Paint Shop Pro :: X3 - Won't Start - Crashes At Initializing Palettes
Feb 8, 2011
I installed a new harddrive on my laptop and restored a Ghost image of my old drive onto the new one. Most of the installed software worked right off. Some needed to be re-activated as the software detected a significant hardware change. However, PSP X3 would not start, crashing during loading. The PSP X. splash shows and the loading status gets to "initializing palettes" then Windows reports "Corel Paintshop Pro X3 has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution...". That's it.
I have un-installed PSP X3 and reloaded from CD. I downloaded the 4 existing patches (1 through 4) and installed them in sequence. I didn't try starting PSP X3 until all the patches were in. Corel.com confirms the activation of the software.
I've used PaintShop since the JASC days and the software works great. However, since about version 9, the software has become more prone to crashing under a variety of circumstances. Now it won't start.
Specs
1.8 GHz laptop
3 GB RAM
500 GB Seagate Momentus XT drive with 4 GB RAM buffer (supposedly a "hybrid" drive)
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
As some know, it comes on the installation CD of PSPX3.
Quite simply, three seconds after double clicking the program icon, I get this. I'm on the second installation. Patches won't install. I get the message " product that needs to be updated not found" or something similar.
I have tried everything that I know to do but cannot get the materials palette (and some others) to show in X3. I need to have the materials palette show so that, among other matters, I can change the color of text I add to the image. I did not have this issue with X2 and this issue is forcing me to go back to that older version.
In X4 I could set the pallettes I wanted (layers and History) to a docked position on the RHS. With X6 the pallettes cover the RH part of the window and the image, with the opened image centred on the whole screen so that the RH part is cut off. It can't be centred within the area visible when the pallettes are open. This gives a smaller visible image if the whole image is in view. This is a serious issue, which X4 handled ok ! I've tried all the options but cannot get X6 to behave like x4
I have been trying to dock three palettes vertically on the right side of my work space but have had no luck at all. I have preferences checked to allow docking and have used the drop down on each palette to mark "docking" as opposed to floating. However, the palettes always stack horizontally (left to right) and very large as opposed to vertically and sized as I want them. I can float each palette and drag each to the right of the screen as shown but they will not dock like this. I have attached a capture file of what I want to happen and another with what happens.
I have the Cs5 Master Suite and just installed my new Wacom Intuos3 tablet. I'm running on a Windows 7. Before installing Photoshop never had a problem starting up - now it crashes without fail every time. I tried uninstalling the Wacom, rebooting, running a virus check, blah blah blah, but nothing works. Photoshop crashes every time, whether or not the tablet is plugged in or installed now.
I am running Windows 7 SP1. I have tried uninstalling using Revo Uninstaller, twice. I have also tried opening it by using the shift key which did reset the preferences but still won't open. I have turned off DEP svs for it.I have tried just about everything and I am very upset.
I cannot get PaintShop Photo Pro X3 NL to start up anymore. Windows Task Manager shows PSP to have started up - as a service only. In the meanwhile, I do get this error message:
[Webbrowser:] ["Cannot find ...:/Users/Kanis/AppData/Roaming//Corel/Messages/540229901_907002/EN/MessageCache... Check path of the internet address."]
(I'm running my PC in Dutch; so I translated it as correctly as possible).
This message appears from the very instant that I installed Corel WordPerfect X5 on my system, i.e. February 8, 2011. Then I uninstalled WP X5 completely. However, the above message keeps appearing, whenever I try to start Corel PaintShop Photo Project Creator or PSP X3.
In order to keep on going, I installed PSP X3 on a virtual machine on this PC (O/S: Windows XP 32 bits SP3 under VMware Workstation 7.1.4 ( under host W7 Ultimate 64 NL)). It works fine from the beginning, but this is not meant to be. Therefore, on June 6, I tried a fresh reinstall on PSP X3 on the main operating system (W7 Ultimate 64 NL). The problem persisted, as before. I then uninstalled ALL Corel applications from that system, went through the entire register and deleted all traces of Corel, PSP X3 and WP X5 applications. Expelled also all traces of PSI-Service related items (also from the register). Then I made a fresh reinstall of PSP X3, and it worked. Eureka ? Until this very morning. Same old story started all over again. So obviously I have not found the root of the problem. It must have been masked for some time. What is the source of the error message? And how come it causes PSP X3 to start as a service only, and not continue. Note: note even the start-up screen of PSP X3 does show up.
Clicking on the desktop icon provided by the install of Pspx4 has the splash image appear briefly then a 'not going to do it' message box followed by Win7 'there is a problem, progam is being closed' message box.Created my own shortcut from the Pspx4 exe and the same thing happened.Using the listing in the Start Menu 'All Programs' will start PspX4.
There is no problem exporting an image from Lightroom 4 to be opened in Pspx4. That happens without fault.I applied 'run as administrator' to the shortcut I created and now that will open the software as expected.
This is a strange thing : I have PSP X5 under my computer for about one year, and this morning it does not start when I click on PSP icon. When I look at the process monitoring, the exe appears and disappears 3 seconds later. I tried the restore database, nothing changed. I tried to rename the database file, no more success.
PSP X3 crashes when starting up in WinXP Pro. It crashes at "Activating tracker", or something. PSP8 also crashes. I removed PSPX3 and installed it again. The same thing happened. So I downloaded PSPX4. The same thing happened. Other programs, like Panter 12, still function.
A file seems to be corrupt on my system, that is used by PSP since PSP8.
Vischeck is a color changing tool that simulates various forms of color deficiency. I have used this plugin in previous versions of PSP, but invoking it in X4 causes a crash to desktop (Win7 64 bit).
Recently I have a problem with PaintShop Photo Pro X3. When I want to use the tool text, the screen becomes white and PSP crashes! Over and over again.I have the same problem on the laptop.
After almost perfectly working about 1 month long, PSP X6 now crashes in both versions, 32 and 64 bit, right after start. It displays the manager with the pictures from the folder used last time, then the HD is turning some 5-8 seconds more, and then comes the crash.
System: Win 7 64-bit SP1 german
Problem Event: BEX Module: MSVCR90.DLL Version: 9.0.30729.6161
It did work until a week ago, when I last time used it before today, since then the only software installed were updates for Adobe Reader and Flash, and the usual Windows defender signatures update, nothing else was changed on the system.
Reinstalling Visual C++ 2008 SP1 32-/64-bit (above DLL seems to be part of it) didn't work, uninstalling and re-installing PSP X6 neither, nor playing around with the DEP settings, as advised by some MS MVPs on the net. PSP X4, still on my machine, does work.
Seems to affect both x64 (my usual use) and x32. During the startup phase (before loading command libraries, etc), the program frequently crashes IF I am not hooked up to the internet. If I am hooked to the internet, it starts OK, and if, after starting, I disconnect from the internet all is OK as well. I presume it may be checking for updates at startup and running into trouble without an internet connection there, and there seems to be no way to turn auto-check feature this off.
Since I can usually hook up to the internet-- using an air card, if naught else-- this isn't a fatal problem for me, but it is an annoying glitch. I mostly want to somehow get this into the Corel system as a bug report.
When I apply the mura copies, PSPX3 crashes.I tried it before updating PSP. I then installed another update, tried mura again, crashed, updated PSP to 13.2.1.20.UAC-never notify.Tried DEP in both settings.FM patcher wouldn't work with it. Tried several versions of mura.
My Paintshop Pro X4 was working great, until I registered it today, then all hell broke loose. It crashes and also I cannot get the "Computer" tab to open, only the "Desktop" tab will work correctly. Tried restarting it, same results. I use Win XP Pro SP3 and computer does not have virus, nor malware. Hard drive is 500G. Graphics card is updated and more than adequate.
I have migrated to a new PC with Windows7 64-bit. I installed my copy of PSPP X3 and it works fine except for two issues. The File Open dialog always crashes the program when I use it although Drag&Drop and Recent Files work fine.
Another (related) issue is that I cannot use Customize Scripts either.
I already had a thread about PSP X6 crashing (URL....), but what I finally found now deserves a new thread, because it has nothing to do with MSVCR90.DLL, but with PSP handling the keywords, as it seems now after tests.
PSP was crashing when opened in a certain folder, so I renamed the folder, created a new one, and copied the images from the old renamed one 2-4 pieces at a time. I then opened PSP on the new folder after each copy, and all went well until the last 2 copied images. I then deleted them, copied again each of the 2 images separately, and found the culprit. It was the only image in that folder being tagged with hierarchical IPTC keywords. Moved the image from the folder, copied others into, and all went well again.
Navigated to another folder with older pictures, all tagged hierarchical, and PSP crashed again.Even after deleting the hierarchical keywords from that image, and renaming it didn't work. As soon as PSP founds that image it crashes.
Taking a look into the database: Indeed there is no structure for hierarchical keywords. And this is for me almost a real catastrophe! Both Lightroom 4 and Xnview can handle hierarchical keywords, which are very useful. Because I'm working with these software as much as with PSP, I started to tag my pictures accordingly, about 1200 of them until now, which took hours and hours. Xnview can even nicely create nested categories from the keywords, so it's one click to find all pictures with a given word.
After installing the latest fix/update/patch Paintshop Ultimate X6 crashes continuously. After startup it goes for a minute or so and then crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it without any change. I've emptied the temp directory.
my corel crashing every time I try to select the color palette menu in the window dropdown, try to change the palette in the solid fill color window, and also in the outline color window. I have tried changing the color preset, reinstalling, resetting to defaults, am updated to the newest version (15.2.0.686), installing the hot fixes, blah, blah blah....... everything.
My version of PS4 that was working fine has stopped working, it crushes at start up. I clean installed the program several times but the result is the same.
I just installed the 12.1 update of After Effects, and now I can't open the program. When I try to start up AE, I get the error message:
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces. 773.1407350999826081.xml' to 'workspaces.xml'.
I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling AE. Same problem.
The file in question has rendered perfectly before but client requested a small change just before publication, so we have made the change but when rendering, Photoshop crashes.
I have tried the file on both my 27" iMac i5 with 24gbb ram, and my Macbook Pro Retina i7 with 16gb ram. The only fix I have found is to duplicate all layers to an ALREADY OPEN new file, save as a new name, quit PS then re-open the new file and render.
