View 1 RepliesI have both Photoshop CS5 and CS6 installed on my pc. I run on Windows 7 64 bits.
My problem is that in Lightroom 4.2 in Edit Preferences, the top panel "Edit in Photoshop" is "Edit in Photoshop CS5" and I cannot find a way to change this to CS6.True, I can choose CS6 as my Additional External Editor, but what I need is to have Photoshop CS6 as my MAIN editor. (At the top of the Edit - Preferences list.
Same thing happens when in Lightroom I choose" Photo, Edit in."The top choice (and the Ctrl+E) is CS5 again. I can list CS6 as an alternative, but it's not what I want..I get Photoshop CS5 opening automatically and I just can't stop it!
I need to keep Photoshop CS5 on my computer for printing purposes with a Canon Print Plugin I have for a large format printer. And so I reinstalled Photoshop CS5 recently. I wonder if it's because I re-installed it after installing my CS6 that's caused the problem.
Where in Lightroom 4.2 can I change from Photoshop CS5 to CS6 as the main top preference.
I have Lightroom4.2 ~ month & have taking it slow with the DVD-ROM insrtuctions & book. The presets are fine on the left side of the screen; but when I try to access the presets under edit>preferences, they only show the Adobe logo. (I thought I was following the directons from the DVD closely enough, but they are confusing when they mention to have your presets in your catalog.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI practice editing in PS6 from LR5 but this morning the image won't open in PS although Photoshop application opens.
I restarted the computer and tried "editing in" Nik software which did work.
I just purchased Lightroom 4 a few days ago and am noticing when I select 'edit in' Photoshop CS5, my lightroom edits don't transfer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my work flow, I want to export collections for use in printing photos as well as using them in another program to create high quality slide show to view on HD TVs. I will also be storing them on a seperate drive as a back up in case I lose my catalog. I can't figure out if I should use jpeg, tiff in file format. Also in color space sRPG or AdobeRPG or ProRPG. I like jpeg as it takes my raw files from 30 mb to 8 mb so they are managable. The problem with AdobeRPG and Pro is the files become 120 mb and way to large.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just started to have trouble with Lightroom 4 on my MacBook. The program freezes when I try to choose a file on my computer or try to select a folder location. When I try to choose where to export my pics, I have to reboot the program every time.
I have tried shutting down my computer and everything.
When I run PSE 11 Organizer and try and edit the Prefences a DOS screen flashes and the program crashes.

Whenever I tell LR to edit a photo in PS (CS6), I get back a TIFF file that is 10X larger than the orginal RAW file, and I ultimetly delete it to save space (after first converting it to a jpeg). Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I from Photoshop CS6 chose to open a file, or "Place" the browser window open, but I have to scroll all the way down in the "Enable:" drop down menu to chose "All Documents" or "All readable Documents" each time. And then if I want chose from the "Format" menu.
This is very time consuming, and I don't find any settings to make i.e. "All Documents" as default.
When I am using Lightroom 5.2, and I try to edit a file in Adobe Photoshop CC from Lightroom, Photoshop starts up and after 15 to 20 seconds, I receive the following error message: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." If I click "OK" on the error message form, the image finally opens in Photoshop.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom 5.2 and Photoshop CC multiple times, but the edit in Photoshop problem won't go away.
Is there a way to set the preference, that is should not copy a secind picture of the same item once it has been modified in Photoshop? If it is important I would save the image in a different folder from the other program directly. When I return to the library module I would like to see the same number of pictures in my catalogue as they were before I started to manipulate any of the files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I was photographing the moon tonight and shooting in my usual format - RAW. I took the photos into Lightroom and selected the one I liked best. After tweaking the contrast and clarity a little, I decided that I wanted to change around where the moon way positioned - in a way crop wouldn't allow. So I turned to "edit-in" and then selected Photoshop CS6 from the options. All was fine, Photoshop appeared and I began editing. I decided that I wanted to place my moon in a completely different location, so to do this I decided I'd select the area around the moon, copy it, paint over it, then paste the moon back onto a new layer and paste it exactly where I wanted it. I think this is why I'm having issues. All was well and it was time to save. I hit save...suddenly it was taken ages to save. I'm talking at least 2 minutes of save time. Realising that was odd, I decided to check out how big the new file was...nearly 1GB big as a TIFF.
I don't like saving my photos as anything other than TIFFs, but I don't have unlimited storage space.
Why was this file so huge after editing in Photoshop, how do I avoid it/what did I do wrong?
I recently built a new PC dedicated to my photo work.
i7 2600k, 16gb DDR 3 ripjaws, 128GB crucial m4 SSD, (2) x 1TB 7200 HDDs (mirrored), Sapphire Radeon HD 5570.The first month or so of use LR worked great. However, recently I have been getting several errors and oddities.
1) Randomly closes. I can restart it without a problem and pick back up where I left off. There are not warnings or signs that it is about to close.. it just does.
2) "Unexpected end of file". Unable to edit photo. Preview does show, however. I have never seen this error before on other machines.
3) Memory dumps. I assume this is related to LR3 as that is the only program I am actively using when it happens (Chome is always open as well, however) I will have the dump files examined to know for sure.
4) Something new that just started today. In the preview bar on the bottom, as I scroll through the photos I see the previews of other photos.. some photos from other folders I took weeks or months ago. When I hover over the image it changes to what it should be.1 with a photo from this particular shoot and one from one I did over a month ago. Everything I scroll back and forth (rapidly or not) as the previews load it loads the wrong files first, multiple times (around 8 or 9 in a row) and then they slowly change to what it should be.
I am not sure if I am properly describing this error but it is really weird. Also, this seems to only happen on the images off a CF card. I was borrowing a friends D200 as a 2nd body for a party. When I scroll through the images off my SD card I do not see the issue appear. When I get to the CF portion of the folder is when I see the problem..I just updated LR today but these issues occured prior to the update and still exist afterwards.
Do I need to do a fresh install of LR?What precautions do I need to take in doing so to insure my catalogue stays intact?
I have a scenario that I can't seem to get working the way I want.
Scenario: I edit a file in photoshop with multiple layers (.tiff or .psd). I then add that file to my lightroom catalog and would like to have it automatically updated in lightroom when making changes in photoshop. I know this is possible when using the "Edit in Photoshop" option but I can't seem to get it working when I had the file in photoshop first.
If I import the file into lightroom and then make changes in photoshop the changes are not applied in lightroom. If, in lightroom, I choose "edit in photoshop" then I get a flat image generated from the lightroom file that does not have all my previously created photoshop layers.
When I click on a picture to edit (new or old) I get this message. "File name XXXX is offline or is missing" I can not do anything (edit, export, anything!) What does this mean and how do I fix it? Why did this happen? I am still using LR2.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that some of my photos are missing from the library in lightroom, specifically the original versions of photos that have virtual copies edited in photoshop in folders that have since been synchronized. Weird, and very anoying. The files are still there (in wondows explorer) but when I try to re-import them lightroom doesn't see them, only the PS edited copies (.tif files). I told lightroom to allow duplicates and it sees all the photos in the folder except those missing ones. This does not happen to my PS edited virtual copies in folders that have not been synchronized. It is not a matter of stacking, or at least Lightroom does not think the PS copies are stacked at all so I can't unstack them. How to get them back into lightroom (preferably with the accompanying development settings) and also how to avoid this problem in the future.
PS: I import files from my camcorder using a different program because lightroom does not acknowledge that particular video file format. That's why I have to synchronize some folders and not others.
I've installed newly purchased Photoshop CS5 on my relatively new (4 months old) Macbook Pro computer. I've uninstalled/reinstalled 3 or 4 times; same results each time. What happens is I can open the program once normally, right after install, and begin to work on a new project. Shortly thereafter it crashes, and from then on I cannot use the software unless I hold down shift-option-cmd to delete the preferences file, every time I open it. If I don't delete the preferences file, the software will open but nothing in it works. Everything is non-responsive or acts weirdly, until I hit certain buttons which just causes it to crash. As long as I've deleted the preferences file when starting it, all is well. If I don't do that, I can't use the software.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI suddenly can't use my Photoshop CS5. In the middle of working on it, I suddenly got an error message saying "Could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid. (It has been deleted.) View 3 Replies View RelatedOn Windows 7, 64-bit, with all the stuff turned on to show me hidden files and system files and everything, Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1?), and Lightroom 4.3
I'm trying to follow the advice that everything I do in Photoshop should be backed up somewhere other than as part of Photoshop, I periodically move all the stuff in the Users/<me>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe... folders to a backup drive... And, by and large, I can find and figure out what stuff is.
But, I can't find my preferences file. Adobe says:
General settingsAdobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp (32-bit version)
Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp (64-bit version)
Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings
I don't have ANYTHING called "Prefs.psp" in the Users stuff. As near as I can tell, I don't have anything called Prefs.psp ANYWHERE on the disk.. Do I get to pick where this file gets put? Could I have put it somewhere ELSE? Or, is it actually named something else?
I wondered why/how ones preferences ever get corrupted. Ive use PS, since 2.5 on all sorts of PCs, sometimes with it running around the clock for days. Never once had I encountered a corrupted preferences file until now, that is.
What I encountered can only be listed as an observation. Im sure that it is but one possible cause. Still, I thought that Id share my experience.
Up at 4:00AM to start a rush scan job. Everything boots up fine, and I start PS CS2. As its loading the plug-ins, etc., I notice that Sun Microsystems Java wants an update and its icon has appeared in the Tasktray of my XP-Pro SP3. I open it, and click Update Later, or whatever the exact dialog is. It drops back to the Tasktray. PS seems to be taking a long time to load on my workstation, but I give it a few moments. Nothing. Its hung at Reading Text Global Resources. I check Task Manager PS is shown as Not Responding. Odd, this has NEVER happened before in all those years. Not so much as once.
I remembered that there was an update for Extend Script, that I told PS to hold off on. I go to Updates, via Bridge and its still there waiting. I End Task for PS and look for something usable from MS. Of course theres nothing. Event Viewer shows an Application Hang, with no useful info. I install the Extend Script Update, and try PS again. It gets to the same spot and hangs.
OK, I allow Java to update (making sure to NOT allow the installation of the MSN Search Toolbar - sheezh! I try PS yet again. Hang at the same spot.
Re-boot and hang. Though I have said it a thousand times, trash your prefs, it takes a moment for it to sink in. I trash my prefs and all is good with PS. Luckily, I had my dual-monitor Workspace saved, and it only takes a minute to change the default preferences back to what I want.
Normally, I have everything, and I mean everything, set to NOT auto-update. I turn this feature off for every program that I install. I use Premiere a lot, and do not want Norton, or anybody, waking up and phoning home. Ill tell em when to update. Well, I missed Java.
I can only guess that it did its update thing, just at a critical time for PSs loading and blew up the prefs file. Had it popped up a second later, or maybe a second earlier, I doubt that Id have had to trash my prefs. After all these years (decades really), I had a corrupt preferences file.
Im sure there are a myriad things that can corrupt a preferences file, and I am only guessing at what caused mine. However, the timing is perfect, so Java gets the blame.
Where is the Preferences file located in CS4 Win?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro running Lion, OS X 10.7 that I purchased two months ago so it's relatively new. Just bought Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended and installed it on the computer a day ago. Software will not operate unless I hold option+command+shift when starting so that the preferences file is deleted.
I suspect that the problem stems from a plugin that I deposited into the plugins folder, because the software was working at first. I didn't piece this together until after the fact, but once I fired up the software a couple times after installing it, it worked fine each time. I noodled around and checked some things out to see what's new in CS5, then I went ahead and deposited a favorite plugin into the plugins folder. Things stopped working after this. Not positive the plugin is related, but thought I should mention it.
I removed the plugin of course, to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software three times. No difference. When I open the software without deleting the prefs file, it's just buggy and non-responsive. Can't start a new project, and thing just end up crashing every time. The software is useless without deleting the prefs file when firing it up.
I just had to reinstall after a wipe of my Mac. Program opens, I can use it, but when I quit it I get this message: Could not save preferences because the file is locked or you do no have the necessary privilieges. Use the "get info" command in the Finder to unlock or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders.
I went into Applications, right clicked on the CS5 icon, which brought up the "get Info" box. At the bottom, under Sharing & Permissions it says I have custome access; Me: read & write
System, read & write
Admin, read & write
everyone, read only
On the "everyone" the only choices I have are read only, write only or no access.
When I try to open the program, it gives me the following error: "Could not initialize photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted). I've uninstalled and re-installed the program.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI created a short project of two clips of 640 x 480 avi clips with no transitions in VideoStudio Pro X4. I created a media file output and chose the option "same as the first clip." The file created was about 39 MB. Everything was good.
Then I created a media file using the option "Project Properties" and the file size ballooned to about 354 MB, even though I set the Project Properties to the same values as the original clip!!
I need to use Project Properties. Otherwise, when I add transitions, during the transitions the video size changes to widescreen for some reason and the picture looks stretched out from left to right, until after the transition, when the video goes back to 640 x 480.
How can I use the Project Properties option when creating the final media file and not get huge files, or how can I use the "same as the first clip" option and keep the transitions the same size as the first clip (640 x 480) instead of switching to a wide screen mode?
I thought there was a way to have LR open in a certain specific place every time you open it?
