Suddenly Maya's import/export/open file dialogue box has become extremely slow, taking forever to browse thru folders, freezing in the process.
This is independently of file/scene size. Specs are Ok. CPU i7-4930k, 16gb RAm, Geforce GTX 780, running windows 8.1 with a Kingston SSD and a second 3tb Caviar Green HD.
When I attempt to load xref the dialogue for file attachment does not appear. This has only started happening the past day or so. The same applies to image files etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a friend who's got perhaps unusual Photoshop needs. He's working on a 10000x20000 pixel 16 bit image with maybe 6 image layers and 12 total layers. Loading the file takes about 20 minutes.
The system is a 2.6 GHz quad-core i7 with 12 GB RAM and a 32GB SSD primary scratch, 200 GB of secondary scratch, with a 1 GB Radeon HD 4870, running CS4 64bit on Vista 64.
What seems odd to me is that memory usage climbs steeply for the first perhaps 4 GB, looking like the load might complete in a minute or two, then the CPU kicks in for the long, long remainder of the load. The file on disk is roughly 5 GB.
We've got issues aside from this, but I'll detail them in another thread.
So for some reason when I open maya and try to open a file or create reference the window doesn't pop up and I can't click anything else whenever I try I hear a ding sound. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was working on setup up several camera animations in a file. I saved the file, and put the settings in for all 4 cameras to render. I started Batch Render running, it saved, began rendering the first frame and then Maya crashed. It was able to save a .mb version as it was closing. I have since been unable to get either file to open correctly.
If I try to directly open the files, they load 100%, the status bar immediately switches to "Writing <username>.20110503.<time>.ma" and the Crash Reporter appears before the viewport can even update and show the model.
If I try importing either file into a new document, it will load completely, and a dialog window pops up with: Could not save file"/var/folders/FL/FLo7J2o4H4OV9SDiREDU4U+++TI/-Tmp-/thompirson.20110503.1216.ma".
If you click OK, Maya crashes without the Crash Reporter opening.
Slow rendering image previews in import dialogue?
My LR 5 is as slow as a snail generating those previews.
Importing my RAWs form the EOS 6D (saved on a 95MB/s 32 BG SanDisk Extreme Pro) it renders only the 12 or 24 displayed previews and leaves out the rest (the next only when I'm scrolling down). For 12 images LR5 needs 8-10 seconds. LR4.4 does the same process for all 150 RAWs in 1-2 seconds.
It doesn't matter if I want to import to my workstation (Dell Precision T1650, 8core Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, 16GB RAM, 64bit) via USB 3.0 (Reader & Port) or to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6400). So it must be LR, not my hardware.
Are there known issues with the Canon-RAW format? I just updated EOS firmware to 1.1.3, but the renderspeed stays the same. For 1 image 3-4 seconds single...
Since upgrading to LR 5.2, I can no longer upload photos to Facebook. I get this message: "An error occurred while attempting to load this plug-in’s portion of the Export dialog. attempt to index upvalue '?' (a nil value)"
How do I get LR 5.2 to work again with my Facebook account?
Autocad LT 2014 works fine when one dwg is open, but after opening a second dwg autocad becomes 'selectively sluggish'. By 'sluggish' I mean panning and zooming are choppy, and switching between paperspace layouts is painfully slow. By 'selective' I mean that the program is slow only when working on the second drawing; I can toggle over to the first dwg that was opened and normal functionality resumes. These are not big files, there are not underlays or xrefs or crazy hatches/dynamic blocks/etc. It happens when working locally or off of the file server.
The only way I can have two drawings open and work normally is to open two instances of Autocad LT 2014 and have a drawing open in each -- then, I can switch back and forth as usual, with normal speeds.
What have happened with the material editor(slate?) in 3ds max 2014, its takes years to render a material compared to render the same maps and material in 2013.
Problem does not stop there, quite often the whole 3dsmax dies to when it stucks on a material?
I am run Photoshop CS6 Extended 64-bit (from design premium) on Windows 7, 64-bit with 8GB RAM.
When I first start PS, it looks like it freeze on the text "Measuring Memory". If I wait for about 30 seconds, it will eventually load and everything works fine. No issues with Save for Web or anything.
I have read the other threads on this and tried all of these solutions:
Checked my ram in memtest (15 passes, no error)Trash preferences and open again UN-install and re-install (tried twice)Updated PS to latest with Adobe Update Reboot machine .
This happen when I first run Windows, so lack of RAM is not the issue. I have no printers, other hard drive, or remote network drive attached to machine. Scratched disk is set to the boot disk (C:)
Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6 load normally.
I created a 30min video, with a lot of photos mixed with live video, transitions, music, etc. Now, when I try to reopen the file for futher editing, it appears the software needs to re-render all the thumbnails in my video track stream. As I mentioned, I have a lot of photos in there, so it's taking forever.
With the previous software I used (Pinnacle Studio), I could flush the cache and have the program rebuild (and store) all the thumbnail info for faster loads in subsequent sessions.
I am using PS CS2 on my XP based PC and it has worked fine for a number of years. Recently whenever I start PS is loads fine but then the very first image takes ages to load (>1 minute). All subsequent images load quickly as you'd expect.
It doesn't matter where that first image is saved and the size of the image makes no difference.
I just installed photoshop cs3 on my laptop! I try to open a file i take approximately 2-3 min to load! Any idea's what could be the problem! Oh and they aren't big files! And in case anyone needs to know.....Its a brand new laptop just bought it last week! Its running on a dual core intel at 2.0GHz 4g of ram 512 graphics card!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a lot of scenes that have become exceedingly slow to save and load. Like often taking 10 to 20 minutes to save. With looming deadlines this is becoming really desperate! I've tried merging into a new scene, running scripts to clean out notetracks etc. Even after deleting every object and material, and resetting all render settings, the file is still inexplicably slow. See attached example.

Bridge handles the previews so fast and it is so much nicer going through with that program, but I'd like to move my workflow to LR4 solely. But hard to with the preview handling being so much slower.

My work helpdesk has recently installed AutoCad 2012 and my co worker and I noticed that at the start up its loads very slowly and often when we double click on a DWG to open (without Autocad being already open) it crashes.

I use separate catalogs per job. Some as small as a few dozen images. (family stuff) Others, as large as 500-600. (engagement and wedding clients)
I am about to start work on a project that will require me to import between 200-300 CAD models created with Solidworks I believe and provided to me in the following formats:
.STEP
.STL
.IGS
.SLDPRT
with most of the files being in .STEP and .SLDPRT format.
What is the best way to import these into maya 2014 OSX?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Maya 2014 SP4 at home, this is a fresh install and was just trying to see if there are any problems with the new SP before I install it at work.
But for some reason, the install went OK, but when I looked under the Render settings there is no MentalRay, and then looking in the Plugins list, there are none there either?
So since I have had 2014 installed grease pencil only worked once and I have not changed anything. It just worked all of a sudden one start up, but prior to that and since it has not worked at all. Everything opens (the menu) and when I add a frame and select a brush that all works, but when using the mouse or Wacom tab it will not paint anything. I even upgraded to the latest drivers for the Wacom, but like I said the mouse wont work either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got Maya 2012 student edition. I created a quick rig with the default maya settings (Skeleton gen, Characterization tool, Character controls).
The position of the rig doesn't update until I let go of the controls. On other rigs the rig updates real time.
1. I click on Maya to open. Icon bounces and loads.
2. Maya loading window appears.
3. Maya finishes loading and 1 minute startup movies appears.
4. Menu bar for Maya appears at top of screen.
5. Nothing else appears.

TROUBLESHOOTING I HAVE TRIED:
1. I reinstalled Maya 2014 with SP3 and reactivated the licensing.
2. Restarted computer several times.
3. Tried opening old scenes.
4. Tried opening new

I'm having a lot of problems trying to load a model I animated using Trax.
First I modeled and rigged a character in Maya and saved it as model.mb.
Next I created an empty file and referenced my model file into in. In the new file I created a character set based on all the rig handles. Next I spent a few hours animating some simple walk cycles and jumps, putting each animation into a separate Trax track. I also created a few character poses.
Last night, everything was working fine. I could select poses and apply them. I could enable single Trax tracks and play them and everything went smoothly. I saved and closed my file.
Today when I opened the file and tried to continue, none of the Trax animations I saved were working. When I try to assume a pose, the rigging moves seemingly random directions. When I enable a Trax clip and play it, the animation is all messed up.
I experimented today with a simple test file. I created a new empty file, referenced in my model, created a character set and a few character poses. Everything was working fine. I could select the bind poses in the visor and assume whatever pose I wanted without error. Then I saved the file and closed it. When I reopened the file and tried to assume the same poses, my character's limbs shot off in all sorts of weird directions.
What's going on? Have I lost my work? How am I supposed to use Trax is if this happens if I simply save, close and reopen Maya?
(The rigging was all nurbs curves with a little bit of Set Driven Keys for the fingers and feet. I also hid and locked attributes of the nurbs I wasn't using. The rigging mostly done using constraints, although I also used straight parenting for some IK handles.)
Just installed Extension for Maya 2014 SP 1.
When I open a fresh scene, load MR and go to Render Settings my Quality, Indirect Lighting and Options tabs are not working. Quality is minimised to the top left and the others are blank.
I've tried the following :
- Uninstalling Mental Core
- deleting all prefs, scripts etc
- deleteUI unifiedRenderGlobalsWindow; buildNewSceneUI;
Attached are what I see in each of the problem tabs and below is all output from the script editor as I open Maya, load mental ray and then click on each tab in turn.

We are just trying out Maya 2014 and seem to have found a little problem that we cannot seem to work around!
If we say have two object and we select one of them, if we then try to move that object along one axis, it moves a very small amount and then selects the other object, but neither move any more, if we unselect the second object and then try to move it again the same thing happens.
We are using a Wacom Tablet as the main pointing device and all three butttons are set right, and we have also tried a mouse and this does the same. We do have a 3Dconnexion Space Pilot Pro also connected but this has been disconnected to see if this caused the issue somehow but without it connected the issues is still aparent.
Works fine on 2013 no issues at all, but the problem just seems to effect the move tool in Maya 2014.
I have checked that soft selection is disabled and it is? maybe I have inadvertedly hit a shortcut sequence to switch something on or off, but cannot find anything else amiss.
