still edit the video portions, but the program freezes when attempting to edit audio.
I did not have any issues with 9 or 10 until the download of X4. After x4 failed, I went back to 10, which worked for about 3 projects and then failed in the same manner, hence my reasoning for unistalling all programs.
It's almost as though this program makes a folder specifically for edit memory, and when it's full, it's full, and you don't get to edit anymore. Neither can you empty the folder. I've tried the different disc caching and acceleration options given in the manual, but nothing makes any difference.
I have several videos posted on YouTube, all of which were created with VS 9, 10 and a couple with X4. I would prefer to continue using a program that allows audion mix "on the fly". But now I can't even complete a project in VS10.

About 60% of the time when I try to double click a vector smart object instead of opening it up in Illustrator I get an error that says, "Could not edit original smart object because of program error." This most recent time it was a smart object from vector data I copied and pasted from Illustrator into Photoshop.

Lightroom :: CS5 Edit Preferences

My problem is that in Lightroom 4.2 in Edit Preferences, the top panel "Edit in Photoshop" is "Edit in Photoshop CS5" and I cannot find a way to change this to CS6.True, I can choose CS6 as my Additional External Editor, but what I need is to have Photoshop CS6 as my MAIN editor. (At the top of the Edit - Preferences list.

Same thing happens when in Lightroom I choose" Photo, Edit in."The top choice (and the Ctrl+E)Â is CS5 again. I can list CS6 as an alternative, but it's not what I want..I get Photoshop CS5 opening automatically and I just can't stop it!

I need to keep Photoshop CS5 on my computer for printing purposes with a Canon Print Plugin I have for a large format printer. And so I reinstalled Photoshop CS5 recently. I wonder if it's because I re-installed it after installing my CS6 that's caused the problem.

Nov 19, 2012I have Lightroom4.2 ~ month & have taking it slow with the DVD-ROM insrtuctions & book. The presets are fine on the left side of the screen; but when I try to access the presets under edit>preferences, they only show the Adobe logo. (I thought I was following the directons from the DVD closely enough, but they are confusing when they mention to have your presets in your catalog.)

In organiser if I select Preferences from the Edit menu or by pressing Ctrl-K a small window comes up saying loading, but the preferences window never shows. Windows Task Manager shows that Elements is still running and the processor load is about 15-25% and so it would seem it is trying to do something. So far I've left the machine for over an hour and the loading window never goes. The only way to close Elements is to use End Task in Windows Task Manager.

I've tried deleting the preferences file in /Users/User name/roaming/Adobe/Elements Organiser/9.0/Organiser/. I've also tried uninstalling, deleting all of the Adobe Elements files within the roaming profile and reinstalling. Neither of which has worked. Apart from this Elements works OK and I can access the Preferences in the Elements Edit programme.

I have just installed the latest update and this made no difference.
I could definitely access the preferences window when the software was first installed. The only thing I can think of that has changed (apart from the usual Windows updates) was the installation of a trial copy of Lightroom 3, which I've now uninstalled.

I've also removed the twain plug in this way: Program FilesAdobePhotoshop Elements 9Locales<locale>Plug-InsImport-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
I dragged it twice to my desktop but the file still seemed to remain in place (even though I had 2 new copies on my desk top), so the third time I did it, I clicked it and moved it to trash. Again, I restarted my computer and relaunched PSE9 and it still crashes when trying to save.
