.STEP
.STL
.IGS
.SLDPRT
with most of the files being in .STEP and .SLDPRT format.
What is the best way to import these into maya 2014 OSX?
I'm trying to import dxf and dwg files into Maya 2014 on my Mac, but Maya crashes everytime.Direct connect bundle is loaded.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed Maya 2014 SP4 at home, this is a fresh install and was just trying to see if there are any problems with the new SP before I install it at work.
But for some reason, the install went OK, but when I looked under the Render settings there is no MentalRay, and then looking in the Plugins list, there are none there either?
I accidentally turned it on, but now I cannot do anything about it.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi was doing some modelling in Maya and I noticed that 2 of my viewports were showing the same stuff at all times.
For example: if I would change one of the viewports to Top view then the other one would do the same thing automatically, as well if I would look around in one of the viewports the other one would follow.
I assume that I have accidentally tampered some settings somewhere, all I know is that when I started modelling my project I didn't have this problem.
So since I have had 2014 installed grease pencil only worked once and I have not changed anything. It just worked all of a sudden one start up, but prior to that and since it has not worked at all. Everything opens (the menu) and when I add a frame and select a brush that all works, but when using the mouse or Wacom tab it will not paint anything. I even upgraded to the latest drivers for the Wacom, but like I said the mouse wont work either.

2. Maya loading window appears.
3. Maya finishes loading and 1 minute startup movies appears.
4. Menu bar for Maya appears at top of screen.
5. Nothing else appears.

TROUBLESHOOTING I HAVE TRIED:
1. I reinstalled Maya 2014 with SP3 and reactivated the licensing.
2. Restarted computer several times.
3. Tried opening old scenes.
4. Tried opening new

I am using Maya 2013 student version and I have - one - Maya file that won't display the lights in the viewport. ALL other Maya files show the lights.
I have attached an image showing the issue.
I'm finding inside 2012 viewport 2.0 that animated textures appear unsupported. They work fine in the regular Default Quality and High Quality modes, but 2.0 as well as rendering in Hardware 2.0 leave the images static.
I have tried iff sequences but it doesn't work for those either.
-how to rotate the viewport not thru the cube.only viewports not objects.
-how to pan .I used to pan with middle mouse button(pressing lt also) and dragging down while pressed on one point .
Also a new type of tool is coming when I pan. i.e. two arrows one big and one small(one on top and other at bottom resp.).with a plus or minus sign at the middle.
I just installed the trial version of Maya 2012 on a new machine, and I'm playing around with the new Viewport 2.0 features. In the preview demo Autodesk showed that one of the new feature is soft edge shadows, but I can't find any way to activate them, the shadows in the viewport are jaggy and pixelated, even if I set the resolution of the shadow map to 2048. Increasing the filter works a bit, but that's the same as the old versions of Maya, so where is this new soft shadows feature?
Also, I would like to point out that I installed Maya 64bit on a very powerful machine, an i7 with 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce 480, but the performance in full screen are VERY DISAPPOINTING, especially when the Screen Space Ambient Occlusion is active, the framerate drops drastically. This machine can run games such a Crysis 2 in full HD at 60 fps, how come the Maya viewport is so slow?!
Suddenly Maya's import/export/open file dialogue box has become extremely slow, taking forever to browse thru folders, freezing in the process.
This is independently of file/scene size. Specs are Ok. CPU i7-4930k, 16gb RAm, Geforce GTX 780, running windows 8.1 with a Kingston SSD and a second 3tb Caviar Green HD.
Just installed Extension for Maya 2014 SP 1.
When I open a fresh scene, load MR and go to Render Settings my Quality, Indirect Lighting and Options tabs are not working. Quality is minimised to the top left and the others are blank.
I've tried the following :
- Uninstalling Mental Core
- deleting all prefs, scripts etc
- deleteUI unifiedRenderGlobalsWindow; buildNewSceneUI;
Attached are what I see in each of the problem tabs and below is all output from the script editor as I open Maya, load mental ray and then click on each tab in turn.

We are just trying out Maya 2014 and seem to have found a little problem that we cannot seem to work around!
If we say have two object and we select one of them, if we then try to move that object along one axis, it moves a very small amount and then selects the other object, but neither move any more, if we unselect the second object and then try to move it again the same thing happens.
We are using a Wacom Tablet as the main pointing device and all three butttons are set right, and we have also tried a mouse and this does the same. We do have a 3Dconnexion Space Pilot Pro also connected but this has been disconnected to see if this caused the issue somehow but without it connected the issues is still aparent.
Works fine on 2013 no issues at all, but the problem just seems to effect the move tool in Maya 2014.
I have checked that soft selection is disabled and it is? maybe I have inadvertedly hit a shortcut sequence to switch something on or off, but cannot find anything else amiss.
i want to open the data from Maya 2014 in Maya 2013.
I didn't find any options under save as; or export.
What's up with the Show Manipulator Tool in Maya 2014? On my system, the tool is not showing up in the toolbar. There's just a blank spot where the icon used to be. The tool is still accessible via the General Shelf.

The problem seems to be in the Mental Ray Mel.
So for some reason when I open maya and try to open a file or create reference the window doesn't pop up and I can't click anything else whenever I try I hear a ding sound. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

HOWEVER, in maya 2014 there is only one option and that is "Set Ghost Clip Root". This works on HIK IF and only if you select the root FK controler, yet I've not been able to get it to work if I'm using a custom rig as the joint is driven by a transform (i.e. a nurbs curve). , using a reference character seems out of the question with anything related to trax and clip sequencing if you want to use the ghosting options.

I probably changed a setting in Maya 2010 and did not know the bigger implications. How to reset maya's viewport settings back to a normal state?? If I have to re-do any of my two plug-ins, that is ok. Last time I messed with maya it was version 5.
I have many, many models done in 3DS, Max and Blender that I am trying to convert over to Maya (my day job's 3D IDE).
I can view any maya (mb, ma) files with no problem. But today, I am having issues viewing results of simple 3DS imports in any viewport of maya.
The attatchments are of the same file (.3DS) being imported to blender3D and of Maya.
viewport2.0 is not supporting for mental ray shaders. When in enable view port mental ray shaders are showing in pink color.

Information:
See image IF01.jpg (below) the ViewCubein the Top Right of the Perspective Viewport is perfectly squared and showing the Left View - yet the Grid and all Objects on and around it are angled incorrectly.
Image IF02.jpg shows the Grid and Objects correctly aligned the way they should be - yet the ViewCube is now all off square!
Direct connect is broken in maya 2014 osx. This now means that dwg, dxf and iges will not import. I have the latest Service pack 1 installed but still no go! This means the only work flow is to do it on a windows version of maya then open it in the Mac.
