var ref = new ActionReference();
ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('capp'), charIDToTypeID('Ordn'), charIDToTypeID('Trgt') );
var openglEnabled = executeActionGet(ref).getObjectValue (charIDToTypeID('CchP')).getBoolean (stringIDToTypeID('openglEnabled'));

I went to Photoshop Preferences to enable the Graphics Processor but the option is grayed out and won't let me check the box to enable.

Photoshop :: CS3 Preferences/Performance Not...

May 13, 2009

I have increased RAM in a Windows XP Pro, 32bit PC, from 2 GB, to 4 GB.  Windows recognizes that I have 3,141,872 kb of physical memory available.  Yet, Photoshop CS3 only shows available RAM of 1705 MB (Edit-Preferences-Performance-Memory Usage).  I am preparing to do Boot.ini modifications to the /3GB, and /userva switches to increase RAM available to PS.  I assumed that PS would show an increase in available RAM, even before modifying the switches.  I've been assured by a knowledgeable Windows/PS user that these mods are straight forward.  Yet, when I told him that PS was not recognizing the new Ram, while Windows XP was recognizing it, he suggested I post this on the Adobe PS forum.  Hence, my thread.   In sum - why doesn't PS recognize the new amount of RAM, or how badly have I misunderstood the concept?  (It's probably operator error.)

Photoshop :: Max Graphics Card (PC) Performance For CS6?

Aug 26, 2012

Photoshop CS6 makes extensive use of graphic card features such as OpenGL and OpenCL. Prices of graphic cards that have those features range from well under $100 to over $4000 for top of the line Pro cards.If your system is only used for PS then there's no need to invest in features you don't need, such as those needed by video gamers. But you do want the best graphics card performance that PS can make use of.

Graphics cards to determine at what point additional graphics performance no longer improves PS performance? For example, does the card's clock speed effect PS performance? Does 2G of graphics card RAM offer any improvement over 1G (or 512MB)?

Photoshop :: Can't Use Graphics Processor For CS6 On Windows 8

Sep 12, 2012

I just got a fresh upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (not beta) but then I can't use Photoshop that well. In the Preferences > Performance, I can't tick "Use Graphics Processor". I have an ATI graphics card and yep, I've already tried upgrading/reinstalling my graphics driver, even installing old ones -- and still, this doesn't solve my problem (even in its control panel, I can't seem to see the settings of the graphics card!)

Photoshop :: Graphics Processor Settings For CS6 And New IMac?

Mar 15, 2013

Just got one of the brand-new 27 inch iMacs a few days ago, one with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX (2GB GDDR5) video card.

I'm using Photoshop CS6.

Every time I enable Photoshop to take advantage of the video card for additional memory - Preferences > Performance > Graphics Processor Settings - I run into constant problems.

I'm talking about the "colored spinning wheel" icon appearing just about every 30 seconds and holding me up for about just about the same period of time.

Turning off the use of the video card solves the problem every time.  No "colored spinning wheel" icon appearing - ever.

I got the larger video card hoping to take advantage of as much available memory as possible; unfortunately, it looks like there seems to be a problem with the interaction between Photoshop CS6 and the video card's driver.

I've got all the latest updates for both the Mac OS and Photoshop.

Photoshop :: Graphics Processor Not Working After Reinstallation?

Aug 7, 2012

I recently installed Photoshop CS6 and had no problem what so ever the first week. to an incident I removed Photoshop and reinstalled it. Now I'm having problem with GPU acceleration.

My computer has 2 graphics cards, GeForce GTX 460(Primary screen & projector) and GeForce 210(Secondary screen). Photoshop detects my GTX460 and uses it. But when I move Photoshop to my secondary screen I can't see any documents.
It's just a gray screen.

I had Photoshop CS5.5 installed before and had no problem using my secondary screen, installed PS CS 6 pararell with PS CS 5.5 and had no problem. Then I removed PS CS 5.5, still no problem.Reinstalled PS CS 6 and it doesn't work.

It obiusly worked a few days ago with this set up, and now it doesn't. also ad that unchecking Use graphics processor fixing the problem. But I wanna have all the nice GPU features.

Photoshop :: CS6 Use Graphics Processor - Laptops / Nividia Optimus

Oct 8, 2012

In Photoshop CS6 the layers are not displayed at all if using Nivdia Geforce drivers 306.02 in Windows 8 64-bit. If I revert back to Nvidia Geforce drivers 304.79 (Beta) - it works fine - the layers are now displayed.

The laptop system uses Nividia Optimus hybrid graphics and Photoshop has been setup using the defaults (PS profile from Nvidia) to use the Nvidia card as High Performance Graphics. Photoshop hardware acceleration does not crash with either driver set - except since 304.79 Beta the layers are not displayed. So something has changed with Nvidia after the 304.79 Beta release, i.e. a bug - or Adobe has a bug in its implementation for DirectX with hard acceleration.

Lightroom :: CS5 Edit Preferences

Oct 15, 2012

I have both Photoshop CS5 and CS6 installed on my pc. I run on Windows 7 64 bits.

My problem is that in Lightroom 4.2 in Edit Preferences, the top panel "Edit in Photoshop" is "Edit in Photoshop CS5" and I cannot find a way to change this to CS6.True, I can choose CS6 as my Additional External Editor, but what I need is to have Photoshop CS6 as my MAIN editor. (At the top of the Edit - Preferences list.

Same thing happens when in Lightroom I choose" Photo, Edit in."The top choice (and the Ctrl+E)  is CS5 again. I can list CS6 as an alternative, but it's not what I want..I get Photoshop CS5 opening automatically and I just can't stop it!

I need to keep Photoshop CS5 on my computer for printing purposes with a Canon Print Plugin I have for a large format printer. And so  I reinstalled Photoshop CS5 recently. I wonder if it's because I re-installed it after installing my CS6 that's caused the problem.

Where in Lightroom 4.2 can I change from Photoshop CS5 to CS6 as the main top preference.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 :: Long Pauses And Delays In Performance?

Feb 8, 2011

I just upgraded my computer by doubleing the RAM to 4Gb. Now CorelDraw (12 on XP SP3) is lagging. Almost every time I switch tools, make a change, zoom in or out, or do anything, it sits there doing squat, totally unresponsive for about a minute (yes, I do my 60 seconds) or more, then suddenly catches up. This is an excedingly frustrating if not outright impossible way to work.

My project is at the stage where yes, I NEED Draw. I need it working. Quickly and effeciently. The way it was before the memmory capacity was Improved.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: How To Change Default Preferences Permanently

Aug 26, 2012

where the preferences are saved for items like in the postscript tab. Automatically increase Flatness

Auto increase Fountain fill steps. Optimize Fountain Fills

Confirm to DSC

As far as I can see the default behavior for these should be ON, it used to be this could be saved as the Defaults until after version 9, now they turn off. However is there any reason to ever have them off? I think not but just in case there is I will allow as to leave them there for people to turn off.

Yes I am aware I can save those settings as Print styles and have in fact got 2, one with crop marks enabled and because crop marks are 100 % CMYK unless greyscale is chosen I have one with no cropmarks so Xerox doesn't charge me color clicks on mixed black and color prints. Of course one has only to forget to use one of these 2 preferences to have all the problems associated with not having those items checked such as dropped out complex items.

While I am at it another default should be NOT to treat all objects as filled - the first thing needed to be changed during a install. I can however live with it as is as it is not a item that needs to be changed with every job.

As I see it the most common reason for Adobe users to complain about Coreldraw is the problems that come by not having Auto Increase Flatness as a default postscript behavior and their not knowing to turn it on.

And while I am at it an addition for creating PDF's would be the option of creating as a Bitmap, this being the preferred proofing method so providing a proof doesn't provide the artwork to the client, it could also be a useful method of supplying Web artwork.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Node Alignment - Restore Preferences

May 16, 2013

A few months ago I upgraded my aging office workstation to a powerful new system running Windows 8 Professional. CorelDRAW X5 refused to install under Win 8 Pro so I had to upgrade to CorelDRAW X6.

Here's the issue: for the longest time, at least through 10 or more versions of CorelDRAW, it was very easy to align nodes. Just use the shape tool, manually shift+click nodes into the selection and the last node selected would stay locked in place. The other nodes would use the last node selected as the point of reference and align to it.

That doesn't work anymore in CorelDRAW X6.

Now, it doesn't matter which points were clicked first or last. The alignment function always uses the earliest point created in the path as the reference point. And that's just downright useless. I'm forced to drag out guides and snap the points to them -like I'm using an app released in 1990. It makes tasks like technical drawing more time consuming.

Is there some setting buried in Preferences that can restore this very basic but extremely valuable function?

BTW, rival app Adobe Illustrator had finally added controlled anchor point alignment in version CS3 or CS4 (I forget which), but it was a kludge to use -it required extra clicks on anchor points and wouldn't work half the time. The feature seems to be gone in CS6.

Photoshop :: Cs4 Performance

May 13, 2009

Just doing my first bit of serious phtoshopery in cs4. WELCOME BACK TO 1996! I have all the open GL stuff turned off. WHen I do a brish stroke and undo it takes a second or so to undo.  adding a gradient to a mask in a 21mb image takes several seconds to update.

I do a brush stoke and I see the egg timer before I get a screen update. it  feels like its maybe doing that whilst it updates the layer thumbnail.  Urgh.  Lightrrom 2 is unbelievably slow, now my workhorse has gone the same way. Will getting a quadro help with this or is it a fundemntal problem? (I'm on a 2.7 ghz core2 with 4gb or ram in xp 32bit).
